I actually just got back from FFG and won with Howlrunner with swarm tactics, Backstabber, Nightbeast, and 4 academies. There was a huge turnout, and overwhelmingly rebels were played. There were 4 rounds, in which I was 3/1, before cut to an elimination top 8. In the top 8 there was only one other Imp, with a BH + Gunner and something, Howl, Nightbeast also (!), and 2 academies. Overall I was there about 11 hours and there were definitely a couple times when I was frustrated with myself for knocking stuff around and putting myself on a couple of asteroids. They were all really great games and I hope I was fun to play against too. Thanks to everyone, and the amazing staff at the FFG center! Totally spacing on all the names I got in the middle part of the day. The first two games in the tourney were particularly crazy and hilarious, the third I just got some good rolls against a solid Rebel squad, Red, Rookie, Garven, and Dutch with an Ion I think, and in the fourth I got taken apart by 2B2X I think. In the top 8 my first match was actually against 5 gold squadrons, two of which had ions. The second was the Imperial player, Roxanne, and we flew past each other in some hilarious ways, and the final was against Jim who had a really awesome squad with Kyle, Recon, Moldy Crow, a Red Squadron, a Rookie, and a Blue Squadron B-wing with advanced sensors. In that one in particular there were some hard swings with the dice. I think I really benefited a lot from people taking 4-skill pilots to outbid Rookies and Blues, which changed nothing about how they interacted with my squad. Now I need some sleep.

Congrats! There were so many incredibly good players I felt really embarrassed when I made a couple of blunders. My first time at a big event like this and it felt intense. Swarm resilience, a couple of rounds in which the dice exchanged ships, and people buying in to those 4PS pilots really helped me a lot. And that I didn't run into a single Biggs. Definitely think others were more skilled and I was a bit lucky. I wonder what would have happened if some more people had stuck around for the whole thing.

Yep, he meant 4 academy pilots. I ran into them in round 4. His dice were hot, at least against me.
2nd place was a BlueBacca list
3rd place was Turr Phennir and 4 alphas
4th place was mine, with Turr, Mithel, Howlrunner and 3 academies
March 15th Planet Chaos in Fort Atkinson, WI.
Low turnout of just 6 players (conflicts for a lot of people).
1st place was Jake Pichelmeyer with 3 Dagger Squadrons each equipped w/ HLC and FCS.
5 Rebel lists and just 1 Imperial player.
I won the store championship at Sci-Fi City in Orlando this afternoon with 2 Blue Squadrons with Ion Cannons and Fire Control Systems and 2 Gold Squadrons with Ion Cannot Turrets. 14 players total, leaning heavily towards Rebels.

Congratulations on taking first place at the FFG event! I was the guy running 5 Y-wings in the tournament, and while my list matched up well against all the rebel squads, your list (and your excellent flying) destroyed me. Very well played. It was my first time at an event that big with and serious competition, so I was really happy to make it to the top 8. My two losses came to the people who took 1st and 2nd at the event, so I am very pleased with my trusty Y-wings! Congrats again; I hope to play against you again sometime!
Same, that was a really fun game and I was glad to fly against such a unique squad! With one or two more ships in range on the first shooting turn I think it would have gone very differently. I really wanted to get to the ones with turrets early but you denied me that chance until the end and used them to lock down Backstabber and some others nicely. Hope we get to play again!

I went 0-3 in the same tourney. It was my first tourney, and I hopefully learned some good lessons about "Not flying Wedge straight into range 1 of five ships" and "check the difference between left turns and right turns" to put to work on Thursday.

How was the venue? I was in the store the first weekend it was open looking for some X-Wing play while visiting up there, and offered the owner some suggestions for table area, etc. for the tournement.
