Struggles and story resolution: when do stories resolve?

By Lexx, in CoC Rules Discussion

A confusion has risen among our players. We had been playing the game in the following manner:

Once all struggles have been resolved on a story and that story is won, the player who won gets to immediately resolve the story result (thus affecting other story struggles that have not been resolved).

However, looking at the rule book (specifically the Detailed Turn Sequence) It looks like All story struggles are resolved first, THEN the individual stories are completed (skill and whether or not a story is contested). This would mean that individual story results cannot affect struggles on other stories.

Which is the right way? While the rules seem to say the second way, the first way seems like a more meaningful way for stories to resolve.

The active player (the player who's turn it is) chooses the order of the stories.

Stories resolve completely, so all struggles + skillcheck + the effect (if the story is won, and the winner wants to execute it) - then the next story resolves completely and so on.

Then, after all stories have resolved responses can to things that happened through all the stories can be activated.

Story effects, disrupts and forced responses happen at the time moment they are triggered though, and can have an effect on what happens on other stories.
