Hey Covered in Weasels,
Can you explain the overload thing? Is it a trait or a special ability of your pistol, and if so, how does it work?
Furthermore, if I count correctly you used too much actions, but perhaps you combine certain stuff such as dropping the sword and aiming.
Last but not least: Are you suggesting that Erwin picks up the sword and goes into melee? If so, you just went bonka-bonka, but nevertheless, I'll try. Will we be ganging up on it with Cade closing in?
Lasguns, laspistols and long-lases have a special Variable Charge setting rule. Basically, there are three ways to fire a las weapon:
-- Normal charge, which uses the normal weapon profile.
-- Overcharge, which adds +1 damage but consumes two shots worth of ammo. This effectively replaces the special overcharge packs you could buy in DH1.
-- Overload, which adds +2 damage and +2 penetration but consumes four shots worth of ammo. Additionally, the lasgun loses Reliable and gains Unreliable when firing on Overload (so it jams on a 91-100 instead of just on a 100).
It's usually best to use either normal charge or overcharge attacks. Dammek is using overload in this situation because he REALLY wants to kill the (presumably very durable) machine man in as little time as possible.
Dropping a weapon is a free action, so Dammek didn't use too many actions that turn. On the turn where I moved 8m and fired, I was using my class special ability; it lets me move my Full Move distance and make a single shot with a pistol during the move.
Dammek isn't planning to use the sword any time soon, so he tossed it to Erwin so the latter can have a melee weapon. Whether or not you want to close to melee range is your decision, but the option is there.
It's worth noting that Primitive weapons don't work the same way as in DH1; several low-tech weapons have Primitive (X), meaning that you treat any damage roll higher than X as if you rolled an X. A sword actually doesn't have Primitive, so it does 1d10+SB damage with 0 Pen. Non-primitive armor points aren't doubled against primitive weapons anymore.
