Influence

By GauntZero, in Dark Heresy Second Edition Beta

Hy Guyz,

I have some questions about Influence and I hope you can help me out.

When and with which skills can I use influence ?

E.g.:

- when I have Commerce, can I use Commerce (IF) for requisitions (to get +10/+20/+30) ?

If yes - is there ever a situation where I do not use Influence with said skill ?

This is especially relevant for the social interaction skills: commerce, charm, intimidate, and command.

Or do I always just roll IF in cases where I use money/networks ?

The commerce description says it can be used to get a benefit at requisitions...what kind of benefit ?

Our GM simply gave +5 to the requisition roll for every DoS the player had scored on the Commerce test.

Also, I think the "use various characteristics for the same skill" was a 1.0 Beta thing. So you can only use Influence to requisition stuff.

Gaunt: Thanks for pointing this out. The rules for commerce are apparently incomplete. The expanded version is found on pg 272 of the RT corebook:

Commerce and
Ac quisition
In addition to using his dynasty’s raw wealth, an Explorer can
also employ personal Skills to try to improve prices, outwit
traders, and ease mercantile transactions. An Explorer may
use the Commerce Skill (see page 79) to improve his Profit
Factor prior to making an Acquisition Test. This is a contest
of the Explorer’s Commerce Skill versus the Commerce Skill
or Scrutiny Skill of the person or organisation he is trading
with. For each degree the Explorer beats his opponent, he
may increase his Profit Factor by 2 points. For each degree
his opponent beats him, however, he must decrease his Profit
Factor by 2. Both increases and decreases to Profit Factor
only apply to a single Acquisition Test made immediately
with that trader.
This use of Skills works both ways, and when the Explorers
deal with canny merchants, the GM may force them to make
a contest of Commerce Skills even if they don’t want to.
See if that helps.

It does ! Thanks a lot !

Maybe someone should post this in the proofreading section - not everybody might own RT.

See p.110 sidebar "the Emperor provides..."

Aaaaaah ! There it is ! Great ! Thanks !

I hate all this cross-.searching...

Glad to help. As for me still cannot find "An Acolyte can use his Influence to manipulate others into doing his bidding, revealing information, or otherwise offering assistance. Chapter III: Skills contains rules for using Influence to manipulate others". (p. 223)
