Feedback on the range of Talents & Skills

By GauntZero, in Dark Heresy Second Edition Beta

Skills:

> Remembrance & the Specialist Talents should return (as in Beta1)

--> it was a good way to make packages which made sense and lower costs indirectly for too pricey knowledge skills (as they are very specialized)

Talents:

> the Beta1 had too many vehicle-oriented talents; but now they seem ALL to be gone...

As it was said to integrate Vehicle rules more tightly in the Core Rulebook, maybe a handfull of vehicle talents would make sense ?

> "old" talents which I do miss (and I did not really find a replacement for):

- Paranoia (which even is mentioned as a possible starting talent for Hive Worlders ?!?!)

- Armour of contempt (protection against corruption is essential in DH! And the name is cool)

- Decadence (for the underiver and the noble alike)

- a lot of the Techpriest specific talents disappeared (various Rites, Feedback screetch, Electrical succour) --> will they in some shape return (as cybernetic functions ?)

- Iron Discipline / Into the jaws of hell (a good talent for leaders)

- Nerves of steel (would be a good early version of adamantium faith, which could incl. both Pinning and Fear re-rolls)

- Light sleeper (was very famous, at least in my group)

- Orthoproxy (no defense against interrogation and such anymore ?)

- Unremarkable (similar to Face in the Crowd, but not the same at all...)

Maybe a bunch of additional Talents would be good for the game, if 2-3 pages somehow can be spared. Most could be copy-pasted, so it should be no problem ;D

I have a player who wants to create a Medicare themed character and he was looking for talents that helped around the medical area and the current book only lists Superior Chiurgeon. His characters them is more of a doctor first, killer only if needed, so he is rather disappointed about the choice of talents around bring a medic. What I'm not sure of is if DH1 had more Talents to pick from? Their was various levels of Chiurgeon talents.

There's a few in Hammer of the Emperor they could easily port over.

But some absolute classics like Paranoia, Nerves of Steel, Orthoproxy, Iron Discipline, Decandence, Light SLeeper and Armour of Contempt would be very welcome to be back.

Also...it might be better to try to keep the old names of talents, even if effects slightly changed.

This would make it easier to re-use older NPCs in the old DH1 adventures...

couldn't have put it better myself

In the 1.5 Beta of my group, we have some 182 Talents in 15 Talent groups (plus 40 race specific talents, but they wouldn't play here) and we still have a player who thinks that we could have more :P .

With Skills, I wish the 1.0 system back plus Tactics and Trade. Remembrance and Subterfuge were especially welcomed in my group.

I agree.

Talents make the characters differ and stand out a lot.

And some talents are just so much Dark-Heresy-style that they should return.

I am for having more useful talents as well. It would give characters more options and each character (assuming there are many equally useful talents) more variety and uniqueness. Also, high level characters would also still have plenty of talents to choose from instead of being close to having them all.
