X-wing plug-in for Strange Eons

By Hinnyboy, in X-Wing

I am running Strange Eons 3 (3757alpha) on Windows. The rotate arc symbol appears as an open rectangle in my views...

A little note, is it possible to get Attack (Target Lock) and Attack (Focus) added as tags, I can't see any way of getting it to match the font (bold and Small-Caps) without using Photoshop.

Good suggestion! I have added that to the development backlog.

I have no idea why this is, and I have no way of testing this, unfortunately.

Only thing I can offer is to try to uninstall the x-wing plug-in and restart strange eons. Then double click on the downloaded file to install it again (standard windows operations lol).

Do you have an old version of the x-wing symbols font installed on your windows computer? That might interfere.

I will check to see if the symbol font contains any faults but I don't have much spare time right now so it might take a while.

Just wondering if their is a full art option?

I'm also looking for strange aeons plugins for full art for pilots and upgrades.

For full art, you just have to scour the internet. Once you have an image, you can just drag it into Strange Eons. Which is part of the beauty of the application. You can create cards with totally custom artwork. As far as I know, there's no artwork plugin yet. And possibly won't be.

It's the card templates though - I don't know how to alter them, I can put custom artwork in, but for upgrades and pilot cards, the dimensions are the same as the standard cards - I'd like to use it to make cards like those for system open, and the FFG promo / OP prize cards - which have different template / art areas.

I see what you mean now. I've been using Strange Eons for quite some time, but it will only reproduce the standard template with whatever details you wish to add. It doesn't have different layout options. That said, there may be another app out there somewhere that may do it. Photoshop might even be a solution, and once you've created a master template, then the sky's the limit.

The problem is GETTING said master template. I don't really have the photo editing skills to take an existin gsystem open card image and make a master template out of it. Espeically when it comes to things like modifying things like the actions, upgrades, etc available to a given ship.

Yup, this is where I am with it as well - love Strange Eons but would like to make completely custom cards yet don't have the photoshop skills to match my 'vision' and keep hoping there will be something like Strange Eons that allows you to reposition and redesign the card elements.

I'd be happy if someone would just make a template that matches the system open style cards (with the addition of a text box for pilot abilities) instead of the existing cards.

Amazing work man :) Gotta admit, it's a great help.

Is there a way to make extended art cards in this as well ?

Thanks for this amazing tool. I will chime in that if you have the time, a full/extended art option would be awesome. However, as is, this is a fantastic tool and I wanted to thank you for all your efforts.

Totaly agree. Would love a full adt template matvhing the generics from the system open tourneys. And just add a box for the pilot abilities for uniques

Yes. I will try to implement the various alternative art templates eventually. It's in the backlog in a not too far future

Any chance this hits the field this year? :)

I just want to say this plug-in is AWESOME!!! Regardless of the Mouse's will, now, I can bring Starkiller to X-wing! (So far, only as crew, as I haven't quite found myself motivated enough to get a 3D printed Rogue Shadow...)

A little note, is it possible to get Attack (Target Lock) and Attack (Focus) added as tags, I can't see any way of getting it to match the font (bold and Small-Caps) without using Photoshop.

Just a small update to include header tags. Upgrades cards (and pilot cards) can now use the following tags to generate correct headers:

<attack>, <attack-focus>, <attack-lock>, <attack-energy>, <action> and <energy>

These tags are now used in place of the tick-boxes previous versions had, and can be used anywhere in the text field as opposed to just in the beginning.

Xwing.seext

Yes there is a chance you might get this as a Christmas present. No promises though (you know, real life and stuff...).

I'm wondering if it would be feasible to add a "dual card" checkbox, that changes the card back to a duplicate of the front format, and allows you to edit it accordingly...

Dual upgrade cards functionality added:

X-wing.seext

I just added pull requests for the german translation.

I don't know if you want to check it first, so I did a pull request instead of directly merge it in the master branch.

Great work! Thank you for your contribution Mattes! I have merged it to master now.

Has anyone managed to create a plug-in to make Promotional Cards, (the cards with more art then words)

If not, can someone please get on that! thanks in advance!

^ A perfect example of how not to ask for something.

C'mon fella, any X-wing stuff you see that isn't sold by FFG is made by fans who receive nothing but the gratification of creating something for their works. They create their products in their own time and with their own money and resources.

I would suggest that if you were to make a request, it would be much better received (and therefore more likely to be implemented) by giving some useful feedback and requesting the amendments in a more respectable manner. "Get on that" doesn't carry the appropriate connotations one should be using when requesting a volunteered service and comes across as a little disrespectful.

Where do you put this file? I have it in the main Strange Eons folder and it appears to do nothing there.

  • .install4j
  • bin
  • Extended Art Upgrade Templates
  • jre

The only other plugin I can find is the library in the Bin folder. I'll give that a try.

Nope, that didn't work.

I saw there is a plugin tab in the preferences, but that was no help.

well said conandoodle

Zeroinx why don't you just find pictures on ebay or by just doing google search that are of good quality and print them out

that's what i do and they come out fantastic

yes you can't use them in 'official' game, so i use proxy cards until i find the real versions (or win them)

work out a way to get what you want without demanding it like a 2 year old

While you have strange eons installed, just double click the seext file and it will unpack itself in the appropriate way. That's what I have been doing, at least.

Thanks for all your work so far - I've a request that I hope would be quick - is it possible to have an upgrade and pilot card mode that allows us to set an image for the back - instead of having the "missile" upgrade or "rebel" back - to place our own image there in place? Is that something we can already do now?

Damanding like a 2 year old .. C'mon, there's no need for insults. That doesn't get us anywhere.

We all need to be aware that we lose a lot of secondary language in written text. Intonation, sarcasm, inflection, etc which all heighten the recipient's understanding of what you're saying without the speaker needing to explain.

Whilst Zeonix's request was perceived as disrespectful, it may not have been his/her intention, and when read with a differing mindset may have been seen as a joke, a quote, etc. Insulting them for a possible communication breakdown isn't fair.

To more positive stuffs .. Hinnyboy, you and your colleagues have done, and continue to do, a brilliant job with Strange Eons. I myself have used it to create some custom cards and love it. I am always inspired by those humans out there who don't just say "You know what would be cool ..." or "I'm going to ..." but actually get off their freckle, create something and implement a solution .. Doubly so when it's done with zero financial motivation. Well done and Thanks!!

Just started using this tonight and it is AMAZING, great job Hinnyboy.

I've looked through the thread, but may have missed it, but what are the codes for making the maneuver symbols appear on cards? I've worked out the others but can't get those to show up with any combo of words between <>

Maneuvers are in the far left one. <leftbank>, <leftturn>, <leftloop>, <straight> etc.
