How would you stat Juno Eclipse?

By Shakespearian_Soldier, in General Discussion

I'll begin by saying that yes, I know a lot of people dislike The Force Unleashed , and the point of this topic isn't to address its pros/cons, or question whether it'll be used as canon. To each their own on that score, as with many others.

I am interested, however, in seeing how other forum members might stat the Imperial pilot-turned-Rebellion officer Juno Eclipse. I found both her and Starkiller to be interesting characters, even if the plot of the overarching game was quite controversial (that Starkiller founded the Rebellion) and if the latter individual was ridiculously overpowered.

To that effect, I'm tempted to at least include some of the characters from TFU in the game, even if the story behind TFU never happened/isn't considered canon for the campaign. Given the rules material on offer thus far (EotE and AoR beta), I think there's enough material to construct a young Captain Eclipse. Thoughts? Personally I think she'd have access to both the Pilot and (later) the Commodore specialisations.

She would definitely be an Ace, it was her skills as a pilot that got Vader's attention. I can see discipline being a key skill for her.

I apologize for going slightly off topic, but I have been wanting to throw PROXY into one of my star wars games for a long time. I would love to see someone draw up a good stat block for him too.

I don't class it as off topic. :) To be honest, stating most of the characters from TFU would be cool, even Starkiller - provided he was seriously nerfed to more believable levels. However, Galen aside, Juno, Proxy, General Kota... all would be good to include in an alternate (ie. canon) version of the Star Wars universe.

Ace would certainly fit Juno, I agree, with her initial Specialisation being Pilot. Commodore would represent her taking command of a Rebel Alliance frigate around the time of TFU II.

AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH!

AAAHHHHGGHHHHHHHH!

I HATE THE FORCE UNLEASHED!

HATE HATE HATE IT!!!! AAAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

<ahem>

Sorry.

The nice lady in the white coat says I have to take my medicine now...

Good point, carry on :)

Not having gotten TFU II...

Juno I'd put as an Ace Pilot, about 300 earned experience at initial appearance.

Building her ...

Initial: I'd put her at probably Br 2 Ag 3 In 3 Cu 2, Wp 2 Pr 3 with 20 points in talents & skills.

Pilot (S) 2, Gunny 2, Mechanics 1, Astrogation 1 including Galaxy Mapper 2 cool 1

Earned:

110 points gets Grit 1, Tricky Target, Toughened 1, and dedication, raising Cu to 3, and Master Pilot.

35 to add Rapid Recovery 1, Natural Pilot, Defensive driving 1

70 Pilot skill from initial 2 to 4

25 add cool 2, perception 2

15 Gunnery 3

25 Vigilance 2

25 Kn (Warfare) 2

10 Astrogation 2

Human Ace Pilot, 315 earned XP

Br 2 Ag 3 In 3 Cu 3 WP 2 Pr 2

Astrogation 2, Cool 2, Gunnery 3, Knowledge (Warfare) 2, Mechanics 1, Perception 2, Pilot (Space) 4, Vigilance 2

Defensive Driving 1, Galaxy Mapper 2, Grit 1, Master Pilot, Natural Pilot, Rapid Recovery 1, Toughened 1, Tricky Target

(Dedication)

Starkiller I'd put as an Edge Hired Gun - Marauder, with about 300 XP above initial spent at start, and the Exile and Emergent trees opened; his training under Vader pumps him another 70 or so, opening a third force tree.

100 XP spent working to FR+1 on Exile, 75 XP on Emergent to get it's FR+1, giving him a 3 force rating.

he's got Move, Enhance, and Sense open for sure.

And that leaves about 50 spent on the marauder tree and skills - he's actually pretty weak with lightsaber, so I'd say no skill. Brawl, probably raised to a 3. Plus, he's probably got starting stats of Br 3 Ag 4 In 2 Cu 2 WP 3 Cu 2, and 10 obligation increased to pay for it, and just stock skills.

I'm actually less certain how I'd build him accurately - his appearance in my edge game, I didn't need all his stats, so just faked from there, plus 3 Cool, 3 Vigilance, 2 Perception, and Adversary 2.

Nice job with the stats there, aramis. :)

And Maelora... if I offer you a biscuit and some tea, will you promise not to smash up the padded room due to further TFU discussion? :P

I agree with Juno being predominantly an Ace/Pilot, probably with at least 150 adventure XP under her belt. She didn't really do much outside of flying the ship, so she won't need much outside of Piloting (Space) and various Pilot talents.

For Starkiller, seeing as how he was directly trained in the Jedi/Sith ways, I'd say we'd need to wait for Force & Destiny before anyone took a crack at him. Just simply ignore the "over-the-top" stunts from the video game when it comes to his Force abilities. He'd probably have anywhere from 300 to 400 adventure XP to account mostly for the number of Force powers and upgrades (at least the combat portion of Sense and most of Move, with a dash of Enhance for skill check bonuses and Force Leaping) as well as a Force Rating of at least 3. Honestly, he'd be better done as an NPC write-up than a PC one.

To be honest, IF I decide to use Force Unleashed 's storyline for my campaign (a BIG, undecided 'if'), then I'll be modifying a number of events in it to reflect the fact that Starkiller was a more believably powered individual - at a push, he might have been as strong in the Force as Luke. No throwing of Star Destroyers or TIE fighters; no obliterating a sea of Stormtroopers with a leap and a shout; he'd have used stealth to get through the lines of enemies that he encountered, mixed with brutal, guerrilla-style ambushes.

And Vader and the Emperor? MAYBE he managed to injure the former, but against the latter he'd have been defeated. The only great achievement there would have been that he'd have given the Rebels time to flee the Death Star by throwing himself into the path of Sidious' lightening and redirecting it back at the Emperor in one great wave (forcing his own death in the process).

So yeah. Nerfed power levels, re-written scenes and events to account for the fact that Starkiller was a skilled and powerful Sith apprentice... but nothing more than that.

Thanks, man...

Thorazine biscuits taste funny...

Would this be like those fan theories you see where the game/movie/t.v. show is really just the retelling of a kit with an over active imagination?

Not quite sure what you mean, kaosoe, but if you mean "am I going to run the same story with different cosmetic changes", then perhaps - but not as the focus of the campaign. It'd be background material (especially since my game is currently set 1 BBY: Alderaan has not been destroyed yet, and the Rebellion has not yet mounted as big as win as they do when they destroy the Death Star).

The PLAYERS and their characters are the heroes. I just like to incorporate elements from a story that I, personally (and yes, as a recognised minority) enjoyed. I didn't like the execution, of course (Galen was WAY too powerful, as previously mentioned), but the STORY was a good one.

Well, based upon Lucas' comments in the Ep II commentary track, "R2 is the unsung hero of the series." and "I try to le R2 save the day a couple times a movie."

R2 is his Mary Sue. The entire story could be "The Fall and Restoration of the Republic, as told by R2-D2."

R2 is there from just after the start of Ep 1 through the end of Ep VI.

Only Anakin/Vader is as well - and he's dead after VI, so can't be a faithful narrator of the end of the movie. And of course, the scenes without R2 are overblown because he's retelling pretty exactly the exaggerations of others, and weaving a coherent narrative to tell the kiddies just what a hero He himself is...

Sorry, I was just being silly. I like the idea of re-flavoring the game. Although I am a fan of the high-action that TFU gives, I actually really enjoyed the story as well. That's why I also was a dork and read the novelization of the first game after I finished playing the game. You get more than just Galen's point of view, which I can dig.

I always thought R2 was an unsung hero. He deserves a lot of credit.

Oh, I loved it too - for a computer game. But for an RPG, it needed to be reworked to make it more believable, and in-keeping with the Force mechanics provided by SWR.

I've also read TFU II - and really enjoyed it. In fact, one of my favourite Star Wars quotes comes from the second game - the lines are nothing special , but they made me really appreciate and like Starkiller as a character, more so than I had before:

Vader: "Your feelings aren't real."

Galen: "They're real to me !"

Yes, thank you!

Calm, deep breaths....! :)

I love the Force Unleashed... great story, music, visual design, and gameplay! (It also helps to know that Starkiller himself is a swrpger like the rest of us)

Part II was a missed opportunity, though. Why on Earth didn't they do anything with Maris Brood? I thought she escaped in part one for a reason. And then that ending... kind of demands a sequel we're probably never going to see.

Ah well, first world problems. Carry on!

Glad to see I'm not alone in my love of the game. :) Woo!

Read the full novels and comics and unlockable info in the game. Starkiller is stated as being trained in all lightsaber styles and techniques and is the successor to Darth Maul as the best in that type of combat, partially due to Proxy. He didn't defeat the Emperor he lost only to let the Rebellion leaders escape. The ridiculous power was due to the darkside and his redemption, which cost him his life. The good clone's ridiculous powers are partially due to the way he tries to balance light and dark per EU rules on the force aka KOTOR 2. Stats... to stupidly high, there's a reason there's downloadable content where for the darkside he wipes out the heroes of the Rebellion, Luke included.

I know this isn't my normal quality of post but all things considered Starkiller is nothing more than a super-powered plot device meant to move things in a way the story-teller likes. I think that's part of the hate directed at those games. So I think it's best just to keep him hidden in the background. If you notice they don't tell Leia that he's alive at the end of the second game and he has a ridiculous stealth fighter so using him as a backup who avoids the party makes more sense.

Why on Earth didn't they do anything with Maris Brood?

This. I liked Maris quite a bit, I even made a Zabrack Jedi for my SW:SE games solely because I liked her concept.

On an semi-related note, I wonder if the Guard Shoto needs a write-up. They are very much ridiculous, but that's part of the cool factor.

She would need some serious Presence from gorgiousness, despite no training in social skill.

I agree. I've always pictured her as having Presence 3, and perhaps a rank in Charm (and at least two in Discipline) around the time of EOTE's default timeline - keeping in mind, for the sake of this discussion, that all of the characters involved would have their prowess toned down to realistic levels in my campaign. Example: I can't imagine Starkiller having more than 4 ranks in Force Rating - 5, perhaps, at an absolute push. He was not the equal of the Emperor, and I'd argue that he only managed to best Vader due to smart thinking and good fortune (again, in MY game).

One of the few games where I made it to the ending. I don't think I got TFU II, tho.

The best SW game is still KOTOR, in my opinion, but TFU's story was good. :) I also enjoyed number two, though, again, it was too OTT.

'OTT'?

'OTT'?

Over The Top.
