I have a better discussion that is minutely relevant to the main topic of this thread.
Clone Wars: Tartakovsky or Filoni?
Nope. This thread has been commandeered and re-purposed by the crew of the Red Dwarf.

Two simultaneous threads that have been converted from ErikB soapbox to Red Dwarf discussions? This is madness!
Madness?! This is Fiji?
Did someone say curry?
Gotta love dem Dwarfers.
And my Red Dwarf quote of the day:
Rimmer: "That's the metaphorical equivalent of flopping your wedding tackle into a lion's mouth and then flicking his love spuds with a wet towel."
So, in summation, whether the Empire fanboys like it or not the game is going to end up using the Rebels fluff at some point. FFG can fix it now or rush to catch up later. Assuming that something that contradicts what Rebels will do can make it through the LucasDisney approvals process early next year.
Nah, they don't have to skippy. They've not made a mention of midi-chlorians, for example, and that came directly from Lucas; so they don't have to include anything mentioned in Rebels.
Now, back on topic: why is the Empire better than the Rebel Alliance? Aside from being better trained, having cool armour (it's white and shiny, y'all!), and a Death Star?

Filoni.
I enjoy the Tartakovsky cartoons a lot, but they're too tonally different from the films to be 'Star Wars' to me. They're fun... in the way that Tom Waits singing the 'Yub Nub' song might be fun - as a brief novelty only.

Being the legitimately elected government of the galaxy, rather than being a bunch of terrorists and anarchists.
Actually founded for a specific purpose unfortunately ended up in the hands of evil sobs rather than smart, manipulative wretches such as the ones who spent a thousand generations getting away with taking young kids from their families because they seem to possess some otherwise hidden potential they can only bring out of them...
Come to think about it maybe they weren't that evil either...

So, I've always wondered why the galaxy didn't think more badly of the rebels than they did. There's a pretty fine line between the separatists and the alliance. The only difference between them, as far as Joe Six-Pack could tell, is the scale. The Rebels don't have vast swaths of the galaxy defecting from the Empire and huge fleets of ships and armies of battle droids at their command. Other than that, what's the difference between a Grevious and a Mothma (aside from four arms of badass lightsabers)?
Well Mothma wasn't known for going around leading armies to kill lots of people then flee once they faced a foe on anywhere near equal standing, she is after all a politician so in some ways Palpatine really should have been more afraid rather than appearing reclusive once he was declared emperor.
Actually have we ever seen Imperial propaganda supporting the fact that she's as bad if not worse than the Separatists?
Might be an interesting plot for the upcoming Rebels series but to actually include that in an actual game or campaign...
I recall the Phantom Project went as far as calling either the destruction of Alderaan or something else a fake until the Imperials bombed the planet showing their true colours (always a mistake but that's what you get for putting a former pirate in charge).
Still what was COMPNOR doing?
Just brainwashing new recruits instead of showing up the rebels for what they really are as far as the Emperor wanted them to be perceived?
I really need to reread up on that!

Have you considered that it might be because the Empire is a really unpleasant regime to live under?

For the future, could people refrain from quoting him? I have him and his tired repetitive rhetoric on ignore for a reason, ya know!
All the stuff you guys have described is part of the problem with the prequels...

Well, if WotC turned that nonsense that is Force Unleashed into a sourcebook, I could see FFG turning that stuff into a sourcebook.
Here's hoping they write something up for the Thrawn Trilogy.

Stuff like this:-
The latest ForceCast celebrated Star Wars Reads Day with a big slate of interviews.
The Pablo Hidalgo and Leland Chee interview starts at 0:46. They discuss what they’re reading, their first Star Wars reads, how they started at Lucasfilm, the evolution of their jobs and killing Yaddle.
There’s an interesting bit at about the hour part on the Holocron, where Leland admits that the biggest misconception about the Holocron continuity database is that “People overemphasize the importance of the canon levels.” You don’t say.
But for anyone curious about what’s going on with the ‘Story Group,’ the discussion begins at about 1:05. It began as an initiative from Kathleen Kennedy, Pablo says, as it’s her philosophy that “creativity leads.” They declined to out some of the other members – folks who might not be familiar to us yet, apparently.
They won’t say anything about Episode VII, naturally, but Pablo does say that the story group is meant as a “bridge” to the “all-new storytelling going forward.” What’s coming up will be more interconnected than what we’ve seen previously.
As for tie-in literature for the new movies: “That’s definitely part of it,” Leland says. “Everything, every new fiction is going to be part of it,” he says, going on to mention video games and books.

When I met Kennedy at CinemaCon in April, I found her to be supremely poised, charming and confident without a trace of arrogance. She admitted that she's learning a lot from her new colleagues, and about the Star Wars franchise from its fans. She doesn't pretend to be a superfan herself, but knows one thing: story is paramount.
To that end, she's set up a story group composed of Lucasfilm's smartest nerds. The group will coordinate plot points across all future films and TV shows so that they don't clash and do make sense with what we've learned in the past — because no franchise has more people watching more closely for tiny continuity errors than Star Wars does.

*shrug* And if I don't like it when I see it, I'll ignore it and do it my way. I don't have any great attachment to EU material, I'm not under contract, and notwithstanding my generally low opinion of Disney as a corporation, I don't really expect them to be bugging my living room and sending out a hit squad if I don't use their stuff in my game.
Truthfully, I doubt I'll ever see an episode of Rebels anyway. I don't have cable, so I've never seen a minute of Clone Wars , and I've never felt any obsessive need to buy the DVDs.
Here's hoping they write something up for the Thrawn Trilogy.
Good stuff, but certainly in need of some retconning since the prequels.
The only link I have to the Thrawn Trilogy is what I saw in the comic book. Loved it, though.

Never saw the graphic novel version, tho.
