Dave Filoni says Stormtroopers suck

By ErikB, in General Discussion

Nobody is talking about their adventures or characters or campaigns or their feelings about the game.

Sure we are. I don't want to play a terrorist or untrained poorly equipped peasant fighting the high tech professional military of a benevolent state, and they don't want to play the poorly trained, ill equipped thugs of a brutal dictator facing a small but highly professional and motivated rebellion.

You've told me what you're not playing.

Want to tell me what you are playing?

Are you GMing, or playing an AoR character? Tell me about it.

I'm serious. I've deliberately not put you on my ignore list because you've never actually been rude to me personally.

And I'm very pro-Alliance, though the game in which we play diverges from the classic era. It's still an elite Special Forces cell operating behind enemy lines, using their wits and skills to take on a numerically-superior enemy force.

But I'm kinda losing patience, if I'm honest. So, serious offer - post about your game or characters or whatever, or just ignore me, and join my ignore list.

Up to you, my fellow Brit.

(PS - please read the scenarios Desslok is posting. Really good stuff for a stirring, against-the-odds Alliance adventure.... Seriously, dude. Read. Comment. Play.)

He's insulting? Not the words I would use, but whatever. He vision of jedi and rebels has you as an ubermensch battling the unwashed and untrained masses of faceless drones. That is heroic to him. Who am I to judge?

Edited by mouthymerc

We can judge his reactions to anyone who doesn't share his vision, and mock weaknesses of his vision...

Well, he is insulting to me. I am sick and tired of seeing him make uncalled for references to real world tragedies, some of which my family has gone through, to make a point that is short sighted, misguided and plain wrong to begin with. Not to mention him acting all high and mighty whilst doing it.

It's pretty funny. I come back to the boards for the first time in not sure how long.

And the ErikB trolling is still going on.

I would think he would get tired of it, but as pointed out above, it's more attention than he probably normally gets.

/ignore solves all problems.

I don't ignore. I consider everyone equal, even morons like Erik.

Erik, I answered your question as did mouthymerc.

You ignored me and insulted him.

Is it any wonder people started talking about Red Dwarf?

Besides, when the thread was started as an exercise in crapping, it takes a bit of chutzpah to complain that someone else is crapping on it. I guess Our Hero didn't like seeing the focus turn away from him. Can't you just see him jumping up and down and waving for attention?

In other news, what's everyone's favorite Red Dwarf episode? I haven't seen Series 9 or 10, but my vote goes for "Polymorph," hands down.

Oops, sorry...accidental duplicate post.

So, so many good choices. I'd probably have to go with a top, oh lets call it five

5 - Better Than Life

4 - Gunmen Of The Apocalypse

3 - Back To Reality

2- Parallel Universe

1 - Stoke Me A Clipper (what a guy!)

However, let us ask an expert on the subject!

Oh, that was very cool....

Edit - and I love Series 1. I know that puts me in the minority.

I think the RPG captures Stormtroopers pretty close to perfectly. They're Minions. Combat oriented Minions, but Minions none the less. One or two will go down easily against a PC, but in numbers they can pose a decent threat.

Oh, that was very cool....

Edit - and I love Series 1. I know that puts me in the minority.

The only real "problem" I see with Series 1 is the obviously low budget, but that was par for the course for BBC programming for decades.

I have no idea what you're talking about. . . .

Hey stop putting that brontosaurus neck in that poor whatever kind of dinosaur that is's mouth, its clearly not interested in biting! :D

And Jon Pertwee looks on wondering what did they put in his breakfast that morning!

Now all we need is a group of stormtroopers... sorry robo men to walk around the corner see him run over just in time to be stepped on by one of those... whatever they are! :P

Hmm... how frequently in your games do your players impersonate stormtroopers?

After all if Luke and Han could get away with it... :)

None have impersonated... but one did take key parts of the armour and jury-rig it into his own. Unique look resulted.

This is the same PC who bluffed a group of Stormtroopers into diving for cover and letting the group move without fear of being shot at when he tossed a datapad at them and yelled, "Grenade!"

I had a player in the early 90's who painted a suit of Stormtrooper armor with a woodland camo pattern. It allowed me as the evil GM to reduce the quality of the armor slightly due to the previously white armor losing some of its reflective blaster protection.

Quite a bit in our group. Almost frustratingly too often. But one of our PCs is an old clone so it's an obvious ploy for the party to attempt.

Sturn, I think you should have let ErikB take post number 666 on his own topic! :P

And at this point, I think it will take more than moderators to shut this thread down - they'll have to bring in a priest to perform an exorcism... It's the thread that will not die!

I only have one thing to say...

Imagine the zombie with out stretched arms going across the screen...

Grrr....Arrrgh.

So, should we ask ErikB if he prefers Romero shambling zombies, traditional voodoo or the fast moving 'rage' zombies?

I wouldn't.

Just stick with the happy Mutant Enemy zombies.

Representation of Stormtroopers really depends on who writes and/or plays them. I dislike comparing them to the freikorps style paramilitary

No one likes it when their favorite faction looks less than totally awesome, but you have to admit it fits the role they usually play in the fiction pretty well.

Nope, because that's not true. The movies do not support you're point of view. The movies show the Rebels being completely overclassed. They aren't only outnumbered but outgunned by enemies with superior training. The Rebels barely manage to win about half the battles shown in the movies, and according to A New Hope only had one victory before that move. If you don't admit this you are either mistaken, or just plain being dishonest.

Talking at Erik means accepting every "response" you get from him (and I use the term loosely) will cherry-pick irrelevant references, invoke Godwin's Law and above all else, be completely intellectually dishonest.

^this.

Plus, you know, Dave Filoni said zombies suck anyway. They always lose and are there to make theliving look good.

I have a better discussion that is minutely relevant to the main topic of this thread.

Clone Wars: Tartakovsky or Filoni?

Clone Wars: Tartakovsky or Filoni?

Tartakovsky. The man is a genius.
