Dave Filoni says Stormtroopers suck

By ErikB, in General Discussion

Isn't the whole point of playing the Rebels that they have to use their wits, pick their battles and think outside of the box? That they can't afford to throw lives away in a meat grinder the way the Empire can?

Yeah. They have to use their quick wits so they only have to fight outnumbered 3-1 instead of the 50-1 if they attacked head on.

That is not what it said Erick. Quit moving the goal posts. You lost, again.

And before you call me (someone who is Alliance to the core) an 'Imperial sympathiser', let me repeat that's from the introduction to the game.

Should we also clue him in on the fact that in the other roleplaying game licensed to FF by his beloved "LucasDisney" (EoftE) you can actually roll "Supporter of the Empire" as your motivation? Or do you reckon his head might explode then?

You ask that like it would be a bad thing.

but not commandos or even Astartes and Spartans. Competent and fearsome, yet killable enemy.

Nah, they're the Astartes/ Spartans. As you said, all too mortal ...

Representation of Stormtroopers really depends on who writes and/or plays them. I dislike comparing them to the freikorps style paramilitary

No one likes it when their favorite faction looks less than totally awesome, but you have to admit it fits the role they usually play in the fiction pretty well.

Nope, because that's not true. The movies do not support you're point of view. The movies show the Rebels being completely overclassed. They aren't only outnumbered but outgunned by enemies with superior training. The Rebels barely manage to win about half the battles shown in the movies, and according to A New Hope only had one victory before that move. If you don't admit this you are either mistaken, or just plain being dishonest.

So why do people want to play the Rebels, and if they don't why are FFG making a game where you play Rebels? Should they abandon AoR and start working on a game where you play as badass stormtroopers?

You misinterpret people again and again. Saying the rebels are outclassed, outgunned and have inferior training does not mean people do not want to play rebels. Therefore your other question is meaningless and pointless.

People want to play rebels for all the reasons they've already stated. If you cannot understand this, learn to read.

Well I started a thread to ask why people wanted to played Rebels even if they are outclassed outgunned and have inferior training, and all the people who seem most keen on the Rebels being outclassed, outgunned and having inferior training started threadcrapping about Red Dwarf.

Suspicious, don't you think?

There are roleplayers who like to play something other than Mary Sues. But I heard they are being brainwashed by COMPNOR :P

Erik, I answered your question as did mouthymerc.

You ignored me and insulted him.

Is it any wonder people started talking about Red Dwarf?

Well, that and we don't need four threads on the same goddamned topic.

You, Erik, are the king of whiny-arsed threadcrapping. So do as you preach, hypocrit.

The fact that the first does not automatically lead to the second, making that a false dichotomy. You brought up this notion of players wanting to play the most powerful side out of thin air, making it a strawman as well.

Seriously why are you so surprised people are upset with you when you are ramming you're opinions down every ones throats, moving the goalposts everytime someone makes a point, if you don't downright ignore it, making the entire boards about you're obssession with any one saying anything good about the Imperials, bringing up comparisons to the real world, even with multiple posters have told you to stop, and other assorted acts of jerkishness?

Edit: I knew some one would make my point for me even more effectively.

Though there is also the fact that you seem to take dissenting opinions as a personal attack.

It's very sad that there's 33 pages of nonsense on this thread alone - sometimes entertaining nonsense, but hardly helpful to the cause of anyone wanting an insight into the excellent AoR game.

Nobody is talking about their adventures or characters or campaigns or their feelings about the game.

We spend all our time listening to ErikB's court jester act, to his bizarre non-sequiturs and ridiculous non-responses. And his increasingly ludicrous evasions as to why he's not playing the games.

I know we need an 'anything goes' thread but I can't help feel this has become self-defeating. When I read Chortles' replies on here, I feel my IQ actually going up. When I read this thread, I feel it diminishing, like Erik's idiocy (or trolling, not sure which) is infectious.

This car-crash of a thread is disturbingly addictive. I kinda wish the mods would put it out of its misery.

I concur. Perhaps we should start discussing AoR scenarios and the like. :)

I'm on the ignore train now. Full steam ahead. Now that I don't see his threads, I'm seeing how people continue to beat on the troll without any fire weapons. It's pointless. If you believe he isn't a troll, he obviously isn't going to change his opinion. If you report him, nothing really happens. Even when he was banned, he still returned. So, we as forum members are left with only one option (if we don't want to continue the pointless dance). Completely ignore him so we can have civil fan discussions.

* ahem *

Admittedly I believe that in the absence of an actually released Age of Rebellion , the action that you describe is going on almost entirely in the EotE forum and subforums.

I can't imagine the guy gets anywhere near this much attention in real life. It's hog-heaven here for Erikb, and it's 'cause we're all making it so. I've had him on ignore for about a month now, but I've been reading everyone else's posts, because the rest of you are cool.

But yeah, it's really high-time we all turn away, and leave Erikb to jump up and down screaming by himself.

[EDIT: Happy 666 posts to me! Ladies and Gentlemen... to evil! :D ]

Aha! I'll go over there, then!

Sorry, I was so mesmerised by Erik's blithering nonsense I forgot I actually played the game! :) Thanks!

By the way, I should point out that Ultimate Adversaries (SWd20 Revised, 2004) is absolutely full of EotE-style NPCs (by which I mean " could be built as a PC using the EotE careers "), the majority of them even, and only a few of them are " if a PC, would have to be statted with AoR or FaD careers ".

Nobody is talking about their adventures or characters or campaigns or their feelings about the game.

Sure we are. I don't want to play a terrorist or untrained poorly equipped peasant fighting the high tech professional military of a benevolent state, and they don't want to play the poorly trained, ill equipped thugs of a brutal dictator facing a small but highly professional and motivated rebellion.

LOL, professional.

Lando: "You know, I can fly a ship."

Alliance High Command: "Congratulations, General Calrissian, you're leading the fighter assault on the Death Star."

This is pretty much the background of one of our PCs, a well-meaning rich kid who used her family connections to get a swift promotion to an elite Special Forces cell, against the advice of pretty much everyone.

Hilarity (and multiple casualties) ensues.

Though she's more 'Pink Five' than Lando...
