Dave Filoni says Stormtroopers suck

By ErikB, in General Discussion

As ever, you can do whatever you want with your fanfic.

It's not so much squabble as ErikB is an internet troll of the sort that 4chan's /b/ would be proud of. He's rarely (if ever) shown an actual interest in intelligent and/or informed discussion, and has thread-crapped enough times to get several threads that were quite informative closed or derailed so badly that the folks who were involved in the discussion simply gave up on the subject.

If you do manage to get an actual straight answer, I'll be surprised, given the content of his posts can be summed up as "spew nonsense and stir up the pot while ignoring what anyone else says." He did the same sort of thing when he posted under the handle of AlumninumWolf, even getting banned and his account deleted for highly inappropriate posts he made.

Then again, thread OPs of this sort are is I believe why that a bunch of us do instead just talking up other stuff Star Wars -related, i.e. stormtroopers in general instead of one guy's line in the course of promoting an as-yet unaired cartoon, so that at least someone can get something useful out of the thread before the lock.

Admittedly I wonder what exactly those last posts as AluminumWolf were, considering that ErikB has already threatened board members while using the ErikB handle anyway .

P.S. On fairy tales .

Must have hit pretty close to the mark to get them all riled up like that.

It would seem to me that FFG are in a fine position to ask how they intend to portray Stormtroopers in Rebels and the wider franchise going forwards.

Yep.

Finding opposition does not mean you were right to begin with.

It more often means you were wrong and people are calling you on it.

So is everyone happy if FFG goes to Lucas Licencing to ask if this information is accurate and if they should do anything with it?

Like screaming at a wall....

How do you know they haven't? For all you know, or anyone else for that matter, the game could be representing the Star Wars universe just as Disney/Lucas wants it. How disappointed are you going to be when that happens? Or when they release an Imperial book that details running Imperial campaigns? Or a Sith book?

mouthymerc nailed it in two:

How do you know they haven't? For all you know, or anyone else for that matter

Especially system Star Wars Edge of the Empire Age of Rebellion

To say nothing of "why there's no PDF versions of EotE/AoR"...

P.S. "Or a Sith book ", eh?

It saddens me that this is the most active "discussion" for Age of Rebellion.

Ehhh, this one's the closest to a "general" thread at this point it seems? Heck, there's some value that some GMs can get out of it as a result of its repurposed existence as an ideas exchange, complete with a poster posting actual G-canon of what actually happened with Order 66.

Disclosure : I swear that I am not posting here just for Maelora's praise. ;)

All gamers care about is that their side gets the coolest toys.

It saddens me that this is the most active "discussion" for Age of Rebellion.

It is especially dispiriting that this whole thread isn't about the game at all, and ErikB isn't even playing AoR.

He doesn't seem to be into RPGs, but some kind of bizarre fanboy (or a clever troll pretending to be one) who trawls through SW boards trying to impose some kind of peculiar pro-Alliance 'canon'.

This in a make-believe game where we make stuff up, in a game that's steered clear of a specific canon and tells us straight we can ignore canon if we wish.

And all this over a cartoon that isn't out and most of us won't even watch. Why should 'Rebels' have any more impact on FFG than 'Droids' or 'Ewoks'?

Actually, at this point, I just give up.

Always happy to bask in your informed comments!

But srlsly, I have learned something from this bizarre thread.

Though at this point, ErikB is making me bang my head against a wall...

And are you a role-player, Erik?

Are you playing the games? (I am. Just came back from a four day session in York. It was a blast.)

If not, why not?

C'mon, tell us about your cool characters or campaigns. Seriously.

* Although to be quite honest Kenobi and Razor's Edge are the by-far standouts... that, and the Star Wars ongoing comic by Dark Horse if going outside of novels. Again, ironically, this is coming from a Zahn non-fan despite his high regard among other fans.

P.S. "Or a Sith book ", eh?

I have the book, if not the fancy box. I picked up the The Jedi Path and Book of the Sith a while ago. Fun reads.

Why is it so important for you to make them see that ErikB? Just an honest question.

Because its true? If FFG doesn't get its licence terminated by Lucasdisney the game is going to end up integrating Rebels information at some point. And I think Rebels is likely to draw a lot of people to the game so I think it behoves FFG to make sure the RPG will appeal to such people.

Plus the sooner people realise that cheering for the Empire is a losing proposition and defect to the winning side the sooner we can all have fun punching Space Nazis.

Please leave me out of your squabble or whatever it is. I asked a straight question to ErikB, who if he wants will answer.

On another note, while skimming this thread out of curiosity (and as entertainment) I've found many interesting perspectives on Storm Troopers. I am not entirely sure it was worth it but there's that.

Good luck everyone!

"Space British Empire vs. indigenous colonized peoples".

There, fixed that for you.

With all due respect - if you truly believe he is a troll you are kind of stupid for continuing to feed him. There is, and have always been, only one way to deal with an internet troll.

Yeah, it's called ignoring the jackass. Which is what I do, and encourage others to do. If you actually have indeed read this thread, then you'll see that he goes out of his way to egg people, and other posters keep taking the bait.

And the "stupid" remark was completely uncalled for as I've made no such accusations against you, much less have I responded to any of ErikB's posts in this thread or any other part of the forum.

"Space British Empire vs. indigenous colonized peoples".

If you want to play the jolly jack tars of the heroic British Star Empire cruising the galaxy bringing civilisation to the wogs with bayonet and maxim gun, I suggest Space 1889. Or Marcus Rowlands Log of the Astronef:

From his excellent Forgotten Futures series of Scientific Romance RPGs.

The best thing you will get for free on the internet.

But that ain't Star Wars.

For that matter, I very much enjoy David Drake's (he of Hammer's Slammers) RCN/Lt. Leary series of books:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCN_Series

More or less Patrick O'brians Aubrey/Maturin in Space. The ships are less cool than in Weber's Honor Harrington books, but the writing is way, way better.

York as in the original, in the UK. Maelora is a glorious subject of Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II, just as I am

Oh!

Maelora , you've got a guy here who would clearly like to hook up, so the ball is in your court. One way or another, this thread couldn't get any more off-base, so I'll extend you (and everyone) a hearty salutation from Canada, and continue on my way!

Incidentally, Wedge Antilles is currently appearing in the BBC police comedy-drama show New Tricks.

I wonder if they will get him back for Ep VII. I think he still looks sprightly enough to jump in an X-Wing.
