Curious questions about Necrodermis And necrons

By Ansalagon, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

So... The living Metal of the Necrons.. I have have some questions, and have not been able to find any answers to... and also some general questions... I am that there has been quite a lot of change from the Old C'tan slaves Necrons to the newer more freewilled Necrons... But in case there has been changes from from the old codex to the new, i would like to hear both the old and new discribtion... Also i am unsure wether to post this as it has questions about rules, but also largely relevant for the campaign setting.....

1) First of all "what is it" i have heard that is billions of small "nano robots"... But i read (in Dead Men Walking) that if exposed too very high temprature (read hit by heavy melta weapons) it becomes liquid... However The reformed from a liquid silvery pool into a full Necron due to the lords Ressurection orb.. I have also from ertain reading gotten this idea that the Necrons are not Machines per say... But some something else entirely... The Necrodermis like more of a shell around this green energy .

While in Hammer and Anvil they are discribed as more actual machines, using data traference, understadning binary, having fragile components and such...

Am i wrong here? what are the Necrodermis exactly?

2) How are Necrons powered? or Where do they get energy from?

3) how does Necrodermis react to water? Does it float or sink? Can Necrons swim?

4) How does Necron do in Zero gravity? i imagine the skimmers doing just fine, but what about the soldiers?

5) Does the Necrons have the equvilant of Titans?

6) How do you think the Necrons percieve the world? Do the see it as we do or some other way? (any ideas to how they see the world would be VERY helpful :) )

7) Does the Necrons have a "soul". Various sources seems to suggest otherwise, but did they have one when they were just the Necrontyr? Has it been converted to something else, like that green glow Necrons have?

8) what would happen to the C'tan in case all life died? would the starve and die?

9) I read in black crusade that (at least some) Necron weapons destory souls! Thoughs on this?

10) what is know about the Necrontyr as a race? I read the codex, and i have yet to find anything on how they look/ anything in general them race, other than the fact that their sun was nasty, that they seemed quite spiteful and that they had extremely advanced tech,,,

My thoughts on the above:

1) I would say it's more like liquid metal. There's something I read in their old 3rd ed codex that spoke of a Callidus Assassin that used a weapon made of the same substance the necrodermis is made of. They struck a deceiver masquerading as an Imperial governor however the blade simply was absorbed back into the C'Tan. That acts more a liquid metal based on that, besides with Nano bots, this is already covered by mini scarabs to enact self repair.

2) Not sure on that. Some seem to say that they have some sophisticated power matrix built in but the problem is that most of them phase out before the Imperium can pick over the bits to find out :)

3) Would argue that water should be fine. Some of the most ruthless killing machines in the galaxy and stopped by a small body of water or, even worse, rust?! Presumably since they are just metallic skeletons they are unlikely to be buoyant and simply walk along the bottom of the water source akin to the scene in Pirates of the Caribbean. Their Skimmers meanwhile, probably would be fine to pass over water.

4) Necrons in Zero gravity, since some of their ships can make use of anti-grav technology, I would imagine there are ways to implement the reverse. Perhaps mag technology in their own feet similar to an Astartes. It seems odd that again, fairly advanced race of killing machines get outwit by a lack of gravity!

5) Necrons don't really have titans. If you look at the forge world site for Necrons, they mostly have large vehicles or static defence pylons. Closest there is was that centipede type thing and even thats just a monstrous creature. They do have some big and nasty ships and vehicles though...

6) Necron motives, while I havent read all of the 5th Ed Codex, I get the impression it changes the basic necron motivation from the old 3rd ed of "Kill everything, purge" like mindless robots into machines that are establishing empires and dynasties. Correct me if I'm wrong on that...

7) Presumably they did but if anything this is just a necron brain/mind locked up in a metal skeleton. A soul would arguably weaken that desire to wipe out all life.

8) IIRC the C'tan were Star Gods originally, beings that consumed stars to survive and feed. So if all life died presumably they would not care and keep going with loads of other stars. The Imprisoned ones though are in shards. I read somewhere that they are basically held in some sophisticated tech that if they turn or need to, they can be whisked back to stasis and imprisonment.

And those are all my thoughts. Cant find the bit on soul wrecking weapons and dont know enough of Necrontyr...the above comments though are the rambles of myself and are just my perception on it and may be wrong.
