Those trees are too restrictive

By GauntZero, in Game Mechanics

Although I like the idea of trees in general, I currently feel, like they are just a more restrictive way of prerequisites at the moment.

This is true for talents and for psychic powers.

Im mean, why do I need to learn Nimble before I am able to snap fire ?

Why do I need Catfall to Sprint ?

Why do I need Overwatch before I can learn anything else from the ranged tree ??

And many more that feel very restrictive.

I would prefer it, if the trees would be less restrictive and would enable the players to make more side-moves/cross-moves.

Or if the trees disappear in general and there is a direct pre-requisite at the talent description, if the talent really needs one.

I could even think about a rule that you need at least 1 "Tier 1 - 200 XP" talent before you can get a "Tier 2 - 400 XP" talent and so on.

But please, change something in this computer-gamey-trees...

I fully agree that trees are not the way for PnP games and have been avoiding a "why does this feel like a computer game?" rant only by telling myself noone wants to hear it.

I would even be ok with it, if only it would be broader and more flexible.

Maybe having some more cross lines where you can move.

At the current shape, I feel very forced to beeline a path to get a certain result. And characters will a lot look like the same :(

Not good at all.
