Except Ties, as far as I can tell, don't have Engine Glow.. I did wonder so I looked it up as I was painting... I should however put on the lights.

Those two red dots between the cockpit and the wings are the engine glow. Twin Ion Engines. The tutorial has you painting the back window/ rear hatch.

Yeah that video is really useful. Does show you how a Tie is laid out really well. I was a bit confused on the first watch as I had skipped the bit where it had the zoom in on Tie/Ln pilot showing what was happening under the mask, so it just looked like he was flying a Tie/Ln with no life support.. but on second watching that was a cool way of doing it.

Done a few alterations to my Interceptors, Added the Twin Ion Engine Glow and altered the top hatch so it has the windows correctly set up. Before painting the Tie/Ln that bit didn't make as much sense.

There is no real easy way to paint them like this.. It really isn't a specialist technique, it's far more lots of layers. I started off with a mix of Fountation grey, light grey and black to act as a primer. Then Dry brushed up with about 4 progressively lighter layers (each time using lighter brush strokes and less paint), I followed this with a light wash of black. This was my undercoat.

At this point I gave them a spray of gloss varnish, Paint has a tendency to come of the plastic while you handle them to work, the gloss varnish stops this happening.

After that was dry I highlighted up the panels individually with about 4-5 layers progressively getting lighter till I was just putting a thin line on the top edge (note I generally feather my layers so they blend into the ones below). Then a light wash, followed by a final highlight along the edge.

The Tie panels were painted black, then had a reasonable heavy dry brush of a black/brass/silver mix. then given a heavy wash with black twice. Then a layer of black feathered in from the edges.

Lastly I added chips and weathering to the vanes, decals etc.

So not fast but I'm quite happy how they turned out.

I don't think that's the engine...it's the hole that a giant screwdriver twists to open the wing-arms and to do repairs or replace the wings. The red dots in the back are the engines, as well as the red dots in the front are the blasters.

Oh man, please tell me how you did that. Holy crap dude, I've been wanting to RGI one of the Interceptors forever now, I've gotta' know. That is amazing.

OK it was a touch fiddly to do and you need to have quite a bit of patience I think it took the best part of a week with waiting times, I generally did one section then left it to dry overnight.

1. cut 4 wing shapes out of thin plasticard.
2. made up some greenstuff and put a thin coating of it onto one side of each of the wings wing. using a wet finger to smooth it out. You need to make sure it's as thin and flat as possible.
3. Leave to dry for a couple of hours
4. Use a sharp scalpel to cut any excess away from the edge.
5. Cut the inside away and use the scalpel to lift out the excess green stuff.
6. If necessary use a clay shaper to tidy up the green stuff on the edge (eg if it's lifted at all)
7. Leave to dry over night.
8. Use the side of a knife to scrape away at the underside to thin down the plasticard, so the wing doesn't get too thick.
9. Repeat 2-7 on the other side of the Wing
10. Put two wings next to each other (so they form a distorted Hexagon.)
11. Place a blob of green stuff where the bracket is on the inside of the wing.
12. Form it into a hexagon.
13. Leave to dry for an hour or so, then use a pin to add interior lines and a scalpel down the center of the pair of wings to seperate them.
14. Leave to dry overnight
15. Repeat 10-14 for the other pair of wings, then flip over and do the other sides.
16. Use a scalpel on the original model to remove the bit where it sticks out a bit where the wing bends, to give you a flat area to mount the new wings.
17. Glue all 4 wings in place
18. cut 4 thin plasticard triangles to act as brackets. they need to be slightly angled on the thin side to fix correctly.
19. glue brackets on between the original wing edge and the trapezium bracket on the new wings.
20. Repaint model.

Well that's 3 TIE/Ln done... YAY.... I almost went mad painting them.... Then as soon as I finished I started another 2... so maybe I did go mad.

Will try to get some photos up when it get light enough that I can use sunlight.

Finished 3 of the god **** TIE/Ln... I'm not going slightly mad painting tiny panels.. Oh no.... What will I do?

Also added the engine glow to the Interceptors and changed the top hatch so the windows are in the correct layout.

I have taken the opportunity to take photos of all the stuff I have painted so far. Which I'm glad of as this batch of photos came out really nice

I must be not quite compos mente as I've already started working on the next 2 eyeballs. I think I'm going to do 1 more in the standard color scheme so I can run the whole of black wing when I get a X1 for Vader, and then paint the last one as a Veteran (think the Red Baron or Snoopy), I'm thinking of painting the Imperial Symbol in white onto the solar vanes and painting the cockpit are and some of the other bits pure white
