Another Character Generator

I can see why people would think that was an invalid image.

I can see why people would think that was an invalid image.

I did at first too, but once I figured out I thought "genius!" So now I've started putting the setbacks inside parentheses (ss) so I know better what to do with them :-D

Ok so on this sheet it means remove 2 setback dice?

Edited by DravinClaw

Yeah, it's remove setback. I did have them with a red X, but that REALLY looked like an invalid image icon :)

I think that it may just seem unclear because it's not part of the standard icons used in the rulebooks. I think it's pretty easy to understand once you know what it means.

Not to be pushy, but any thoughts on moving the CacheDB.sdf file to some place other that the Data folder (I posted about this a few pages back)?

If you are sharing the Data folder you can run into some issues when more than one person is using the application at the same time. Also, because that file changes frequently, it is constantly getting synced. If possible, I would like to see that file some where in the local temp space.

I mention it again, as Sahugani had an issue that was likely down to this recently as well.

Thanks again for the excellent utility!

Found a glitch on the slicer tree. When the Natural Programmer talent is purchased the Bypass Security next to it lights up and is purchasable even though they are not directly connected.

Hi Ogg

I created a new species using your Data Editor tool but there's some little trouble with it :

- I wanted to add Feral Strength 2 as species ability; I firstly created my species with Feral Strength 1, saved the data and it worked ; I then wanted to upgrade it at 2, saved the data once again but the tool never took it into account : the ability remains at 1

- in the same way, I chose Resilience 1 as species skill, saved the data, etc... ; as expected the skill appears in the species description under the Character Generator tool but when I finally decided to remove it it still keeps on appearing despite all my efforts ; when I open my species with the Data Editof the box is always checked...

I'll look into the issues tonight. And Flyynt, I didn't ignore you :) it'll be moved in the next release.

First off, bravo. This applcation is awesome. I havent found any bugs as of yet. Keep up the good work.

After looking at the species add dialog, I'm not sure how anything was working correctly :) It's all fixed now.

However... remember that when you use a spin control (the up/down numeric control) from within a grid, after changing the value, click somewhere OFF of the control to make the grid actually change the value. If you just click the up/down button, then click "Update", the values may not change the way you expect them to.

I was replying from my phone before, but yes, I've already made this exact change. And, by the way, the suggestion was pure brilliance :) I was noticing this exact problem and was trying to think of ways to avoid it, and it didn't even occur to me to just keep the cache DB local and out of the data folder! Sometimes, the best and most simplest solutions are the most elusive.

In the next release, the cache file will be kept within the default data folder location, under "Cache". That is, "C:\Users\JoeBlow\AppData\Roaming\SWCharGen\Cache", no matter what your actual data folder location is set to.

Outstanding! Thanks so much for this.

I am nothing if not simple. ;)

BTW, I did not feel that you were ignoring me, I just know that there are sometimes a lot of posts flying through here and I expect that it is sometimes difficult to keep up with everything. You have been an exemplar of responsiveness!

Thanks again!

I have been remiss in my expressions of gratitude for the last couple of donators. Anthony and Jason, thank you VERY MUCH for your donations! I very much appreciate them :)

BTW i have not been on in a few weeks but wanted to say thank OggDude I am now up and running once again

New release! Fixed a bunch of little things, added imports for "Crates of Krayts" from the old EotE beta book, and "Operation: Shadowpoint" from the AoR Beginner Game, plus some minor new features, including group support for Contribution Rank (in the GM Tools).

This will probably be the last pre-F&D release. Since F&D has a lot of new stuff, including new mechanics, it'll probably be awhile until I release 1.3, which will support F&D beta.

Release 1.2.1.0
New/Changed Data:
  • The "Sleight of Mind" talent was set as unranked. It is now properly set as ranked.
  • Commodore spec had some incorrect connecting lines. This has been fixed.
  • Slicer spec had an incorrect connecting line. This has been fixed.
  • Added an import for the "Crates of Krayts" adventure found in the Edge of the Empire Beta Rulebook. This indcludes adversaries and encounters for the adventure.
  • Added an import for the "Operation: Shadowpoint" bonus adventure for use with the Age of Rebellion Beginner Game. This indcludes adversaries, encounters, and custom vehicles for the adventure.
  • The Foresee Force power was incorrect based on the release version of Age of Rebellion Core Rulebook. It is now up-to-date.
New Features and Enhancements:
  • Added support for Contribution Rank to groups. Groups will now keep track of Contribution Rank. This value can be changed directly, or when duty is high enough, you can click on the "Advance" button. This will reset all current duty from the group and all members and advance the rank appropriately.
  • Added contribution rank and group credits to the group sheet.
  • The cache file is now stored in its own location, based on the currently-logged in user. It is no longer in the data folder. This should help eliminate occasional errors when multiple users are accessing the same data (such as when you're using cloud storage for your data folder).
  • Added a cybernetics rank column for both characteristics and skills in the character generator.
  • Added "Force Rating" to the Force Power pane.
  • Force powers have a "minimum rating" setting to support future Force powers that might require a Force rating higher than one. Unfortunately, I wasn't supporting this setting and you always saw all Force powers. You will now only see acceptable Force powers. If your Force rating drops too low for a high-ranking Force power, it will be removed.
  • In the species pane, if a species skill was flagged as being a career skill, this fact was not noted in the species description panel. It will now be displayed.
Bug Fixes:
  • Forgot to include the new CoreSources.xml data file. This could cause issues with sources not being available.
  • The new import directories weren't being added properly to the app directory. They should now be added to the correct location.
  • Specific motivations were causing problems when all sources had been selected. Motivations will now work properly.
  • Sources would have issues if all sources were selected. Selecting all sources should now work properly.
  • When adding a talent to adversaries that included a skill choice, the GM Tools would get an exception. This feature will now work properly.
  • When transfering credits or equipment within a group, the transfer was supposed to save both the group and the character, vehicle, etc., being transferred to. However, the group itself was not being saved properly. It will now save as it should.
  • Zero-sized obligation and duty will no longer show up in the group sheet.
  • If a skill got ranks from cybernetics twice, an invalid value could be set for the purchase dropdown, causing an error. This will no longer happen.
  • The Add/Modify Species dialog in the Data Editor had issues dealing with both skills and talents, both adding and removing them. These features should now work properly.

We're you able to get force and destiny? We're you able to get far horizons?

Yes and no. I'll have to check with my FLGS for the latter, but I do have access to the F&D beta PDF. It'll take awhile to add all of the new goodies. FH will be part of the next F&D release.

Ogg your drop box manual install has malware

So. . .. next Monday then?

If I wanted to enter the info for Force and Destiny myself, how would I go about creating a separate source so I could easily delete it when you get around to entering the stuff yourself Ogg?

My computer detected a Malware in the link to the Character Generator on the first post. In your signature, it's fine, but the post link is bad juju.

As a GM all I can say is this is a awesome tool! Keep up the great work....

There's no malware that I'm aware of. More than likely, it doesn't like the shortened bitly link. A lot of weird software has redirects in their URL to confuse people. I use bitly just to track downloads. Speaking of which, the original ZIP file on DropBox has been downloaded 31,148 times since last August :)

To be sure, just run a virus scan on the downloaded ZIP file. If you actually detect something, please let me know.

When adding them in the Data Editor, first create a new data set, like "My Force and Destiny". Then select the data set, and make all changes to it. That way, when the new version comes out, all you have to do is remove the data set and it's all gone.
