Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

One thing I'm running into is I can't link more of the original weapon. For example, the YT-1300 has one medium laser cannon on the ships dorsal and ventral ends. I can't get it to add a second one to get the link attribute and I can remove the original to add linked medium laser cannons. My apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I didn't feel like going through 75 pages. :(

Edit: Also the weapon arc image seems not to show the ventral arc arrow when you mod any ventral weapons.

Yeah, we just talked about both of those issues :) I was removing the current weapon from the list because I didn't think about someone wanting to just up the link value. The next release won't do this. Also, the ventral arc wasn't being updated. That'll be fixed as well.

Hey Oggy you should add force dice to rolls. For example I have enhance base force power which allows you to add a force die to coordination and spend it to add a success or advantage to your roll.

I'll look into this. Should be simple enough, but I need to look at the descriptions. If force dice are used to add different things, I may need to differentiate between the uses.

Oggy,

I would like to make an enhancement request to the Data Editor. Would it be possible to add a Footer tag, like the header tags, but make it a smaller font and right justified. Or is there already a way to do this?

Are you talking about descriptions?

Hi Oggy

Yes in the descriptions area. You can do [H4] [h4] for example to make a header. Just thought something to have a footer which is smaller font and left justified.

I notice that not a lot of people are using the web install. Let me extol its virtues for a bit:

--snip--

In case anyone's curious, the original DropBox ZIP file download gets about 100 or so clicks a day, whereas the web install gets maybe 10. Not a lot of people know about the Google Drive links yet, so they get about 15 and 8 clicks a day.

The original link has gotten close to 18,000 clicks since I first put it up back in August 2013.

Hey OggDude,

First off fantastic application! I can’t say that enough.

Second, about the not using the Web version. It could be a case of being web-Neanderthals like me

In the past I was quite the computer techie and not only built my own computers but was a real badass when it came to building up a punch card query deck or compiling data reports from multiple data tape archive tapes.

But I was an electronic hardware man by trade and when the PC came out I concentrated on avionics and not the ‘new’ programing methods. I am actually PDG with word processing and other office related software, adobe and a few cartography programs, and I can manage my own PC well enough and have wiped and reloaded it enough times, but I am definably not going to write anything like an app or program.

So that said, the reason why I have only used the Manual version is this.

How I understand it….

Manual version: Installs to my computer at a specific location. I can export, I can import, I can update. Woot! Works great!

Web version: Installs blah blah yadda yadda blah blah blah automatic blah blah yadda blah drop box blah blah yadda yadda blah …..

Allrighty then manual it is……. :P

Thanks, I really like this character generator. :)

Probably because the dropbox link is right at the top of the very first post, The web install link is buried down in your signature.

You can try some of these if you want:

[H1][H2][H3][H4] [L][T][W][OP][iN]

Those are the main styles that I use in the apps.

Yeah, I hear you. I started out with MSDOS in the 80's, so I'm used to doing things by hand. People that started using computers in the Windows age have panic attacks when they need to create directories and copy files :) They prefer one-click installs. I just figured there'd be more of those type of people wanting the web install than there would be of people like us who are comfortable with the file system.

Oh well, they're both available :)

Thanks, I really like this character generator. :)

True. I should probably edit the first post to include the new links.

This last release seems pretty stable. I've been working on a few things, but nothing major. Here's what I have so far:

  • The encumbrance label in the equipment screen was still not updating all the time. It should now update whenever anything is done to a character.
  • When upgrading a vehicle weapon, the current weapon was removed from the list. However, there may be cases where you want to keep the same weapon, but just change the link quality. So, the current weapon is no longer removed from the list.
  • For adversary stat blocks, the name label's font size will now scale so that the entire name will be displayed.
  • When upgrading vehicle weapons, the weapon would not keep a selected ventral arc. It will now.
  • Added force die support for skills. If a force ability allows you to use your force rating to enhance skills, a force die will be included with the skill.
  • The Enhance force power had some incorrect lines connecting the force abilities. It should now be properly connected.

If you see anything else that needs fixing, please let me know.

Sorry for the stream of posts. I got another nasty-gram from DropBox saying that my public downloads have been suspended again. Please use the Google Drive links until this clears up.

Is there a way to tell if your web install is pulling from drop box or google?

Nevermind found it. If you highlight the install in programs and features it tells you.

Maybe include in the launcher a saying where the install is coming from.

Yeah, one more thing that needs fixing, AoR book says the E-11S Sniper Rifle is a restricted weapon.

- There should be at least a warning, that the cybernetics-limit is exceeded...

(Living beings can use as many implants as their Brawn, Robots can use 6)

- GM-Tools: Group-editor: It'd be good if the Obligation/Duty page could show or import the group's characters' obligations/duties.

Under a black sun adventure has mini thermal detonators in it. and rules for faulty ones.

Ogg, I had one of my players report that the tree for Hired Gun marauder is incorrect, would you mind double checking it please.

Where are you seeing this? I see nothing about google or dropbox when I click the install in Programs and Features.

I went through it and it appears to be correct: right talents and right connections. Did he say what he thought was wrong with it?

It is now restricted :)

Its been added. I made it 1200 credits and gave it Limited Ammo 1. The module didn't mention anything about Breach, Disorient, or Vicious, so I didn't include those. The only difference between the working ones and the faulty ones is that the faulty ones are crit 3, so I didn't add a separate entry for them (its just a plot device for the adventure). It'll be sourced as "Under a Black Sun".

Oggy, if you click the program in Programs and Features, you get the details at the bottom under Update Information. This is on Win 8. Not sure if its the same on earlier versions of Windows.

The version of the install in the image is wrong. Am on 1.1.0.12. Not sure why it hasn't changed.

Oh, cool. Yeah, I have Vista, so it doesn't show up.

There's two different versions. One is the software release version, the other is the install version. The install version is updated every time I deploy an install. That means if, say, I find a major bug with a particular release and I re-deploy that release, the install version will increment, while the release version stays the same. I know it's confusing, and I might consolidate them in the future, but for now, I'm just happy that ClickOnce is actually working :)

I guess this has been already answered but, can I choose the install folder with the the web install version? it seems it can't be done but don't know if there is a workaround,

And thanks, it's an awesome tool!

Hi OggDude,

I was going through putting in some information on the program and was wondering if you might make the ability to create new item qualities; for those of us that like to homebrew certain things?

Oggy

Not sure these additional Tags are working

- makes everything go small, even text before the Tag

[L] - makes everything go large, even text before the Tag

[T] - gives all text bigger and a blue background, even text before the Tag

[W] - gives all text bigger and a blue background, even text before the Tag

[OP] - Larger text, even before the tag

[iN] - Doesnt appear to do anything.

Hope that all makes sense
