Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm still working out the google drive/dropbox bit and trying to figure out if I can share one dataset (on my google drive or my GM's dropbox) with my entire group. Once that's figured out, I'll probably look into the web install.

The main reason that I haven't yet, is that every version tends to throw in a little bug or two. By waiting and doing the manual install I can avoid some of those.

I'll get there eventually though.

Yeah, it's sometimes five bugs fixed, one bug created :) That's what happens when you're your own QA tester. Although I think this last version is pretty clear of glaring bugs.

Incidentally, if you install off the web, you can later revert back to a previously-installed version. So if you don't like the new version for some reason, go back to the old one. You can do this from the Programs and Features control panel.

Here's a question? Where does the web install actually install itself, where is the default directory?

And if I move the .exe files to my drop box folder will this automatically become the new launch location or is there something else that I need to do?

Btw, I haven't heard back about the tinkerer talent yet but I did ask.

Minor Bug (In version 1.1.0.9, but I haven't seen it corrected in 1.1.0.12's notes):

In GM-editor, when you upgrade a stock-vehicle's weapons, the original weapon doesn't appear in the list.

E.g: I tried to upgrade one of the YT1300's built-in Medium Laser Cannon to a Double Medium Laser Cannon (to gain the linked 1 quality)

GM-Tools - Adversaries:

If the name of the Adversary is long: on the Stat-block image: only the name's beginning is shown.

E.g. Import "Trex" from the "Escape from Mos Shutta" and the trailing "]" doesn't show, only "[Nemesis"

Nevermind. My Fault. (I leave it here to show: maybe documentation should be upgraded too. ;) )

Updating from prev version (1.1.0.9 -> 1.1.0.12):

I did, what I've told: deleted the Data directory and then extracted the zip and overwritten all files.

All my characters and GM stuff disappeared.. :(

As for characters: Import worked one-by-one

As for Encounters and campaigns: Import worked too

Stock-vehicles: import didn't work !!!

Groups: there is no import at all !

The best way to find out where the program is being stored is to just click the "App Folder" button. Microsoft has its own mysterious algorithm for figuring out where ClickOnce apps go.

And yeah, if you move everything in the app directory of a web install to a new directory, you can run it from that new directory. But the program will still be installed in its original place and updates will still be performed there. If copying into your DropBox folder is something you want to do, I wouldn't bother with the web install; just unZIP the manual install there.

And what was your Tinkerer question?

Uh... yeah, well, I actually remove the current weapon from the list. I didn't think about someone just wanting to add a link to an existing weapon. I'll look into removing the restriction in the next release. And this sounds like deja vu . Has this been brought up before?

I thought I had included my auto-label resizer code in the stat block generator, but maybe I didn't. I'll take a look.

Well, I'm not sure what you did and how you got it working, but...

When you upgrade to a version of the software where the data directory can be set anywhere, you have two choices (both of which are in the documentation): you can change the data folder's path to the location of your old install, or you can transfer your data files from the old install to the new location. You do this from the launcher. You don't have to import characters and adversaries one at a time, it does it all at once.

Hey OggDude, I either spotted an error in the character generator or an error in the Age of Rebellion rulebook, or maybe an error in my interpretation of data. In the character generator the E-11S Sniper Rifle isn't listed as being a ristricted weapon, but in the rulebook it is. It's not a terribly great or overpowered weapon either. Thoughts?

As far as I know, built-in equipment for droids still count against encumbrance. Their built-in nature is a narrative device only.

If you want to keep track of which items are built-in, you can use the equipment notes feature.

I would agree that built-in adds to encumbrance and point out a benefit - you don't need to use an incidental/maneuver/action to grab the item to use it. It's looking for a comlink in a backpack versus automatically already having it. The minus is never being able to drop those pounds without a mechanic and some tools, time, and a chance of, "Oops, I removed the comlink but what does this thingy do?" as the droid PC suddenly develops a lisp . :)

Hello Oggdude! Id like to thank you for your generous contribution to the EOTE community! Great work man!

You're very welcome :) Hope you're getting a lot of use out of it!

Don't know, I'm using the program for about a week or two.

I have to join one previous commenter: THIS IS GREAT and we THANK YOU !!!

One more on this topic: I noticed, that for the YT2400, if you upgrade it's (twin laser) weapon to a linked weapon: 1 hard point is subtracted. It's more of a game-rule question, though... (The original weapon was already a linked weapon so changing it to another linked: shouldn't cost you hard points...)

I'm not a rules expert, but on page 271 CRB, it says "Weapon systems combining two or more weapons always cost one hard point, even if replacing an existing weapon system." That's why it costs an HP. If I'm reading this incorrectly, someone please chime in.

I believe (as I've been interpreting it anyway), that the intention being that even combined/linked weapons use up a net 1 HP. So a single cannon uses the same space as a triple-linked cannon. So replacing one with another nets no HP cost since you are exchanging. Adding a new weapon system always uses 1 HP no matter linked or not.

The way I read it is if it doesn't have the linked rule on the weapon already you need to use a Hardpoint to gain the Linked rule. If it already has the linked rule, it doesn't cost further hardpoints to add the same weapon, but you should use common sense to limit the number of weapons linked.

On your character generator . I noticed that on the skill page I have a black box with a red x in it . Is that a removal of a set back die from a talent or something? Thank you

Yes. It means to remove one setback from your roll. Just a reminder :)

Hey Oggy you should add force dice to rolls. For example I have enhance base force power which allows you to add a force die to coordination and spend it to add a success or advantage to your roll.

One thing I'm running into is I can't link more of the original weapon. For example, the YT-1300 has one medium laser cannon on the ships dorsal and ventral ends. I can't get it to add a second one to get the link attribute and I can remove the original to add linked medium laser cannons. My apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I didn't feel like going through 75 pages. :(

Edit: Also the weapon arc image seems not to show the ventral arc arrow when you mod any ventral weapons.

Oggy,

I would like to make an enhancement request to the Data Editor. Would it be possible to add a Footer tag, like the header tags, but make it a smaller font and right justified. Or is there already a way to do this?

Ogg on the Bounty Hunter Assassin tree, I bought the 20pt Stalker on the bottom left and the 25pt Precise Aim on the bottom left corner which is attached does not become available. Is this a bug?

I just tried it and it worked for me, plus I went over the XML and it is correct. You may have edited the Assassin tree sometime in the past. Run the Data Editor and see if the Assassin specialization has "CustomItem" next to it. If it does, remove it and revert it to "DescOnly". If it doesn't, make sure you have the latest release; I do show it being modified on March 3rd.
