Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Message to OggDude.

I consider your excel spreadsheet a life saver. I was wondering, if there was any chance of you listing a timeline of for of updates for the character sheet.

Thanks

Is this the thread to report bugs with the 1.8 beta? Because when I launch the 1.8 launcher it messes with my screen resolution. I have Win10, but it does it regardless of whatever compatibility mode I use.

I wonder when the next version of the generator will release.

Are we hours, days, weeks, or months away from an update?

Also I know I put the manual download link on my website. Does anyone know what the Web Install URL was? Now that OggDude's signature no longer displays I was not sure what that URL was. I wanted to add it for easy access to my OggDude Page

When it's done.

Frankly, I'd rather that OggDude take his time and make sure things as right as can be managed than pull a Microsoft and push out an update that requires an update to fix the previous update.

Any chance of putting a link to the beta version in the first posting? It's hard to find in this massive thread...

I think I have everything added from Forged in Battle. I do need to add some gear pictures and the like. So, it's slowly getting there...

Also, if anyone here in in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'll be at DunDraCon the 17th through the 20th of this month at the San Ramon Marriott. If you'll be there, I'll probably be running a SW game or two in open gaming, so stop by my table and say hi :)

Hey, I'll be at DunDraCon - I'll keep an eye out!

Do you need help imputing any other data? Let the community know!

Imputing? I don’t think anyone on this forum needs any help imputing anything.

OggDude,

Amazing, work man, thanks. I've been using your app almost since the beginning. :) it's saved me so much time.

I'm having an issue w/ the latest build (1.7.0.?) though. It doesn't seem to be saving characters -- it generates an empty "Char" xml file (0KB) when I click save, but no data is retained. Further, it won't import any of the character xmls I've saved/exported from previous builds. It acts as if they are invalid files.

All my other previous data (Adversaries, customData, Stock vehicles, etc) show up just fine. It's just character files that seem to be giving me grief. I've reinstalled a few times, and tried a clean custom data folder to no avail.

Anyone else have this issue? Hoping there's a fix i'm overlooking.

Many thanks. :-)

try updating your DotNET installation.

Thanks SilindeT, that was it!

cheers!

I'm having a problem with the current version: whenever I try to load a character I get an unhandled exception error and the program closes out. My .net framework is updated, so I don't think that's the issue. I tried the 1.8 beta version, but the generator on that version won't even open for me in the first place. Anyone know what I need to do to fix this?

EDIT: aaaaaaand I just cleared the cache and it works now. I'd delete this post, but I don't see the option to do so.

Hey Ogg.

I thought I would bring up a few things that appear in No Disintegrations that you may have to think about when implementing:

1) Integrated holsters. This new armor attachment increases the encumbrance of the armor by 4, but the holsters can then hold two encumbrance 3 weapons, while those two weapons are holstered they do not count towards the encumbrance threshold. This is going to create an awkward scenario where their encumbrance is both over and not over depending on if their weapons are drawn or not. So you may want to consider how this will effect things.

2) Another encumbrance conundrum. The Repulsor Assisted Lifting attachment specifies "Add 5 to the wearer's Brawn for the purposes of determining the encumbrance threshold." I don't know why they did it this way instead of just saying +5 to encumbrance, but there must be a reason, so you might want to consider how to calculate it accurately maybe?

3) Exploits are traits assigned to a Bounty Hunter, would it be worth storing this on a character sheet? Maybe as a far along future feature a 'Generate Bounty Contract' feature could be added? Just an idea.

Fairly noob question, but can the GM tools manage group Obligation? I have created a group, added a member but can't seem to be able to pull his obligations into the GM tools section.

Yes, it can. You need to have a copy of the character in the character generator. I believe, however, that the characters' individual Obligations (and Duty, and Morality) will only appear when you print it out. When printing, there should be a check box indicating whether or not to include it. (At work right now, so I can't verify.)

But, I can attest that my group's printout has their individual and group Obligations (and Duty for the one character who had it).

Oh thank you, that works!

I am using 1.7.0.1 and a PC just added the Hunter (Seeker) specialisation; however the "Force Powers" button doesn't appear, any idea why? Am I missing something?

If they did not begin as a Force-using career (any career from Force and Destiny Book), they don't gain a Force rating unless they add the Force-Sensitive Exile or the Force Sensitive Emergent Universal Specializations.

You can add the class but you don't get to do any Force Stuff.

Is it by the Rules? I guess I missed that part

Yes. The two universal Force-using specializations give you FR 1 when you choose them (unless you already have it, or a higher rating; it's not a +1). In Force & Destiny, it's the *careers* that give you FR 1, not the specs.

Just now, aljovin said:

Yes.

The Force Rating is a bonus of beginning as one of those Careers. In the description of the Career just below where it lists the career's skills, it states that you begin with a Force Rating of 1. The individual Specializations do not have this feature.

The For ce-Sensitive Exile or the Force Sensitive Emergent Universal Specializations list on their Specializations that the character "Gain Force Rating of 1".

Amazing resource!

Using 1.8 beta...

found two problems, both attachments:

1) The rapid-Recharge XCiter base has Inaccurate 3 however both the mods of decrease Inaccurate quality don't actually do anything. On the char sheet the weapon it is attached to still has 3 blacks added to it.

2) It looks like the Kyber crystals are resetting or removing the traits on the hilt. To me they are just an attachment that changes base damage and crit rating then modifies everything else.

an example of why this is a problem is the Guard shoto hilt has defensive 1 and the base Lorrdian gemstone has defensive 1 so the weapon made from both added together should have defensive 2, it does not. unless I am wrong or don't know something?

second point was incomplete

In dangerous covenants there is some guidance for retrofitting civilian vehicles with a paramilitary template. Is this option in the generator anywhere at the moment or would I need to create some attachments to replicate this?
