Another Character Generator

Our saviour hath returned! Welcome back Ogg, we appreciate all the hard work you put into this app and no sweat, RL gets in the way all the time with anything we do.

That being said I am clearly labelling October 2016 to January 2017 "The Dark Times".

Great to see you back, Oggy. We missed ya!

OggDude,

Your toolkit has been wonderful. I'm glad that you are back. I felt it really important that I could put across how thankful I am that you made it. I shall be donating to the fund come next paycheck. Thank you, again.

Good to have you back, Oggy!

Question..

When I go to print an adversary stat block, it gives me the options for text size from tiny to extra large. I was hoping to print them small so I could have a bunch behind my gm screen. However when I choose tiny, it fills the whole page. Anyway to get them smaller, say 4x6 or less? Thanks!

... Forged in Battle (AoR, soldiers), Endless Vigil (F&D, sentinels), and Friends Like These (AoR adventure, but with Mandalorians as a species & various vehicles and gear). No Disintegrations (EotE, bounty hunters) is on the proverbial boat, and hopefully coming real soon now; and Ghosts of Dathomir (F&D adventure, on Toydaria) is at the printer.

Of those, thankfully there aren't a lot of new systems that need added and its mostly data entry.

Forged in Battle - Nothing Major here. Scars are a new optional mechanic however. I just used the data editor to create a custom Scar gear type and have added them there. It would of course be nice to be able to buy them with xp, but since they are an optional rule, I'm not sure how important of a feature it is for them to have their own UI.

Endless Vigil - Again, most of it is data entry. There are a couple of talents that are going to require some custom code and a new force power that does some unique stuff. The main thing though is the addition of Lightsaber crafting. I haven't played around with editing the crafting files but the format seems that it should mesh easily with the current crafting UI.

Force Awakens Box Set - There are only a couple of new items in there and honestly, it's hardly worth digging them out. The Micro-grenade launcher and the staff maybe.

Friends like these - Nothing but data. A race, a couple of weapons, armor and gear and a few ships.

Overall, I think only the scars system is really doing anything too bizarre.

BTW, Oggdude, feel free to PM me if you require copies of any of the books in question.

Forged in battle: I think the shistevan (sp?) Combat utility vibroblade breaks some conventions, not sure about the throwing shield hat thing.

In friends like these, the mandalorian human species breaks established conventionso in that it gives you a choice of any one combat skill or 2 knowledge skills... this can be shoe-horned in by making 2 subspecies but it doesn't really fit.

As you noted scar talents also don't fit.

Welcome back, Ogg-star!

Has anyone managed to get this running with Mono/WINE? Could you offer any advice? Cheers

The hat isn't an issue as there are already spears that are both melee and ranged. That knife does give a boost dice... hmm... I think that it is possible. I'll have to give it a try tonight. As you mentioned, I figured the Mandalorian would just have a subspecies.

As a fan of OCG, is there a way we can help (aside from throwing dollars at him, but that also could help)?

If I were to take a book, like Endless Vigil, and start typing species fluff and crunch into a .docx file, would it be helpful? If so, any formatting guidelines?

See where I'm going with this question?

Question: I added in a specialization tree and the respective talents that it uses into the Data Editor. When I went into the Character Generator an selected the specialization, I got an error message. All I did was add in the specialization, ensure it was checked with the correct career and saved. Did I miss something important?

The error message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I created a new dataset and it's working out just fine. Question resolved.

You can create datasets and send the resulting XML files to him. He has taken information this way from the community in the past.

I don’t know off the top of my head who all has sent this kind of data to him, but there are a number on this forum who have contributed in that way.

All hail the great and powerful OGG!

Great to have you back!

Eagerly awaiting the item creation tools from the 1.8 release.

The temporary ones in 1.7 don't quite cut it, and I have glitches in the 1.8 beta where all of the information does not print out on the sheets.

Thanks Oggy!

I've been having a persistent error with the character builder that I can't figure out. Whenever I save something, I get an error message saying "The path is not a legal form." It then crashes. Has anyone had this error before?

Minor error that a friend of mine just pointed out.

With the Custom Grip attachment (Special Modifications), it doesn't included Powered Melee in the list of weapon categories that the attachment can be applied to. Thus, she can't add it to her PC's force pike since the pike is a Powered Melee weapon.

Hello oggdude. Love the software, incredibly helpful. I'm having a problem though. I went to start the Chargen today and it gave me an error and would not open. It basically just tells me it won't open. I threw it into google and saw that other people have had the same issue before and it has to do with a bad install or the SQL files. I tried to track down everything from the directories and delete them and do a fresh install. And so far no matter what I do, manual or web install the Chargen will not open. Launcher works fine, data editor boots up fine, and the gm tools either do nothing, or boot up fine. I gave up for a bit and then came back again and tried to run the web install but now the setup.exe won't run either and gives me an error. If you have any ideas it would be most helpful. again thanks a lot for the software.

Hi, does anyone have any advice for running this under WINE or Mono on mac? Thanks.

Can't wait for the 1.8 updates, with the Forced in Battle - Soldiers Sourcebook has got some interesting stuff that will come in handy when I get round to selecting a new specialization.

So I'm adding an Omwati species file to your program, and instead of this being only my opinion, and because I've only got a few bites on another thread I'm gonna ask all of your opinions on this.

I think a 3 in int and 1in brawn with 2s in everything else seems a no brainer.

100xp to start

However that only shows they are smart, not particularly unique.

They have a high aptitude for technology and music. I'm consider doing something like the sluissi racial skills but not sure if being good at repairs is fitting.

What about a starting rank in inventor from the engineer field? Or the ability to add a rank in two music or technology based skills?

Have a look here for species creation information. All non-book species come from here. You might find something similar to what you are looking for.

https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/94827-unofficial-species-menagerie-30-revised-original-eote-layout/

Yes I've looked there, yes something is similar, it's the sluissi, but it's not exactly a match so I'm still putting it out there to gather people's opinions

Sluissi are more mechanics, Omwati have technical aptitude, similar but different.
