When Item crafting, you cannot set the number of Advantages, only Threats, Successes, Triumphs and Despairs.

Use the radio buttons to choose either advantage or threat for the first numeric control. Default is advantage.

Oh, and when crafting a droid, each template selection (chassis or directive) has its own set of symbols, so if you're adding a directive as well as a chassis, you'll need to enter your roll results twice.

Hey Guys, For anyone having issues running on Windows 10. I was having an issue where the program Character Generator wouldn't load. While I'm sure there is a more elegant fix, a quick and easy fix for me was to run it as a windows 7 app buy using the troubleshooting option. See the image below for help.

Thanks, Slade, for the heads up. This solution worked in part for me.

For those on windows 10 having issues, you may want to right click each of the 5 EXE files (SWCharGen.exe, SWCharGenDataEditor.exe, SWCharGenGMTools.exe, SWCharGenLauncher.exe, and SWCharGenShell.exe) in your installation folder and do the following:

1) Right click the EXE.

2) Go to Properties.

3) Go to the Compatibility tab.

4) Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

5) Change the dropdown box to "Windows 7"

6) Hit Apply and OK

7) Repeat for all other EXEs.

This will hold the compatibility settings from one run to the next and should give you access to all program features.

What exactly is it doing on Windows 10? I have the current version installed on my Windows 10 tablet and it seems to work fine.

1.7 seems to work no problem, but 1.8Beta was throwing .net exceptions. I'll try it again when I get home and post screenshots.

Also, I think the crafting calculation is off. I have a Solid Projectile Pistol that I have added advantage and triumphs to, as well as a despair. When selecting the Ammo-Inefficient quality it marks 3 Despairs instead of 1, as if it is looking at the number of threats. Everything else on the crafting side looks good so far.

I did verify I had 4.5.2 installed, or is there a subversion it requires?

The latest version should do. I upgraded to 4.5 so it'll work with Mono. What error are you seeing?

I was briefly working on an effect editor for the Data Editor, but it's pretty darned complex, so I just added a droid trait editor. Plus, if I do go down that road, I'd also have to make the Inquisitor data editable as well. Maybe, some day.

Any chance that we could add both Advantage and Threat to crafted items? My group uses a houserule whereby you don't have to cancel them against each other when crafting so that you can end up with a good item with interesting drawbacks- no idea if this is a common enough houserule to be worth the change though.

In this same vein, is it possible to pull the limits off? We use a house rule where Triumphs allow you to buy beyond the limit.

Hey all, something real weird is going on. I downloaded the beta of the new version, and when I went back to the version I was using before, the builder wasn't displaying any of my characters. In fact, if I try to make new characters the thing crashes on me. The only thing different from before is that I installed a newer version of the .NET framework, and cleared the cache before launching the beta version. Here's the text of the error if it helps:

Probably not in the first release, but if enough people want either one, I can add it to GM Grants or something like that.

I'd appreciate that option, too, for what it's worth.

I'm actually going to Germany for work during the first couple of weeks of September, so I won't have time to work on it then. I'm trying to get as much done before then so I can hopefully get it out some time in October. There's also Forged in Battle, which I haven't even bought yet, to support.

This was also my issue. I think it was a .NET issue but installing newer versions wasn't clearing it. I also recall something about a Null Value in Family. Sorry I was in a bit of a rush to get it working for a game and didn't take proper bug logs.

Specialization pane: "Select Specialization:" seems to intersect the drop down box where you select the chosen spec you want to look at, probably an effect of changing the font.


Motivation Pane: The Specific are where you see the fluff text's bottom box line is missing, I can only assume this means the border is offset.


Skill Pane: The grid isn't stretching to fit the whole window when the generators window is enlarged. The title bars also appear to look odd. "Non-Career" and "Rank Attach" are far seperated and looks wierd.


SKills and Equipment Pane: You can't alter the column width, and like the skill pane, grids and colums don't fill the window.


Most text is now off center due to the font change, you can see it on almost everything, buttons, characteristic ratings etc. Lower the text down a little bit on most buttons, the top XP bar and a few other items and they will be centered. Some are even not just raised but have shifted a little to the right, it may be worth checking every element to see that it is properly aligned. Part of the problem changing typeface and font. Great job though, the fonts are really authentic to the book.

Edit: Found a potential bug, while trying to print a group sheet, got an exception error. Deleted the group, made a new one, when I tried to add characters they wouldn't appear in the "Current Members" area but they would disappear from "Avalible Characters", cancelling the creation of the group then leads to an exception error:

Is this from a web install? If so, uninstall (if you've already installed it), upgrade to the latest version of the .NET framework, and try a re-install. You can also try turning off any virus checker temporarily just while installing the app. Virus checkers can do all sorts of weird things under the hood, especially when it already thinks something is suspicious (such as downloading an unsigned executable named Setup.exe :) ).

You ran into a known issue with ClickOnce installs. This happens occasionally, but not to everyone. Sometimes, a new deployment will fix it. Unfortunately, I have no control over how ClickOnce works, so I can't fix it :( . You may have better luck when 1.8 is released.

In the mean time, you can use the manual install and just copy the contents of the ZIP file into a directory and run it from there.

I have had this problem for months now. And I'm running 8.1

Oggdude, Running the 1.8 Beta, on Windows 10 upgraded from windows 7, latest version of .Net

Started the App bugchecked clicked continue and it worked. Clicked the Data Loc button, bug checked, clicked continue and it didn't do a thing

Started the app with Admin Creds, no problems. Clicked Data Editor waiting mouse pointer then nothing. clicked Character Generator waiting cursor then nothing.

Tried running character gen directly, waiting cursor then nothing,

Tried using the previously mentioned click Manage/troublshoot compatibility same as above.

Manually set char gen to run with win7 compatibility and it ran fine. Started it from the launcher (still set to win7 campat) ran no problem.

Set launcher to win7 compat runs no problem. click data editor, runs fine (data editor not set for campatibility)

Other bugs,

vehicle sheet (When printed) has no shield values, i think it is showing the variable name I can't read it so I can't be sure
