Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Thanks for all your hard work.

Wow, just found this like, 3 days ago and this update....wow!

I'm having problems getting the new version to run. I've tried removing the program, totally deleting the data folder and all data, clearing caches, and every other thing I can think of, but I still get teh same error. Any thoughts. This is a Windows 10 Enterprise machine with plenty of resources.

When I select "New" I get an error:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Oops :)

It was caused by a "fix" I made yesterday for something else. I'll do another release shortly...

OK, the "New" character issue is fixed. Just download the ZIP file again, or run the web install to get it. Sorry about that.

Thanks for your quick response. The fact that you are willing and able to do all this for a free product is amazing. I'm certainly not going to overly complain about the occasional error.

Please mention them, though. That's the only way I can fix them :)

It seems that when the margins are set to less than 0.5" (default), it screws up the Group and CompactCharacter PDF printouts, but the Encounter and StandardCharacter PDFs are not impacted by this setting and come out fine.

If I set the margins to less than 0.5", then the PDFs for Group and CompactCharacter come out all 9-pin-dot-matrixy .

So, I have a workaround for now, but I'm still curious how the margin setting messes up some PDF outputs, but not all.

*shrug*

It looks like you have fixed this for me, thank you!

Not sure what I did :) It was probably awhile ago and I didn't get it into the Bug Fix list. I know that one thing that causes really bad resolution on printed sheets is having a bad image file. Brad had this problem, and the compact character sheet also had the problem when the dice pool section was added. In both cases, an image file had some sort of corruption. I fixed them the same way; just loaded the image, changed the contrast or brightness enough to fix the bad pixels, and the problem went away.

Have any native French, German, or Spanish speakers used the new release yet? :) Just curious how people are getting along with the new language feature.

Thank you Ogg! Starting new campaign, can't wait. I do have a suggestion for the future though?

For adversaries, is it possible to have the source and category be separate? For example you can look at all the Imperial adversaries from all the books, or specifically from one book? Just a suggestion.

Missing item from Chronicles of the Gatekeeper, Suijo Wardes holocron: Gives Brawl and Vigilance as career skills. There is no base holocron from the Force and Destiny core rulebook that gives both these benefits. One gives vigilance and skulduggery, another gives brawl and streetwise.

Lightsaber Hilt Construction Modifications:

The "added hard points to item mod" is adding 5 hard points per option.

I do not have the book, but that seems a bit excessive.

Is that correct?

Ok, was able to repeat it. If you start with the above mod, it works as intended . If you fill all the HPs on the hilt, then select the custom hilt attachment and finally the "Add HP to item" it does it by a factor of 5. If you start off the with above attachment, select the mod and then add other attachments the factor 5 happens again. Getting 25hp for a lightsaber is badass.

You can also add multiple crystals to the basic hilt if this option is selected. Which I am pretty positive cannot happen.

In GM tools, bases, the Rebel Base option is displaying the respective credit and obligation costs.

More importantly, it is not letting you select anything. It does not respond to any of the three bottom options (add, purchase, cancel). I have to hit the 'X' to close out the window.

The other base options show the respective costs, but still cannot close out the window.

Here’s an interesting one — I don’t think that the Golan Arms Defense Platform or the Corellian Cargo Shuttle qualify as “Airborne Creatures”. Witness:

First of all: Thanks for the great work! I use your character generator since my EotE-beginning! Now I'm happy to see the new language feature. I can only speak for the german language file, which is in most parts fine (didn't check everything though). Some translation are a bit... clunky. But for the first release of this feature I think it's great! :)

Hilarious :) Dumb mistake that's probably been in the last few releases. Fixed. And yes, you can add more than one crystal if you want to, but there's no point, since the second one will overwrite what the first one does. This is more of a common sense thing, and I didn't feel like special-casing crystals over other attachments.

The only thing I can think of for why I commented out the lines that set the button events is it had something to do with language testing. Anyway, buttons are back in order.

Was there a special way you got that to show up, because I checked both files and they both have the proper type, and they show up just fine when I create a new vehicle on a character. The only airborne creatures are the Doran'enok and Velker. Are you sure something wasn't changed in the data editor?

Keep 'em coming. I'd like to get a few more fixes in before tomorrow. I'll do another bug fix release then.

Wardes Foresight comes up as an added item in my data editor.

As you can probably tell, I add most of the new stuff (except for gear and weapons; I just copy and paste those from the XML) using the data editor, and then copy them over to my VS project. And sometimes I forget to remove the <Custom> tags :)

And as you can probably tell, it's almost 4 in the morning and I'm still up. I've been in bed with a head cold for the past two days, and now my body is rejecting all thoughts of sleep :) I'm still wide awake and ready to go.

Ouch, sorry to hear that ogg, another one for you! Cause - Freedom seems to be listed as 'Revenge' for me.

Probably a cut-and-paste error. Easily fixed.

Great work no question about it but I'm a little bit disapointet I thought the generator would be now complete available in german language.

But there are so many texts still in english and abilities/skills descriptions are missing.

Was there a special way you got that to show up, because I checked both files and they both have the proper type, and they show up just fine when I create a new vehicle on a character. The only airborne creatures are the Doran'enok and Velker. Are you sure something wasn't changed in the data editor?

I do have the most recent “Vegotmatic All-in-One Datset” loaded. Is there something I should do to unload that dataset and re-test?

I've got a feature request. I am currently trying to run a Old Republic style campaign. One of the things we ran into after the first session was all of the PCs felt like as Padawans from the Jedi Temple they should have had access to Move, Sense and Influence.

Since Force Powers are currently not included as GM Grants I would greatly appreciate it if you could add them. I worked around it by giving my PCs extra XP to cover the Powers they wanted.

Also this software is amazing please continue producing it.

edit: rephrased the request to make it clear I was talking about GM Grants
