Another Character Generator

Hey @OggDude is there a bug with the Shien Expert talent tree?

In the App the Shien expert has "defensive training" top left but in the book it says "side step"?

I'm not chastising you because this is a hug thread with many pages, however I believe he knows and has said it will be fixed in the next update.

Understood, thanks for pointing that out.

I apologize, please know that my motives were pure. :D

@OggDude you are the man, and thanks for providing such an awesome tool!

Hi OggDude, is there a way to manually add a Force Rating? I couldn't seem to find it. And also, a way to access the Force Powers tree without going through a specialization? If both of these options are not available, could we have them added?

In my current game my players have found an ancient laboratory with a lot Sith Alchemy experiments to create Force Sensitives, by artificially increasing the midi-chlorian count in every cell of the body, naturally this is reflected by them gaining Force Rating, but not through any of these trees.

EDIT: We have now solved this by adding a new dummy specialization that only grants Force Rating, but it would be much more handy to simply have the possibility to add this directly for the future.

take a look at gm grants.

Well would you look at that, never knew about that option.

Still, this one only allows me to grant people Force Rating 1, would still need a way to grant more than Force Rating 1 though, could we add that as an option to the GM Grants as well?

Uh, ok. So this may be covered, but searching through 258 pages of stuff is a bit much, so I'll just ask again (sorry): starting resources for FaD, when the group picks the holocron with skills, does this carry over to the character sheets? Should it be picked before buying skills to get the career cost?

For the starting Holocron at character creation, per Sam the intent was that the skills become bonus career skills after the character's starting XP has been spent.

As for this program, each PC in the group would have to select and add the appropriate holocron to their gear, and ideally any skill ranks previously purchased would be paid for at the increased cost if they weren't a career skill previously.

The next version will look for holocrons in any group that the character belongs to and use its career skills as well.

Say I added a bunch of user content, like LibrariaNPC's ships, and I wanted to share that so others could add it easily. What would I have to do?

you do not want to grant more than force rating 1. To do so is going to be extrememely unbalancing.

Where is this "Gm Grants" thing?

Never mind found it in the Options part.

The Marauder-Class Assault Corvette (pg 267 eote) describes/lists as having complement of 12 fighters and two shuttles. However, the tool does not list any fighter or shuttle complement. I checked the errata and there was no mention of a deletion to this.

Am I missing something?

Add them to a data set, then export the data set. You can even include pictures and silhouettes. If they exist, they'll be included as well.

It's there. It just wasn't found because of a misspelled XML tag. it's been fixed.

And then just share it via Dropbox or something, or what? You'll have to be patient with me, I am not super savvy with this kind of stuff.

A data set is basically a set of data files stored in its own directory off of the DataCustom directory. You create them by running the data editor and using the "New" button at the top. When you have a data set selected in the drop down, all changes are added to that data set, rather than to the main custom data. When the character generator is loaded, it'll load the master data files (the ones installed with the apps), then custom data (those found in the DataCustom directory), and then finally, each data set that it finds. That's how it gets the final data to use with the apps.

When you export a data set, all it does is add the data set's directory to a ZIP file. When you import a data set, it takes the ZIP file and just extracts it to the DataCustom directory.

If you've added data to the main custom data (without using a data set), you can still add it to a data set. Just create a data set, then go into move/copy mode. What you'll see is all data from all sources with check boxes next to them. Just check the ones you want to move, and hit either Copy (to save a copy of the data to the selected data set), or Move (to move the data to the data set, removing it from it's original source).

That's the basics of data sets :)

Hey Ogg, did you see my request to add the option to grant more Force Rating in the GM Grants section? Sometimes a GM might want to grant a character more than one FR.

Edit: Oh, I would also like to see the option to remove Force Rating from a character, some of my players have started dropping limbs here and there, and eventually this should reduce Force Rating (more machine than man...).

Well would you look at that, never knew about that option.

Still, this one only allows me to grant people Force Rating 1, would still need a way to grant more than Force Rating 1 though, could we add that as an option to the GM Grants as well?

Hi Ogg Dude!

I have recently run into a situation with Motivations where, when I try and create a new one I get a unhandled exception has occured in your application. This has only recently happened since I installed the new version of the program. Thoughts? Ideas?

Also, is there a way to create new types of qualities, for say a different type of material used for armor, etc...?

You probably imported a data set with motivation descriptions, or added your own descriptions. What you need to do is go into your data directory and remove "Motivations.xml" from DataCustom and all DataSet_* directories within DataCustom. Then it'll work.

I currently don't have an editor for qualities, since they're part of ItemDescriptors, and those are generally code-specific. However, you can do it by hand if you're up for it :) I think I actually described how to do this in an old post. You might try searching for "ItemDescriptors" and see what you find.

Cool, thank you so much.

Hello, am a new member here, and I love your character generator. I do have a question, where can i find data sets?

When I did a search for them, google brings up a link to Big tent, but when i click on it, it says BigTent.Com is not supported in my country...

Thanks

Recently, the generator is having some hiccups. For some reason, I'm no longer able to copy characters. As soon as they're saved, they don't appear in the actual list. This happened to me once before and clearing the cache fixed it. No longer. However, I noticed that the copies I created earlier are actually in the folder. The generator just isn't placing them in the character selection menu. Any ideas?

Regardless, thanks again for an amazing program!

I just copied a character, and then deleted it, and it worked fine. You could send me the character that's giving you problems and I can see if there's another issue.

I'm able to copy some characters, but not the last few. Here's my most recent one. Thanks for taking a look!

I imported Rogesh, loaded him up fine, copied him, loaded the copy, deleted the copy, copied again... worked fine. If there's an issue, it's probably been fixed :)
