Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I don't recall now which one it was, but there was a creature (Gundark, perhaps?) whose weapon "Meaty Fists" was misspelled "Meaty Fiosts" :)

That's what happens when you enter 50 adversaries in under an hour :) It's been fixed. Also, Gundark was in both the Core and the AoR import directories. I removed it from AoR (which, coincidentally, had "Fists" spelled correctly...).

Probably for the best.

You're the man OggDude!

Also, I was under the impression that ships *could* be minions, can't they?

Aren't the TIE Fighters in Escape from Mos Schuuta treated as minions?

They are but is that because the beginner game is slightly modified? I don't know I don't have the books in front of me right now.

I don't either. I think my nephew took the beginner adventure, so it's probably fallen through a black hole by now.

Is that not how y'all play ordinary games?

If you had two squadrons of TIE Fighters attack your PCs, wouldn't you make them (for example) 2 Minion groups of 3?

Honestly my group hasn't done very much space combat, As a GM I'm still feeling shaky on it. Every time we try it I feel like I'm getting things wrong.

Arkitan, I've felt the same way the couple of times I ran it.

The most recent Order 66 podcast featuring Sam Stewart has a LOT of great advice on running starship combat, as well as some examples of play--just in case you hadn't checked it out, I recommend it!

there are rules for minions in the starships and vehicles section of the core rules

I see the rule on page 238, but it's unclear if the vehicles are treated as just one vehicle as far as damage goes. That is, if, say, you have a starfighter group with hull trauma of 10 each, piloted by the same minion group, would you lose one starfighter for each 10 damage you do to the "minion group" of starfighters? Or would you treat the NPC minion group pilots as one, having them do the same single maneuver/action each turn, but then apply hits and damage on a per-vehicle basis? It sounds like it's the first one. If so, I may have to revisit vehicle encounters...

Found it, on page 238 of the Core Rulebook!

EDIT: Nevermind :)

I'll have to re-read the section, but I figured that 3 TIE Fighters with 10 Hull Trauma Threshold each would be a Minion group of 3 with 30 Hull Trauma Threshold, just as with NPCs.

Also, while it doesn't say it explicitly, would you ignore system strain? And would critical hits destroy one of the "minion" starfighters?

That would be my guess about how it's done. Minion combat is designed to be pretty streamlined--that sounds right to me.

Any chance of putting a check for update feature into the application?

I got vehicles minions working for encounters. First, I added a setting to vehicles called "Single Pilot Craft". If this is set, you can use that vehicle as a minion. I went through and set it for all starfighters, most speeders, and other small vehicles.

In the encounter editor, you add adversaries and vehicles like normal. When you go to rosters, single-pilot vehicles will have a checkbox next to them, assuming you've included minion adversary groups. If you check it, you're allowed to choose any minion adversary you've added. This minion will now be "attached" to the vehicle. After that, you're not allowed to use any of those minions for any other vehicle. If any of the minions in the group were being used by another vehicle, those positions are automatically removed.

Once a vehicle has been defined with a minion group, you can change the count of the minion adversary as normal, except now, not only are you changing the number of minions in the group, you're also changing the number of vehicles for those minions.

You don't set vehicle positions for minion vehicles. The encounter does it for you. A minion will automatically be assigned to the Pilot position and each Gunner position.

Here's an example of what vehicle minions look like on the encounter sheet. This will be in addition to showing the standard minion adversary block, of course.

Most impressive. Neat, clutter free and compact. Ideal for GMs, great work once again Ogg!

Nicely done!

I am experiencing several issues related to vehicles. When I go to the Editor and create a starship and save it. The ship's file appears in the custom data folder for vehicles however I can not see it in the character creator, or the GM tools. When I try to import the file in it says not a vaild file.

Never mind it works now

You're work is amazing, Hard to believe this is all done by just one person. You must not have any free time. Thanks for all the hard work.

Just saw this site. It might be useful for some of the vehicle silhouettes, and perhaps images.

Thanks! Yeah, that site is an excellent source for silhouettes. I just wish they included text with the pictures so you knew what the model numbers were.

Anyone found any more issues with the last release? I have the new one ready to go, but it's rather light on fixes :) The major enhancement is vehicle and vehicle minion tracking in the encounter sheet.

Ack, I found a typo last night but I can't remember what it is! Sorry OggDude!

Looking through it now to see any mistakes, will edit this as I find them.

Missile Tube is missing a bracket for the header.

Anti-Personnel Mine, and a lot of vehicles are missing their page reference number.

Assalt Concussion Missile Launcher is misspelt, should be Assault Concussion Missile Launcher.

That's it from what I can see but I may have still missed some.

Oh yes!

"Lamda" shuttle should be "Lambda".

That's the one I noticed. Thanks!
