This tool is amazing, thank you.

I have a few questions regarding the Compact print option. It seems that it only prints the dice pool for skills the character has one or more ranks in, plus Cool, Perception and Vigilance. Is it possible to get more precise control over this? I couldn't find it anywhere in the options. In addition, in Compact mode, you often won't get all talents on the sheet. I don't mind using a separate page for a talent tree, but is there an option that makes it possible to boot even the last one-two talents of the compact sheet (to make more room for, say, those skill)?

Thanks

I run the character through a lot of contortions in the attempt to get it to fit on a single page. Skills with no ranks don't show up, except for commonly-used skills like Cool, etc. The reason I add the other ones, even if they have no rank, is because they're used a lot during play. Other than that, though, there's no need to show unranked skills. I suppose I could have an option for adding additional skills, but I'm not sure how useful this would be.

As for talents, Force powers, duty, items, etc., it just fills in whatever there's space for. You can give priority to certain talents, FP's and the like in the Compact Options dialog if there's certain ones that you want displayed.

Remember, one-page sheets are most useful for beginning characters, or as a summary sheet for the GM if the basic character info on the group sheet isn't enough. The standard sheet is probably around 4 or 5 pages at least, so cramming it all onto one sheet is going to cause certain items to drop off. This can be somewhat controlled by using the Compact Options dialog.

I like the new built-in attachments, but it's still adding the extra hard points for them without filling them in with the built-in attachments themselves like it used to. Not sure which way you wanted to go with that, the extra HP count already filled in, or the built-in attachments not showing as using slots and just the normal number of HP available?

I also ran into a bug where a rank 1 tinkerer wasn't applying the extra HP and every time loading the character would prompt on load to choose an item for the talent.

Also ran into an issue where unselecting tinkerer from the spec tree would wipe all the existing attachments on an item, if it there was still an open HP slot.

Not sure what you mean with the attachments. Build-in attachments should show up as attachments when you first buy an item. They don't count against HP, and won't have any optional mods in the beginning.

Tinkerer seems to be working for me. I select it, select an item, then save. When I bring the character back up, the tinkered item is still tinkered and it doesn't prompt me to choose. How were you getting this problem to show up?

In linked image, Customizable Armor with +2 HP selected in craft, 2 TR spent on Integral Attachment + superior mod. Should be 6 HP with the +2 HP selected, then the inbuilt mod.

In 2.3.0 and before, when you use Integral attachment, it bumps up the maxiumum HP by 1 for each Integral, then as in the image, it shows 1/7 for the HP slots.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1s5RYU__JIO7Qu-L4WdRYnun-duqHul6S/view?usp=sharing

In 2.3.1, The HP slots are still at 7, but it shows 0/7 when setting something with integral attachments, an extra, open, HP slot is on the item now.

Will look at the character with tinkerer more and see if I can figure out what's up, but behavior is the Choose Dialog for Tinkerer pops up immediately when loading that character. When you choose an item for tinkerer at that point, no extra HP is added to that item when you view its attachments. Will see if I can get more info on this.

I'm not including talents that 1) change skill characteristics, 2) add HPs, or 3) chooses a vehicle for the Rigger spec. I may add them in the future, just like I added Dedication, but not for this release.

And yes, the specialization check box thing is a bug. It'll be fixed in the next release.

Ok, thank you. This is a great tool!

Is this happening on a newly-crafted armor, or an existing crafted armor? I just tried what you said and it ended up with 6 HP with the two attachments.

Crafting now uses the inbuilt attachment feature, so you don't need to add an HP, since inbuilt attachments don't take HP. So instead of 1/7, it'll be 0/6. I'm not sure what it would do to an old piece of crafted armor though.

It had been happening on new armors, old ones still show the 1/7. After a full wipe and reinstall, I can't get the extra inbuilt HP to reproduce. Tinkerer is still being odd though.

Easy to reproduce one is the tinkerer wiping attachments even with open HP. With any attachments on the tinkerer item, removing spec for tinkerer wipes all attachments even if not full.

Second one is spec tree greyed out after initial tinkerer prompt for item. Initially ran into that on the char which always got the prompt, but happens if you save and load with a tinkerer object selected. Purchasing and removing and tree refreshes it to normal.

Third is no extra HP being applied to an old item after being selected, then hitting the choose dialogue again from the spec tree you can set a different item. That item won't have an HP, but if you open the choose dialogue again, the first item will be selected in the dialogue and will have an HP if you go and check again. I've been able to swap items a couple times in the choose dialogue and it always applies it to the item selected just prior to the last choice, as well as what's selected.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Jg1iubXPmGlVPhyB-tbGBxxr-ibUaWKt/view?usp=drivesdk

Example, load char, get prompt, choose HEV. Open HEV attachment, no extra HP. Select choose dialogue, nothing selected, choose segmented armor, view segmented armor, no HP. View the HEV now and it will have an extra HP, but only after selecting another item. Choose again and select stealth suit 1, segmented armor will have an extra HP, but not stealth 1.

Problem is this doesn't happen on all characters or items. Fresh char with fresh item and no problems. Will try loading this char onto another machine and see if it repeats.

Removing Tinkerer actually worked by design. If an HP was being removed from an item, it just removed all of its attachments just to be sure. Not a lot of finesse, I know. So, I made it bit more intelligent. Now, it only removes attachments if it needs to in order to bring used HP at or below total HP (without the addition). And even then, it'll remove attachments one at a time until it's at or below, rather than all of them.

I couldn't get the other issues to happen. I unselected items for Tinkerer, saved, then brought the char back up. When I switched to the spec, it prompted me for the item. It kept the selection, and the item had the extra HP. And I've never seen the grayed-out spec before.

Maybe email me the weird character and I'll see if I can replicate the issues.

I wish the character generator had a way to turn off all equipment from splat books.

There is... Just turn off each source book u don't want.

Actually... the equipment pane and the new vehicle list doesn't pay attention to source. You can filter on them, but it ignores the selection in the Options dialog.

Until it was mentioned, I didn't realize I hadn't added that :) Doh! It should work for the upcoming bug fix release.

Quick question. I typed out all the talent descriptions, but I'm a afraid when I update I will lose that. How can I back it up?

That’s stored in your DataCustom folder, and won’t be overwritten when you update. If you do want to back up, you can copy the DataCustom folder, which can be found by clicking the button on the launcher labeled...dang...I’m at work, and I’m blanking on the button label. Data Location?

Data Folder, thanks!

This has been such an integral part of my game and some of my players have now started installing it. Up until now, I've just had them export their character files and email it to me so I have an updated version but if I were to share my data folder which is already online so I can access it from both of my systems, would they have full access to my GM Tools encounters and adversaries?

If this is the case, is there a way to provide a Players Only launcher/access or password protect the GM Tools data to prevent them from accessing it?

FAQ 2.3 should answer how to do it. and I have a best practices guide for doing that here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/89135-another-character-generator/?do=findComment&comment=2697584

Thank you @SilindeT . That's just what I needed

That is very helpful thank you. I would like them to have access to the specs but I'll take your fix if it removes all the named items. Thanks again.

Noticed a small (but somewhat aggravating) typo. I was searching through sources and trying to erase old added content and just move the descriptions to the new pre-loaded content. For the Unlimited Power species, the source is listed as "Unlimited Powerr" for all three.

Known bug. I am sure Ogg has fixed in the next release...whenever that happens

Is there a way to add an apprentice per the Knights of Fate table in the back?

@OggDude

Would of sent this as a personal message but apparently they system says you cannot receive them....so here I am...

I have a question for you if you wouldn't mind answering

I am almost finished with my latest update with my master list, however while using your character generator to grab the tractor ratings for the tractor beams (because God forbid FFG put it in with the info of the weapon) I noticed that you had a lot more Starship weapons than I currently have on my list (having went through all the books)

Looking into the page references in your generator I found the weapons yes but I have no idea where or how you found prices and raritys for them... For example "long barreled ion cannons" (lead by example page 53) or the long nosed laser cannon (sons of fortune page 107) ... we have the stats yes but not price, rarity and silhouette size requirement.

So may I ask where you found this info? I'd like to add it to my list but I prefer to have sources listed, I scoured a couple of books hoping to find pricing on those missing weapons to no avail

Howdy! I was simply curious if anyone shares their data files? I have mine almost complete, with the exception of a few talent trees from the newest source books (Dawn of the Rebellion) etc. and id be happy to share 😛 if its allowed.

@OggDude

Hey,

I've been looking around, trying to find an answer but couldn't find any.

I'm trying to use your generator on my PC but it wouldn't start - not event the launcher.

I've tried installing .NET, but my Win10 says it's already included.

I would appreciate the assistance.

It is probably your antivirus program, quietly closing it as it opens. Check the logs. I know that Norton doesn't like it and will do that.

There are a few people who do.

There is some on Gitlab, Discord, and a couple of websites. Browse through this thread and you will find them.
