Another Character Generator

Are folks still having problems with the 2.3.0 version?

I was getting ready to download (I think I'm still using 1.7!) but want to make sure it's working clean.

I'm not having problems with the 2.3.0 program version, just with the data downloads... when I did a complete download I ended up with a loss of much data... The previous download (shortly after the new file site opened) was much more complete, though missing some of the later data.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by data downloads? If I download the new version, then either re-create existing characters or pull them over from existing versions, would you anticipate problems?

Also, is there a list of which products are supported by the current version? Are most recent releases (I don't do F&D, so for me, it was the Spy book and I think the Engineer one) included yet?

The current version was released before Cyphers and Masks, so it is not included. Fully Operational, however, is.

OggDude hasn’t gotten Dawn of Rebellion, Unlimited Power, Knights of Fate, or Ghosts of Dathomir data entered yet.

Thanks!

Ghosts of Dathomir is in. Knights of fate, unlimited b

Power are not. Fully operational is not fully bug free yet.

The only Ghosts of Dathomir content that I see in it is what I entered myself. Are you sure it's in there?

I was sure he did it in the last update. Since fully operational came out well after ghosts...

As I recall, he didn’t have a copy of Ghosts (or Dawn of Rebellion) yet, and front-burnered Fully Operational ahead of the FaD books because of the ship crafting.

I could be remembering the details wrong, though.

I found using the manual download may cause less of an issue with losing past work. My guess is this has to do with the separation of the app and data folders.

The manual download ia just more work. The web install has never ruined a character

I've never lost custom data when the web install updates. That's part of the point of the DataCustom folder being separate from the main Data folder.

I'm using 2.3.0.0, I've copied most of the "Specialization" information over, and when I check the .xml files in "C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\SWCharGen\DataCustom\DataSet_Full DataSet\Specializations" the information is there, but when I go into the program and try to create a character, all I get is the message like :" Please see page 32 of the Special Modifications Sourcebook for details." Is there someplace I can tell the program where to go to get the data? I can not seem to find any sort of settings to do this. I've already used 'select all' in the option box to select all sources. I've input the data under the "Full Data Set" heading.

First, try clearing the cache. (From the launcher screen, click the "More Options" box. Additional buttons will show. Click the "Clear Cache" button.)

Next, if you have any additional data sets, their custom data can be overriding your "standard" custom data folder. Try temporarily moving the data set folders (and clearing the cache).

Finally, after clearing the cache, close the entire program and restart it.

I'm not sure where the 'standard' custom data folder you are talking about could be. I only know of the 'default' or Full DataSet settings... have not found any other locations, except in the install directory, and I've copied the information into that directory, just in case, with negative results.

I did what you suggested, and nothing changed. I specifically checked specializations that I had input, verified that the data was in the xml file, but nothing showed up in the program when I tried to bring up that specialization except the program standard point to the book. The Talent Trees I input seem to all have taken the information just fine, but not specialization files.

I have modified the CraftImprovements.xml a bit because I wanted my players to be able to put some upgrades more than once (They're getting pretty strong and so are the enemies). It works perfectly for Extra soaks and such, but for upgrades like Broad Utility on droids I can't figure how to allow the software to select the subsequent skills. When I press choose, the options pop-up only once. Anyone knows which files I should edit?

Sorry if I missed this in the thread, but is there any documentation for the XML character output? Seeing if I can find a coder to help me convert it to a format that a site like SWsheets would be able to read if they had an import feature.

I had your same problem. If you got into sources under options, select none then select all again. That refresh fixed it for me, also I am running it in portable mode. Good luck with it.

Did this... it unselected everything except core books, then reselected everything, but still most of the Career Specializations came up with the referral to book and page. it's funny as ONLY the career specializations seem affected, everything else seems to be there.

I have been away from these forums for a while, honestly The Last Jedi put such a bad taste in my mouth that I pretty much stopped everything Star Wars. But anyways, going to be starting a new campaign in the next couple months, once the one I am in ends.

So I want to take over, and I remember using SW Character Generator, by Ogg. Is this still being updated and used? Is there some other software out there, that can what Ogg's did? Is there something that FFG put out, even if I have to pay a monthly amount to access it would be great.

Thanks in advance for letting me know.

It is. He is a little behind at.the moment. He is way busier than when he started.

I just got a new computer, and I copied the character generator onto it, but there aren't any characters, NPCs, or custom data. Not that they won't load, as usual with new downloads, but they aren't there. It says the cache is empty. I can't find any documents on my old computer that have the information for the characters. Does anyone have any idea where they would be hiding?

Yeah....you need to copy your user profile from the previous install. That is where all that data is.

Would anyone be willing to share their custom datasets for the stuff not entered yet? The Padawan survivor spec specifically?

I FINALLY found it! It's in Users>Elemarth>AppData>Roaming>SWCharGen (AppData is an invisible folder, so if anyone is trying this, make sure you have your appearance and personalization on your control panel set to show invisible folders.)

I may have a noob question. We've used this program to make characters for the last several years, and it would print out with all the skills and dice to roll on the first page. We haven't used it for a year, but are coming back to start a new campaign, and the skills page is not in the print out. Has the program changed? Or am I missing something in getting that part printed? Everything is checked in the print options. Help?
