Another Character Generator

Has anyone been able to download it in the last week or so? I still can't get the installer.

The traffic has exceeded OggDude’s limit with his host. Once enough days have passed that the total traffic is below 500 GB, it will be available again.

Depending on the version you have, it may be necessary to uninstall your current version and install the new web install version. OggDude changed hosts out of necessity a few months ago, so your version may be looking to the old location for updates.

You are not the only one, mine went **** up and had to uninstall and now I get the same message as you.

I've been trying to download this for a week now, twice everyday, just to stumble uppon the limit upload page.

Looks like there is a big enough number of people interested in this. I think this is the generator around for playing and I'm willing to support this. So, I was wondering if there would be people interested in supporting? Have you thought about a Patreon or something like that? So that you could be able to pay for a higher upload limit

How do I uninstall the web install if I can't open the program? I can't seem to find an install location. Thanks.

Open Windows Control Panel, go to Programs, select the program you wish to uninstall and then click “uninstall.”

There's a donate button in the generator

FWIW, the donate button takes you to PayPal, to donate using OggDude's gmail account, which is oggdude42, @ the usual for gmail dot-com.

(This is me trying not to post his email address in the clear on the Internet - but if you can't get the character generator to open, you can't get to the Donate button, so if someone wants to donate but can't install or run it, now you can donate.)

Also for what it's worth, these instructions have been posted before, but it's a long thread, so: if you search your Windows installation drive for SWCharGenLauncher.exe, you can find that executable and create a shortcut that leads directly to it. Running it directly bypasses the web install update check, and lets the program run without that error. On my PCs, it's been in C:\Users\[Windows user ID]\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\[a bunch of letters and numbers]\[more letters & numbers]\swch..tion_[more numbers, more letters]\ - the letters & numbers seem to vary.

But don't delete whatever icon you're using to start it now. Eventually, when the bandwidth restrictions have eased and a new version comes out, you'll want to run the program with the update check, so you can get the new version.

Is there a way to get it, if your old computer crashed and you need the install files again?

I don't know of a way, unless someone has a copy of the complete manual install file somewhere & could share it. But then it wouldn't update automatically, as the web install does. Once OggDude's bandwidth use becomes un-maximized, you can download it from his site (the link is in his user profile , in the About Me tab) - until we overwhelm the bandwidth again, that is.

Is there that much traffic in wanting to download, Or does the autoupdate count as traffic when it checks version? (Just an uninformed question) I too have been trying to download the new version for a bout 3 weeks

The updates are 15 megs or so. multiply that by how many users? also the checking probably uses a few k.

I have an older version on my google drive if anybody intrested. its version 2.2.1.1

Perhaps if a large part of why bandwidth gets exceeded is the auto-update checking, maybe it'd be worth adding a selectable option so that the program only checks for updates on a more limited basis instead of every time it's fired up?

Maybe options to check once a week or perhaps more realistically once a month (given release schedules and OggDude's own availability), along with a choice to manually force a check for updates?

I may be! Do you have the web-install version or the manual download? I just grabbed a new computer and I think mine is pretty outdated. Regardless, I suppose I could just copy files over from my old PC but I sure would like something a bit more updated like 2.2.1.1.

God, yes please. I've been trying to update for weeks now. I'm still stuck on 1.7.0.1! I could really use it!

I was able to download the web installer today! Unfortunately, I think I found a bug. Here's the path to reproduce it:

Data Editor -> Item Attachments -> Add

The error it throws reads thusly:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

There was an error generating the XML document."

The Details button has a whole lot more info, but it's waaaaay too long for me to paste into this forum, I think.

Is it just me, or is it really a bug?

Another bug (don't think it's been flagged to be fixed):

For the Armor Templates, the Combat Armor template is listed as already having the Sealable quality. Given that one of the options to customize a set of constructed armor is to add the Sealable quality, pretty sure that Combat Armor shouldn't have it by default.

Most of the crafted armors are based on basic armor types.

Reinforced Clothing = Heavy Clothing

Light Armor = Padded Armor

Deflective Armor = Armored Clothing

Combat Armor = Laminate Armor

Segmented Armor = Heavy Battle Armor

They follow the same pattern for all these, crafted has half the price and one lower rarity, but all the stats match.

The qualities of the crafted armors aren't listed, but my starting point would be they match the base item.

Throughout the crafting rules there are examples of things you can add that can't be added to all the items of that type that can be crafted.

Not sure if I'm simply unable to find it, but it appears that the Raquor'daan Beastmaster (Lords of Nal Hutta, pg.77) isn't included in the Adversaries import.

As always, thank you Ogg for an absolutely essential game tool.

When crafting gadgets lore and other knowledge skills are not included as options, is this intentional?

Is it possible to add a log file to the Creator to record XP and Credit awards please?

Thank you for this program.

Hey Oggdude. I have a suggestion on how to help keep from overloading the downloads for your next release. Instead of having the link go directly to the download, add a page in-between that gives the version number so people know for sure the it's a newer version then they already have before downloading it. I know I've made this mistake and downloaded a couple of times thinking it was a newer version and I'm sure others have as well and those extra downloads add up.

Thanks again for all the hard work.
