Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

It looks like 2-handed improvement on crafting is being calculated after Lightweight is applied, if you add 2h to a 1 enc item, it goes up to 3 and ignores any points in lightweight.

Keep 'em coming! I'm done with Endless Vigil and just waiting to make any last minute fixes before doing the 2.0.1 release.

Minor typo:

Autopilot Droid Brain: "beckon call" instead of "beacon call"

P.S. Thanks for all excellent work!

Mine already says "beacon". Check your custom data :)

Just found a bug with crafting, for schematics (at least for melee weapon,) the lowered difficulty seems to cap the lower end at Easy (1 purple) rather then Simple (no purples.)

Did you correct adaptive programming when creating a droid?

You should be able to add multiple ranks to different skills. Currently it only lets you pick one skill and then it only gives you 1 rank regardless of how many times you add adaptive programming.

It's working for me. Tell me what you're doing. I create Armored Clothing (average difficulty), then buy two schematics and finish. When I go to craft again, the difficulty is simple (no purples). Checking the schematics list, it says the same thing:

  • In the Crafting dialog, Adaptive Programming will now bring up a skill list for each purchased effect. You can apply ranks to any of the skills multiple times if you want.

Not sure if I am missing it, but where do utilize the crafting rules in the generator? Is it in the character creator or data editor?

Character generator, at the equipment tab. Should be a button on the right hand side somewhere :)

Just went through and checked again. Seems that Blunt weapons starts at an Average difficulty instead of an Easy difficulty. It wasn't dropping to simple on a 2nd schematic but I did the restart thing and seems to be working. So it seems the difficulty is simply set 1 higher then it should be.

Now, that I can fix :)

Might be another bit I missed, but I'm not seeing any way to handle the effect of Cargo Clothing, which makes 3 items of enc 1 be effectively enc 0. IE you can hold more small stuff without issue. I did a check in the docs for cargo, but didn't see any mention.

I added a new 0 HP attachment that increases the enc threshold by 1, couldn't figure out how to add the effect that drops it down to 0 from 1?

Is there any way you could duplicate the Craft Item button, but in the companions section, but have it go into a specific companion's equipment rather than the player's? Or a dropdown within the craft form that allows you to pick the target inventory? We had made a gun for one of the droids, ended up just making a custom weapon on that droid instead, this was during 1.8, but just thought of it for easy swapping. I've not tried to do this through the GM tools yet.

Yeah, I had kind of glossed over cargo clothing. I think I had meant to revisit it, but forgot about it instead :) What I did was create a free attachment for it with three optional "Decrease Total Encumbrance" mods (it's a new descriptor). So, just select the mods as you need them and, if you really want to, keep track of the 1-enc items using the armor's notes. This will be in 2.0.1.

As for the other question, there is already a mechanism in place for doing item transfers, I had just neglected to add companions as transfer sources. They will now be listed in the source drop down when you do a transfer from the Equipment pane.

Does anyone have version 1.7 available for download? I’ve been running this on an ancient, non-Internet-connected Windows XP partition and the new version is (sensibly enough) XP-incompatible.

Sorry, my statement was ambiguous, in the book it is "beckon call".

You are both wrong, it should be 'bacon call'. Everyone knows that the best way to summon a droid brain is to use bacon.

Although on a serious note, I always assumed it was a typo in the FC book. The saying is 'Beck and Call' so it doesn't make any sense for it to say 'Beckon Call'. Admittedly many people misuse the phrase so I guess it's possible that the copy writer did too. It's really an interesting typo since in the context of the sentence both beacon call and beck and call work equally well. So one way or another it is a typo, but is it a spelling typo or a misphrased idiom.

You have a point! :P

A "beckon call" is an established part of Star Wars lore - Jorj Car'das and Lando Calrissian both had fully slave-rigged ships that were able to be summoned using the hand-held beckon call. This engaged the limited-sentience droid brain and got it to bring the ship to them, flying around obstacles as required.

Well I'll be damned. Beckon Call

Thanks for the correction.

I may not be able to make awesome applications, but I make myself useful as a massive Star Wars geek ;)

Of course, now I have an eye twitch from the fact that the mis-phrasing of an idiom has been canonized. Although Star Wars has a long tradition of misusing words and then explaining it away later as intentional. <cough> parsec <cough> So I guess it's nothing new.

Don't look at it as a mis-phrasing. Look at it as a clever pun!

And what's wrong with parsec? They obviously meant that the Falcon travelled the Kessel Run in the shortest distance ever...

*crickets*

Look! Shiny lightsabres!

Right.... :P

Anyway, @OggDude since a <shudders> Beckon Call is clearly a Star Wars thing, it seems like the text should likely be updated. Although admittedly it might cause less confusion to keep it how you have it.

Sooo much shame.

Don't want to mess with canon. It is now "beckon".
