Would it be a great deal of trouble to change how the character files are named? Fo example use the character's name instead of how it's presently done.
Another Character Generator
Regarding Dropbox and the generator, I had characters disappear a couple of three times, and I believe it happened when I left a character open on my home PC, and then opened the character generator on my laptop while gaming. I haven't experimented to confirm that, as I haven't had time to export every character and test. But since I've been careful to not have the generator open on both computers, I haven't had any vanishing characters.
Yeah, many applications are not designed to have multiple copies open at the same time, especially not on the same file that is shared across a network.
I would recommend avoiding that, if possible.
I'm having problems with my character generator. Every time I make a character and try to go back to level it up, it disappears. I've tried importing the character from the folder it's saved in and I get an error saying it is an invalid character. I've uninstalled it and cleared everything from my computer, even from the \appdata\roaming folder, and reinstalled it with the same problems. I've repaired my .net 4.0 extended program as well. I'm out of trouble shooting ideas, does anyone know what could help?
Is it just me or has OggDude not been online lately on the forums. Hope all is well. Can not wait for 1.8 to officially launch.

I think he has stated he has been busy with other things IRL right now.
Plus he's struggling getting 1.8 to work on windows 10. I too cannot wait, but you cannot rush an artist. I do hope he will continue to support the generator.
I've tried running the generator on only one computer at a time, and even tried manually uninstalling and reinstalling the files on my VM but I still am having issues. My VM also seems to be creating 0 kb XML files for new characters and then not recognizing the files it creates.
Just a question: how can i add a riding mount (ie a dewback) as a vehicle?
on Stay on Target show some rules to use them; i wonder if it's better to add them as Adversaries (and adding their "vehicle stats" in description) or if better to edit data and add them as "custom vehicle", specifying in description that stats are for personal scale (so Soak in lieu of Armor; WT in lieu of HT; Ranged/Melee Def in lieu of Shield, etc)
Or if there are a special section i totally miss about...
Also: there is a way to support your work?
it's great, and it's all fan-powered, so i'm guessing if there are a donation button i'm missing atm...
At the top of the character builder. To the left of the "Options", "Print", and "Save" buttons. It's labeled "$ Donate $".
Also his email address can be use for paypal.

I'm having kind of same problem. When I'm creating a character, everything seems ok, and I can print the character, but when I save it, the character XML file is empty. Check your XML files, are they ok. I'm having kind of weird setup (I'm running windows 7 on virtualmachine on mac) so that be the cause of my problems. In addiction to not being able to save, I get the welcome popup at every launch.
Hello, I created a character and saved it. Now when I try to open it I get an error and it won't. This is the error I get.

My problem was solved by installing .net framework 4.6.1. I don't know (yet) will it introduce some problems.
Hi Ogg. Long time listener, first time caller. I love the character generator and its fully amazeballs, but recently its been crashing and I was hoping you could help. When I save/import from my character generator and GM tools, I get the error that I've posted below and the program crashes. I've tried running through the basics: clearing my cache, making sure I'm running the latest .net, reinstalling, and running as windows 7. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

Just an update to my recent issue - apparently my VM wasn't running the latest version of .NET. I installed that and everything works just fine now!
Okay, so...
Last night, I booted up the GM tools app for the first time. It worked great. I decided I'd close it down and do some proper work on it today.
Now today, it doesn't work, simply crashes before it opens.
I've cleared the cache, I don't have SQL Server 4.0 installed and, basically, I'm at a loss of what to do now. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Hey, all. Loving Ogg's work, but I noticed a strange issue.
When trying to print a compact sheet for a character, whatever printer I use, even pdf printing, will invariably print the sheet all jagged and aliased. It looks fine in print preview, but doesn't come out fine.
Also, because of how print preview renders, 200% looks great.
I've searched this topic, and couldn't find any info on this problem. Has anyone run into/addressed this before?
Just wondering...
How does this character generator handle large creatures, specifically those exceeding Silhouette 2 and that are usually represented by ship-like stats?
The .NET framework is cross-platform now. Available for Mac and Linux.
At best I'd think you can build the CharGen cross-platform now. At worst is to get a copy of the code to someone who can compile it on the different platforms.
In either case it looks like Windows only can be a thing of the past?

Silhouette of a PC isn’t really a factor, except in environmental things where the GM makes it a factor, and that’s entirely outside of the purview of a tool like this.
NPCs that are that large also aren’t a problem, you just create them with the GM tools like you’d create any other NPC, and you give them a larger Silhouette. Again, it doesn’t really factor into anything until the GM decides it does, and then it’s up to the GM to decide how to handle that.
In some ways, I would say that this question is a lot like asking how a program to design shoes handles driving a car on the road — there’s not really that much in the way of overlap.
One is a program to design shoes, the other is a car being driven on the road.

There are a couple examples of creatures in official FFG books that don't have normal creature status, but rather have ship-style stats, like the Velkers on page 54 of The Jewel of Yavin , creatures whose toughness wouldn't be rated in personal-scale numbers, but in ship-scale numbers, and I was wondering if there was a system for creating creatures like that with this software.
It is not their larger Sil that gives them the vehicle stat line, it is the fact that the PCs are running into them in a vehicle that gives them the stat. In the follow-up to the AOR: Beginner's Game adventure the PCs can fight giant moon lizards the largest of which, while it should probably have vehicle stats does not as the PCs fight them on foot.
