Another Character Generator

I updated the generator for the books that I have purchased. I used the manual installation ala zip file.

Question, is there any way to update to the newer version of the generator without losing all of the data I input? If so, how do you do it? I would rather not have to go through doing that all over again.

What you'll need to do is create a new dataset, and then enter all your descriptive text there.

Otherwise, if you only update the core dataset, then any changes you made will be lost with the next update.

Just a small request/suggestion--

Would it be possible to up the cap for group credits?

Through a windfall of hot dice when the GM was counting on our gambler losing to high odds, our group finds itself with billions of credits. As the group's de facto treasurer, I'd love to keep track of it in GM Tools rather than a separate spreadsheet.

It all depends on how the changes were made. If someone edited the core dataset, then yeah — that would get blown away when you do the update. But if you add a dataset from another source, then that should get stored in the data folder which won’t get touched during an upgrade.

In Raptor’s case, it sounds like they should probably fall into the latter category.

Suggestion -- would it be possible to add a popup over certain things that shows where they come from elsewhere in creation? For example, looking at the skill list, if you moused over a die symbol on the right, it could show "this die came from X characteristic" or "this die is because of Y".

Your Character Generator however seems to replace the Defensive Training ranks with the melee defense of the person and not the defensive item quality of the weapon.

Point in case - I have a character with Armored Robes Soak 2 Defense 1 and his Light saber has no defensive item quality but the character has 2 ranks in Defensive Training. This should mean that when using the Light saber his ranged defense should be 1 and his melee defense should be 3. However the system show hims as having a Ranged Defense of 1 and a Melee Defense of 2.

The Generator is calculating it correctly.

Defense from different sources do NOT stack, armored robes is one source of Defense, Defensive Training is another.

I am suddenly having a problem where one specific character can no longer be loaded by the character generator. It just says "There was a problem loading the character." Any idea how to fix it?

I am a great fan of your system, great and easy to use.

Just one thing I have notice "Defensive Training" in the rules states that it gains ranks in defensive item quality of Light sabers, melee weapons or brawl weapons (This replaces ranks in defensive the weapon already has).

Your Character Generator however seems to replace the Defensive Training ranks with the melee defense of the person and not the defensive item quality of the weapon.

Point in case - I have a character with Armored Robes Soak 2 Defense 1 and his Light saber has no defensive item quality but the character has 2 ranks in Defensive Training. This should mean that when using the Light saber his ranged defense should be 1 and his melee defense should be 3. However the system show hims as having a Ranged Defense of 1 and a Melee Defense of 2.

Is this a small error in the character generator or am i reading the rules incorrectly for defensive training?

The Generator is calculating it correctly.

Defense from different sources do NOT stack, armored robes is one source of Defense, Defensive Training is another.

Yeah, the latest dev ruling is that different sources of defense don't stack. This can be found in the Dev Answered Questions thread.

It's also worth mentioning that the whole "does defense from different source stack?" has been under review by the devs for a while, and we don't have a final verdict.

I had an issue on Sunday, where after my gaming session, I went into the GM tools to award the group their experience that they had earned. when next we went to look at the characters all 6 of the character that were granted experience had their race changed by the program somehow. I suddenly had a party of 5 kushiban, instead of a twi'lek, a verpine, a Corellian human and 3 humans.

Not too hard to fix, just a little mind boggling that it happened.

Any thoughts?

Just to report, there seems to be a limit to the number of skills and talents a Nemesis can have and still print properly in an Encounter. With my players sitting at around 750XP, I've had to create a pretty insane Big Bad Guy™ - so insane, in fact, that when I create his stat block, it's over 10,000 pixels long. When I include him in an Encounter, then attempt to print the Encounter, the print preview hangs for quite some time, then shows a 57 page preview with some of the Big Bad Guy's™ stats on the first page... and 56 pages marked "Notes".

Another good update. Just waiting patiently for 'Special Modifications' to be added. I homebrewed in the specs and talents myself, but I kinda feel odd using homebrewed in spec trees.

Love this program, and we use it all the time in our campaigns. However, lately, Norton Anti-Virus keeps flagging it as unsafe, and removes several files from it the moment I install it. :/

I know it's a silly strange request... but...

there is in the air the possibility of a future "android client" for the same data?

i don't mean a full fledged android porting of the program, but something who can open the savefile of chars/npc/base/etc and print it on screen on easy-to-read form (they are xml, so don't think is a huge problem)

i use the Kindle Fire while playing and most of time windows pc is above extreme range, and only way to consult PC is if i had time to print on pdf and exporting them.

a reader client would be better 'cause i could save PC/npc/vehicles/etc on cloud and then open it from anywhere...

Obligation has some idiosyncrasies as part of its design. Read the section on it in the FAQ for an in-depth explanation of how it works. No, your obligation doesn't all need to come from one entry, it's just that the benefits you get are based on the starting size for the group.

I am having a problem with the generator in that every time I want to make a new character, the Pilot Specialization is present and cannot be deleted, even when I purchase a new one. Still cant delete.

Is there something I'm missing? I dont think it always did this.

Assuming you have Edge of the Empire selected as a source, a new character defaults to a Smuggler career, and the main specialization as a Pilot. You can't remove Pilot because it's the spec that has been select for the selected career.

Just go to the Career pane, select whatever career you want, then select one of the specializations for that career. When you go to the Specialization pane, you'll see it in the list. You can then add any other specialization you want to in the Specialization pane, or remove any added specializations. You can never remove the primary specialization from the Specialization pane, however. That needs to be changed from the Career pane.

Fantastic program and it helps me a lot as a beginner of this rpg.
