Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The ECM medpac found in Dangerous Covenanents doesn't list its mechanical benefit of reducing the difficulty of all rolls to heal critical injuries by one.

Some of the older gear may not have their features because I added mod capability to gear after some of the books came out. Anyway, I added the two mods to the ECM-598 backpack (from Enter the Unknown), so it'll be in the next release.

Oops! I was thinking of the cerebral stabilizer in Dangerous Covenants.

Can you add the print button to the "Add or Modify Adventuring Group" screen? It'd be nice to preview the changes on the printout without having to exit the modification screen and reload it.

Thank you so much OggDude!

Great update. Love the program.

Need to add more talent descriptions wIth the last 3 or so books released.

I have a question, when I build a character and start , lets say as gadgeteer and then later pick up a jedi class as a second class I should get a force-rating of 1. From that point I should be able to pick up force powers. the problem is, the force powers option doesnt pop up when i pick the jedi-class. u know how to fix it? or what im doing wrong?

It's working as intended.

Per Force and Destiny, you only get Force Rating 1 if you start with a FaD career. If you start with Bounty Hunter as your career, then you'd have to pick up either Force Exile or Force Emergent to get Force Rating 1.

ok thank you sir :D

Could you add in an easy to access inventory screen for ships? In the current game I'm in, the party has purchased a lot droids and have them on one of the ships we own. These droids do not appear as part of the ship and they don't appear on the character sheets. The information could be part of the GM Tools for the group.

Not sure if I am missing it, but are the new Armor creation rules included in the Generator? If yes then where to do I find them?

Also found a bug. One of my PCs has been rewarded Force Points under GM Grants. However when rewarded a force rating of 1 no force powers show up. When rewarded a Force rating of 2 only Bind and Battlemind show up. Just to test when rewarded Force Rating of 3 BInd, Battlemind, and Protect/Unleash show up. Seems the bug is that only force powers that have a prerequisite of 2 or 3 are showing up when giving GM Grant.

Update:

Just tried a new character. Seems the other characters file is either corrupt or there is a bug that isn't consistent. When trying with the new character it worked fine. Tested and did exactly the same thing with both. Just annoying cause if it is a corrupt character file need to rewrite the entire character.

OggDude said earlier they were not included, and frankly there's really no need to include them.

The PC makes their checks, and then you just add the custom-built armor via the Data Editor.

First, make sure you have a the books checked off as sources under the options.

Secondly, some powers do require a certain Force rating before they can be purchased.

Also, try clearing your cache. Then restart the program. That should do it.

Yes I'm saying with a Force Rating two all of the pc force powers that are only needing rating one are gone

That means even the basic books everything all gone except for powers requiring force rating two and three are still showing which is really weird

Will try clearing cache

I've run into a bit of a problem when creating a character with the program. When I try to add additional obligation for the extra creds/xp, the check boxes do not work and the text for them remains greyed out. I've tried everything I can think of and nothing is working for me.

look at your starting obligation. Your final obligation needs to be bigger than the starting obligation. Starting obligation should be set to what your starting group size calls for in the book.

found error: bola carbine is supposed to be heavy , not light ranged

Speaking of the next release, I picked up Lead by Example today. I'll probably make an interim bug fix release to deal with the few issues I've corrected, then tackle LbE for 1.6.2. So far, what I have is:

  • Equipped armor with an encumbrance greater than 3 was not having it's encumbrance reduced properly when equipped. It should now reduce properly.
  • If you added a morality strength using the default pairing that wasn't in the Keeping the Peace pairing, switched to the Keeping the Peace pairing, and then attempt to change the added strength, an exception would occur. This will no longer happen.
  • When editing groups multiple times in the GM Tools, the top graphic would be X'ed out and an exception would occur. This no longer happens.
  • Added the two mechanical features of the ECM-598 medical backpack from Enter the Unknown.
If there's something I'm missing, please let me know.

Sadly, I am also beset by the "encumbrance of armor not being reduced when worn" bug.

Could you add in an easy to access inventory screen for ships? In the current game I'm in, the party has purchased a lot droids and have them on one of the ships we own. These droids do not appear as part of the ship and they don't appear on the character sheets. The information could be part of the GM Tools for the group.

You can transfer gear to your ships using the inventory screen. For a character, you can transfer your inventory to any ship that either you own or is owned by a group you belong to. For a group, you can transfer group inventory to ships that belong to the group. You can similarly transfer between bases, groups, and other characters, as well.

Yes, I know, but when you go to view the actual ships the inventory isn't listed. I had this come up when trying to track down a large amount of war droids the group purchased and they didn't show up on the ship's listing.

I think I finally figured this one out. It had to do with the dictionary lookup that I added to master data. The lookup can sometimes get out of sync with the actual data. After going through the code, I noticed that even after adding a new power, it was saying that there were no powers :) , again, because of the lookup being out of sync.

The solution is that the lookup has to be re-created when it gets out of sync, which I do in a number of places. However, I looked at the Add code and, sure enough, I had forgotten to re-create the lookup when it couldn't find an item that was supposed to be there.

Short version: it should be fixed for the next release.

Clearing cache worked. Thanks

Look at the FAQ. I do a whole writeup about obligation and duty there. The chargen works per RAW. The problem is that RAW is a bit weird and people have problems understanding it.

They're supposed to show up as "Stored Gear" or "Stored Weapons", etc. I looked at the code and there was an issue I saw with saving the character. What might have happened is that you did the transfer and you thought everything was saved properly and it wasn't, and then you loaded the character again. If this is what happened, just click Save after you do the transfer to make sure the character is actually saved. Next release will have the fix for this.

Here's what I have for the interim bug fix version. I want to get this release out before I start working on Lead by Example. If there's anything that's missing, or if you find anything else, please let me know.

  • An issue could arise where an older non-Force character is given a Force rating via GM grant, and no Force powers show up in the Force power pane. This was an issue with the dictionary look-up feature added recently to the master data. This should no longer happen.
  • When performing an equipment transfer in the character generator, the character wasn't being saved properly, which could cause items to disappear if they were removed from a group or ship. The character is now saved properly, so this should no longer happen.
  • The E5 Blaster Carbine and the Bola Carbine were incorrectly set to use Ranged Light. They now properly use Ranged Heavy.
