Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Ogg, I think I found a bug. According to the book, you reduce the encumbrance of armor by 3 when you equip it, so only armors of enc 4+ should impact your encumbrance when you put them on.

I added a Heavy Clothing and equipped it, and it showed my encumbrance use as going up by 1. I expected that to happen when I checked "carry" but I also expected it to go away once I checked "equip" but it didn't.

This was previously identified and per OggDude will be corrected in the next build.

Oh and, I hate asking this, but I will: if anyone has a filled out RAW version (all text and rules) for all the talents and force powers (and skills and the rest if you could be bothered) and would like to share, feel free to PM me  I know it's asking a lot, but this is one of the few things I still haven't found time to do... :(

Okay, cool. I guess I shoulda searched first. :D

I'd swear this used to work correctly, too.

Need some help with translations into Spanish, French, and German (for Keeping the Peace):

Default Paired Weakness

Alternate Pairings (or Alternate Pairs)

Pairing Identifier (or Pair Identifier)

Morality Pairing

Alternative Pairs

Add Additional Crystal with No HP Cost Mod (this is for an item descriptor, hence the "Mod" after it)

Add <number> Additional Crystal(s) with no HP Cost

Thanks everyone!

Is there a way to transfer the text i have added without moving over any of the powers or talents i have added

Just transfer everything, then open the Data folder and go into DataCustom. Depending on if you added them to the main custom data or to a data set, just remove the appropriate Talents.xml, ForceAbilities.xml, and remove the Force powers from the Force Powers directory. It'll revert talents and Force powers back to their default (what comes with the installation).

tried this and the files refused to save after I was done.

then disassociated themselves from the program.

not a big deal i backed them up before I tried but still did not work.

P.S. I was using Notepad++.

It did, as the bug is a recent one that cropped in during one of the last few updates.

Im not sure of this has been brought up but is there plans to allow for incorporating Duty/obligation/morality together? I'm starting a campaign and having my players have something from each book. I do really like the look of the sheet and I'm appreciative that it is being done

My GM told me to use the GM grant to give my character a FR of 1 and I did so. The Force powers tab popped up, but when I go there, I can't select any of the Force powers (there's a blank drop down box where you would normally select them). Is this a known bug?

Also, is there a place I can fork the source? I'm quite handy with .NET and could easily fix these issues on my own if I had the source.

Make sure that all of the source books are selected in the Options tab, and then try clearing the cache. I ran briefly into this and found that clearing cache fixed it.

Clearing the cache fixed it. Thanks!

There isn't any possibility of turning this into an OS neutral web app is there? Sure would be sweet!

It is written in .Net for Windows.

I believe that there is a .Net implementation for the web, but then that would require that OggDude run a web server for this purpose, and I think that would be highly unprofitable for him. And even then that server would get totally buried with all the people wanting to use it for this purpose.

Now, if you wanted to pay a monthly maintenance fee for this service, depending on how much you (and others) were willing to spend, that might be more feasible. But I’ve been in this business for many years, and this kind of thing is a lot more expensive and a lot more labor-intensive than most people realize.

Not at all. Oggdude used this app to improve his .net programming skills. So it requires .net thus it is windows only. As making the program OS neutral will require from the ground up programming from scratch.

Already in the program. The GM tools also do a party sheet including all of them.

why are you editing them using Notepad++ instead of using the included data editor?

because the included data editor is not working

keeps giving me errors every time i try to delete or modify something.

Then that is your problem and you need to fix that. I would back up everything and do a clean install.

That would mean my 2nd clear install and reentering all the data descriptions for a 3rd time.

Which is why I said back up the data. You need to get a working program first. Then you can import the old data. But if the program is not currently working you need a clean slate. As clearly something is wrong with the data as you can't use the data editor.

already did that didn't work

Run the launcher and open the data folder. Rename "DataCustom" to something else, then try running the data editor. You should have no customization. Go to Careers and update the description of a career. Hit save and see if that works. If it works, run the character generator and select that career to see if the description change took effect.

If all that works, then you have a problem with your custom data. You could try copying one XML file at a time from your renamed DataCustom to the current DataCustom to narrow down which file is giving you issues.

What error are you getting when you try saving something in the data editor?

Strange situation....

I've deleted everything from my other hard drives regarding the character generator, installed the new 1.6.0.0 version. (Downloaded the zip file.) However, when I set the data location, and launch the GM Tools, there are no adversaries in the list.

to test this, I downloaded the app on my laptop, (zip folder again) put it on my thumb drive, set the data location, and all the adversaries load.

Clicking on DataInfo in the launcher on my PC shows 0 files. I've done everything I could think of to get the data working. Both my Laptop and PC are running windows 10. Suggestions?

Edit: Actually, I was wrong. The Adversaries that were loaded where the ones imported from the files while clicking on import. Seems there is only roughly 72 loaded.

Some obvious things: I'm guessing you had a data folder with valid adversaries, characters, custom data, etc? Did you back it up somewhere? Did you change the data directory to point to this directory, or is it pointing to the default location? Did you clear the cache? Do characters come up, or custom data, or is just adversaries that are missing?

Hey!
Thanks alot for the software and all the work! Been using it for a while.
Any idea about when we expect an update with content from Keeping the Peace ?

(Sorry if it's already been asked :S)

Great Program.

FYI:

One bug I found is if you start as a non force sensitive specialization, and then purchase a force sensitive specialtization. The force powers button does not appear. It only shows if start with a force sensitive specialization.

It's very possible for someone to not be force sensitive and then by a force sensitive specialization after the fact, thus earning force level 1 and the ability to purchase a force power.
