Another Character Generator

I really thought the worn encumbrance weight had a "to a minimum of 1“ caveat. Does it not?

*edit*

I'm actually not seeing that in the book so I'm wrong.

Edited by CrunchyDemon

Far as I know, the encumbrance of worn armor can drop to zero, so that things like heavy clothing can be worn without affecting the wearer's encumbrance value.

Far as I know, the encumbrance of worn armor can drop to zero, so that things like heavy clothing can be worn without affecting the wearer's encumbrance value.

This is being fixed for the next release:

  • The -3 worn armor encumbrance adjustment was being applied like a standard adjustment. That is, if the value was 1 or more, any adjustment would bring it to a minimum of 1. The -3 armor adjustment, however, can bring encumbrance to 0. This is fixed. Additionally, if a stack of armor was equipped, the adjustment would be applied to the entire stack. It is now properly applied to only one item in the stack.

Another issue I have found is while trying to add the new force trees from keeping the peace I am unable to mode the Guardian career to link them to it.

this is the same of anything on the CC that i hit the modify or remove button for.

Do you mean specialization trees? And does the edit career dialog come up properly? And what is the "CC"?

I believe I may have found a defect, though my memory is not completely intact on this one.

I have an existing Force and Destiny character with Defensive Training for multiple trees, and this bonus is no longer applied once the character equips a Lightsaber.

I confirmed this isn't a stacking issue by creating a new character with no other source of Melee Defense and buying Defensive training in the Makashi Specialization and equipping a basic Lightsaber.

I really do seem to recall this used to add the Melee Defense bonus to the character sheet.

I noticed this to, but thought it might have been deliberately removed, as the program was incorrectly allowing multiple instances of Defensive to stack, when clarification from Sam Stewart is that they don't.

So for instance, if you had a pair of vibroknives equipped and had the Defensive Training talent, the program would previously give you Melee Defense 2 when it should only be Melee Defense 1.

And since Defensive is a situational trait anyways (you need to have the weapon actively in hand to gain its benefit), it might just be simpler to not have the program automatically include the effects of Defensive or Deflection.

Obviously it's OggDude's call to make, but I for one don't mind that Defensive/Deflection don't automatically get added in.

Absolutely agreed it didn't work in version 1.5.0 in line with recent clarification. Re-reading the release notes I think my second use case (being the easier to reproduce one) should have incremented Melee Defense from 0 to 1, however.

Snipped from Release notes.

"The calculation for determining your final melee and ranged defense values was incorrect based on a recent developer-answered question. Now, only one equipped item will contribute to melee or ranged defense at a time. For instance, if your armor gives you a total of 1 melee and 1 ranged defense, an equipped melee weapon (maybe a shield) contributes 2 melee defense, and an equipped lightsaber has 1 melee and 3 ranged defense, your final defense values will be 2 melee (from the melee weapon) and 3 ranged defense (from the lightsaber), assuming you always have the weapon and lightsaber in-hand during combat. "+ Defense" mods (such as from the Defensive or Deflection qualities, or from talents) only stack for a particular item, not for your final defense values. Soak values will still stack, with the highest figured soak from each of four "source types" (armor, cybernetics, weapons, gear) contributing to the final value."

I believe Defensive Training should have increased the Lightsaber's Defensive Quality from 0 to 1 which should have resulted in a Melee Defense of 1 when it was "equipped" for the final Melee Defense value. Of course this is all dependent on my reading comprehension.

EDIT: It does grant the Defensive +1 Quality to the Basic Lightsaber when it is Carried or Equipped, but it does not reflect in the final Defense values. Weapons which natively have Defense, like the Lightsaber Pike, do.

When I try to mode the career to add the new Specialization to it.

CC= Character Creator.

I have a quick question, where is the data saved? I did a bit of work, filling in abilities and powers. Now I want to put this on the lap top when I travel. But I honestly have no idea where everything is. Thanks in advance and sorry if this was already answered, 275 pages it hard to search.

By the way, amazing software!

Use the export button. It's on the very first page where you select among your characters. That creates an .xml file that you can save to a thumb drive and then put back in with the import button on that same screen.

I've been gaming across devices and I've not had any problems. Then again, all my devices are Windows-based and I have updated them all to the same version of OggDude's generator.

if you're referring to the Data Editor, then the "export" button on that first screen is grayed-out. I hand-jammed the Iktotchi race, the Armorer specialization, and Segmented Armor in there. That data travels just fine when I export my character from the character editor, but from the Data Editor program, that button is grayed-out and I don't know what to do.

On the launcher, click the Data Folder button. It'll open up the current folder in which the data is stored.

The Export button at the top of the data editor is for exporting the current data set. If you don't have a data set selected, it'll be grayed out.

To export all of your personal data (including characters, custom data, adversaries, etc), click the Backup button. You can select exactly what you want backed up and it'll create a ZIP file with everything in it. You can then use that file with a new install on another system by clicking Restore. Note that it's a good idea to periodically do a Backup just in case something happens to your data (like a hard drive crash).

A better solution is to keep your data on a cloud service, then change your data folder to the local cache directory for the service. That way, your data is always available to you, no matter what computer you're using. And, if you give members of your group access to the directory, you can all share the exact same data.

I can't seem to figure out how to reset the program to defaults. Or erase the data I've have in the application..i have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Five times with a fresh install. But it still has all the information I don't want in the creator. Short of manually erasing everything a slow and long process entry by entry is there a way to do it all at once? One thing I noticed is that the bind force power is not available to select when making a force sensitive character. Can we add that in a future date..or is there something I screwed with that deleted it as a selection during the character creation process....I'm pretty confused and not sure how to even fox this mess I've made of the program

Bind requires a 2+ Force rating, so if you only have a FR of 1, it won't show up in the list.

The easiest way of setting your data (and not characters, encounters, etc) back to default is to go into your data folder from the Launcher and rename the "DataCustom" directory to something else. The next time you run an app, "DataCustom" will be recreated with nothing in it, so only base data that comes with the apps will be available.

Ah ok thanks for the heads up, and the info on the bind ability.

We have Google Drive, will that work?

How exactly can one do this? A lot of my players are using this and being able to use one database would be aces.

We have Google Drive, will that work?

Yes. I use Google drive to have a shared data set among my many devices. If your entire party has access to that Google drive, then simply point the builder to that drive as the data source.

Ok, not to sound totally computer enept, but how do you link it to Drive exactly?

Click the Data Path button on the launcher. Click the Choose button on the Data Location screen. Navigate to the Google drive folder that holds all the data (usually named SWCharGen and a path similar to C:\Users\ACCOUNTNAME\Google Drive\SWCharGen). Click OK.

Now, instead of the default path for custom data, the app will look in that folder. Prior to selecting this folder, though, it's a good idea to copy the data into it from the existing location. That way there's data there and the program won't crap out on you...

Hello,

In the use case I was testing it was only the Basic Lightsaber as equipment at all.

Exact Reproduction steps (At least for me!):

1) Create New Character

2) Career, Select Mystic and Makashi Duelist

3) Specializations, Buy up to Defensive Training

4) Equipment, Add Basic Lightsaber

5) Click Equip for the Basic Lightsaber

6) Melee Defense remains at 0 (In my case)

The oddity here is that the Basic Lightsaber does not have the Defensive 1 quality until Equipped or Carried, and it loses that property when not Equipped or Carried, so that piece is working right.

This also will work if I add an attachment which grants the Defense 1 quality (Lorrdian Crystal + Mods for example).

This also works if I use a weapon which has a native Defensive bonus.

It almost looks like Defense added via Talents to equipment (I tested Sixth Sense and Superior Reflexes, those work) isn't being factored correctly to raise the "Character" Defense values, but all other sources are working correctly.

Autopilot Droid Brain is supposed to be 6,000 credits, not 7,500 credits. The Astrogation Droid Brain is 7,500. The Autopilot is also rarity 5, not 6.

I created an Adversary using the GM Tools. It is stacking all of the Defensive/Deflection with Armor and such.

The equipment loadout is as follows:

Armored Robes

Personal Deflector Shield

Lightsaber: Curved Hilt, Lorrdian Gemstone with two Quality Delfection Mods and one Quality Defensive Mod

Lightsaber: Curved Hilt, Krayt Dragon Pearl

This results in the character having Ranged Defense 5 and Melee Defense 7.

Creating, essentially, the same character as a PC results in having Ranged Defense 2 and Melee Defense 2.

I believe I may have found a defect, though my memory is not completely intact on this one.

Checked it out of curiosity and you're right. It adds the quality (Defensive) to the saber but it's not factored in final calculation. Perhaps it's about the order in which the program does things? And "natural" Defensive and Deflection work perfectly.

Apologies, I know how to set the data path, my curiosity is how do I set the path to a cloud like storage system e.g. Google Drive? How do I link it to a web/IP address?

I do not have a Google Drive folder on my machine. Is that something within the settings of Google Drive that I need to setup?

NVM, figured it out.
