Another Character Generator

Another question : I upgraded my version to 1.4.4.0 (and since then to 1.4.5.0) ; but it seems all Fly casual specializations aren't linked to the smuggler careers. I have to check manually all Fly casual specializations' boxes. The same thing happens with the Stay on target ace's specializations. Is this a bug on my computer / version or does anyone have notice the same ?

RNST

Not sure what you mean by "boxes". You mean in the Options dialog?

I select the Careers menu when in the data editor. Then I choose Modify for the smuggler career ; a dialog window appears where I can select which specialization is linked to the smuggler career. Only the EotE specialization boxes are checked for the smuggler. And the ace career only with the AoR specializations alike.

Hope I succeed to make it clearer... ^_^

It sounds like you may have already customized those careers. If you made any changes to those careers other than just changing the descriptions, they'll be used in place of the stock careers. If they have "CustItem" in their listing, do a "Remove" and choose the option to keep descriptions (if you added any). That will revert them back to stock and the new specializations will show up.

Actually I only changed the name from english to french as well as completing the description ; does that mean that I have to choose between translating and updating ? :(

Changing the name will make it custom. Just do a remove on the change, keeping the description, then change the name again.

Bug report. i just added a lightsaber crystal to a lightsaber. Dantari...It says base damage of seven. I have it in a shoto hilt. I should have a final damage of 6 not 9. So it seems the shoto hilt is not subtracting one. and the app seems to be adding my 2 brawn to my damage.

Just tried it. Used a shoto hilt and added a dantari crystal. Damage was 6. Added a +1 damage mod, damage became 7. Shows up that way on the character sheet as well. So I'm not sure what you did to get the problem :)

Sorry if this has been covered before (and in 200+ pages I'm guessing it has), but I'm having a problem with xp not adding correctly. I have two versions of the program (version 1.1.2.0 and 1.4.5.0) because I was afraid updating would wipe out my characters. The characters' xp totals are the same in both versions, and both have the same talents and skills ranks, but the newer version reads as having 30 unused xp and the older only 5.

Is the problem coming from having two versions going or is there an error in the newer version somewhere?

It probably comes from a change a few iterations back dealing with non-career skills becoming career skills. Did that PC have anything like that?

That's probably exactly what it is. 1.4.5.something :) added support for keeping track of non-career ranks in skills. What was happening before is that you'd buy non-career ranks, then you'd pick up a new spec that made that non-career skill a career skill. This would cause a refund of XP (much like what you're seeing). The newer versions will keep track of how many non-career ranks you bought before the skill became a career skill. That way, the XP calculation will be correct.

I know a lot of people are worried about their characters vanishing between updates, but this just won't happen. The data directory defaults to a folder nestled within your user's application data directory. It's completely separate from the install. Even if you change the data directory to some other location, as long as it's not the install directory (that is a very bad thing and should never be done), your data is not touched. The data that comes with the install is merged with your own custom data when you run the apps. Nothing is overwritten.

so, I seem to be having some sort of issue with the starting obligation. I can't ever seem to get more than the 5 obligation ones to work. am I missing something?

Also, had their been a newer release with thigns pulled from the other books into the program yet, like Lords of Nal Hutta, and Fly Casual?

Obligation functions as designed. There's a section explaining how it works in the FAQ. And yes, the latest release supports all the new books.

Yeah, I picked up one or two Skills when I added a second Specialization. So how do I get the xp to calculate correctly now? Award negative xp to the character?

I had never updated the program before, so I was being extra cautious. Doubly so since I have no physical record of this character that has 300+ xp.

Thanks for your hard work, btw. Excellent program and has made playing and running the game so much easier.

Hey, oggy, I do not know if this has been commented on yet, because >202 pages, but the force heal/harm base power in your character builder costs 20exp rather than the normal 10exp. Is this a problem with the generator, or has there been an update to the beta pdf for force and destiny that upped the price?

I just had another weird bug. I was in the GM Tools, creating an adversary. I went to characteristics, added a brawn... and it just kept climbing, adding about 3 a second. Clicking on the subtract button reversed the automatic changes - by the time I got the program to quit brawn was at -127ish. I had to force quit, at which point I saw a flashing parade of "Microsoft .Net Framework" boxes appearing and vanishing.

I had Chrome, GM Tools, and iTunes running... so nothing out of the ordinary.

Yup, one of the updates upped the cost to 20 XP.

I've had this happen once, too, and I have no idea what caused it. If you can figure out how to reliably replicate it, let me know :)

I think what causes this to happen is if you rapidly click (akin to a double or triple click) on the "+" button. I've had this happen a few times, and not just with characteristics, but also wound and strain threshold.

Only workaround I've seen is to click once for each increase and wait for the program to register that increase so that it doesn't get snagged in the loop you've mentioned.

First off.

Love your program. Yo have definitely put a lot of work into and it shows.

When selecting the Ace Rigger's Signature Vehicle ability (e.g. on the Xwing), I noticed the additional Specializations (Bolstered Armor, Tuned Maneuvering Thrusters, etc) do show up on the vehicles' stat sheet if you have already made upgrades or attachments to the ship. However, if used on a unmodified (clean) ship and then select Signature Vehicle plus the additional specializations, everything shows up. Is that intentional?

Also, the specialization Larger Project does not show up or seem to affect the selected Signature Vehicle. For the Xwing it stays at Silhouette 3 and it does not mention that its Silhouette can be upgrade by 2 in the vehicle's stat block. Nor can you upgrade weapons/attachments using a Silhouette 5 as your base line. Am I missing something on how Larger Project works? I have the book but it is silent on how the ability should be applied. Meaning does the ship actually grow in size or can one just mount larger weapons/attachments to the ship? I am thinking it is later as an Xwing the size of a frigate/corvette is bit... freak'n weird.

And one last thing. I am confused on how Linked and Hard Points work. I believe a Twin Medium Laser Cannon (Linked 1) takes up 2 HPs. If that is true, then when I downgrade a weapon system from a Twin Medium Laser Cannon (2HP) to a Quad Laser Cannon (1HP), I cannot add a new weapon system (e.g. proton torpedo launcher) without it taking up one of the normal available HPs. I should be able to down grade a weapon system that takes up 1 or more HPs, get those HPs back and be able to use them for other weapon systems or attachments. That is, unless I have completely missed on how HPs work.

Thanks again for all of your time and energy into this program. It is really awesome.

Signature Vehicle by default lets you select up to a Sil 3 vessel to call your own. Large Project lets you select Sil 4 or later 5 to be your signature vessel.

By default, you can pimp that X-Wing.

With Large Project 1, you can pimp a Falcon

With Large Project 2, you can make a Wayfarer super super shiny.

Large Project does not affect the current size of the ship, it just tells you the maximum size you could choose for your signature vehicle.

Oohhh. I totally did not read it that way.

I thought you could increase the current silhouette by +1/+2, not that the you could choose a bigger ship.

I get it now.

been having some issues lately with the program. I have no idea if it is your program or my computer. But I can no longer print directly from the program to my printer. I can print to a PDF then use my printer. Minor issue

secondly I have errors now with the GM tools, especially if I am modifying ships

here is the error report

Upgrade to the latest version and see if that solves your problems.

so, I seem to be having some sort of issue with the starting obligation. I can't ever seem to get more than the 5 obligation ones to work. am I missing something?

Also, had their been a newer release with thigns pulled from the other books into the program yet, like Lords of Nal Hutta, and Fly Casual?

So the obligation thing always seems to trip people up. The box that says "Starting Obligation" is how much obligation every player in your game is supposed to start with based on the table in the CRB. Then, once you take obligation over that amount, it unlocks the extra options. However, you can only benefit from doubling your obligation, not more.

So if starting obligation is 5, and you go to 10, you can choose a 5 obligation option. If starting obligation is 10, you could go up to 20 and then have all options available.

I've had this happen once, too, and I have no idea what caused it. If you can figure out how to reliably replicate it, let me know :)

This happens to me ALL THE TIME. I just chaulk it up to using your program on a dying laptop that can barely run.

Oohhh. I totally did not read it that way.

I thought you could increase the current silhouette by +1/+2, not that the you could choose a bigger ship.

I get it now.

Question : would Chewbacca pick the Millemium Falcon as his Signature Vehicle, does that means he has to achieve 3 ranks in Larger Project before this to be effective ? I assume Larger Project 1 allows you to improve a silhouette 2 vehcle... (the Larger Project definition says "... 1 higher than normal per rank...")

Hi Oggy

I am running a SW campaign in which one of my PC has a huge size (1 larger than any other character) ; I'd like this size to allow him a higher encumbrance capacity. At this time, I have to duplicate any existing weapon in the database (or whatever else he carries) and affect it a lower encumbrance value (for example, the character may use a heavy mounted blaster rifle as easily as a normal human would with a blaster rifle...).

The rules only allow a character to improve her maximum encumbrance capacity through a higher strength value, but I don't think dealing with just pure Strength is the right way to do. Following that rule would mean that Chewie is so strong (Brawl 5 ?) that he can carry 3 more knives than an average human (Brawl 2)...

Would it be possiblle in the character sheet to adjust the encumbrance threshold ?

Oops

I've just seen the description of what is a Signature vehicle...

Next time I'll think twice before posting... :)

Stop me if you'd hear this one before.

I only bring this up because my character currently has two of these cybernetics. But, I noticed that the cybernetics from the Beyond the Rim adventure book on page 66; Energized Claws, Leg or Arm Enhancement, and Vision Cycling, are not in the database.

Did you omit them on purpose, because you can only get them if you play the adventure?

Regardless, it doesn't matter much to me as your program allows me to add them myself.
