Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I think tomorrow I'll do a third bug-fix release to fix the "Save" issue with the data editor. I could see that problem becoming very frustrating, and we've already had at least 3 people run afoul of it.

Unless there's some other problem, it looks like this version, otherwise, has been very stable. If there's any other bugs or oddities that anyone's seen, now's the time to tell me :)

The only other trouble I have had is the print gold bars function does not seem to work,,,

I think the only other bug is I haven't found the pizza order feature... I think it would come in handy on game days. =)

Uh... wha dat? :)

Well, it's there :)

Here's a hint, but it might give it away... What sizes do pizzas come in? ;)

No bugs or oddities, but I was hoping you could implement an updater to your generator. Downloading 78 MB seems a bit much for a small bug patch + a new book of rules etc...

I know its not as simple as that but I would love to see that in the future. In the mean time keep up the great work. I love this tool.

Well that's an easy one :) Look at the "Web Install" links in my signature. They do what you want, and will automatically detect updates and only download the changes.

Okay...so...I finally got around to looking at this thread and have been kicking myself for not doing so earlier.

Oh my LORD OggDude what a job you've done here. Much respect. But I have a question and forgive me if I'm a tad disinclined to peruse 200 pages on this thread to get my answer.

When I first looked at the thread, I downloaded the version OggDude first posted, the one that started the thread way back on page 1.

Is that up to date? If so, Ten Thousand Blessings Be Unto Ye, if not, where can I get the most current, updated, whizz-bang version of this godsend oh I beseech thee tell me and offer thee burnt offerings and fatted calfs and all sortsa stuff I swear...put it right in the mail...

@corradus - the most up to date link is at the bottom of his signature, but he usually updates the first page as well. You can pick from two sources to update your files from.

To answer your question, the link in the first message points to the latest version of the ZIP file on DropBox, since that's how it all started. As Fang said, if you look at my signature, you have a few more choices for downloads. You can use either the ZIP file, or perform a web install that works like like a normal install program. The web install will also automatically update the program when it detects a new release, and will only download what it needs, instead of downloading the entire thing every time.

I have two locations for the downloads. DropBox is the default download location, but they tend to whine and complain about bandwidth usage, and they can sometimes suspend public downloads on my account. The other location is Copy.com, which so far, doesn't seem to complain about downloading. I personally do a web install from Copy.com on my computer.

OK, latest bug-fix release is up. Give it about 20 minutes.

Release 1.4.5.x Bug Fix
1.4.5.3
  • The Under Barrel Grenade Launcher didn't have increased encumbrance, or the initial Limited Ammo 1 quality. This has been fixed.
  • When just modifying a description in the Data Editor, the current collection wasn't being flagged properly as needing to be saved. Adding, modifying, or removing items would flag the collection properly. This has been fixed.

Noticed a weapon category mismatch: the Stun Baton is not listed under Bludgeoning Melee, and only appears in the full list.

Also, it doesn't look like the Stun Baton can take a Weighted Head mod...

Edited by whafrog

I think I did that because it's basically a shock prod, not something you beat someone over the head with. The Thunderbolt shock prod is the same way. And it can't take Weighted Head for the same reason (it only works for Blugeoning Melee and Blugeoning Brawl).

Of course, I could be wrong; maybe you do beat people over the head with it :) Opinions, anyone?

Can anything take that mod yet?

Edit - Without a Jury Rig...

Yes, I believe the Stun Club can (can't remember which book that's in, and am AFB...).

It's probably a subtle rule thing I missed, but how do you know whether something is "bludgeoning"? I'm not seeing in the rules where a weapon has that category (though I'm sure I'll have a "doh!" moment when somebody points it out).

I can only assume based on how you attack with it and knowing the definition. I haven't seen anything in the rules themselves.

I think you're on the money, and that the stun baton and Thunderbolt are "jab the target and let the energy discharge do the rest" as opposed to the "crack the other guy's skull open" the way a truncheon would work. Force pikes are assumed to work much the same, in that you're not so much "bludgeoning" the opponent as jabbing them, again with the Force pikes using an energy discharge (at least per the fluff material) instead of a weighted end or sharp tip.

Besides, the stun baton and Thunderbolt got enough going for them as is.

The primary use for categories in the generator (other than for filtering) is to allow attachments for that item based on the category. I don't think the weapons themselves are classified as such in the CRB, but if you read attachment descriptions, they'll say what sort of weapon it can be used on. I don't have my CRB's handy right now, but I bet if you look at Weighted Head, as an example, it'll mention something about bludgeoning weapons.

Cool, I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this then :) I'll keep them the way they are unless I get a definitive answer one way or another.

Your comment on Force pikes intrigues me :D I'm not in front of my computer right now, so I don't know how I categorized them, but do you not jab people with it with the intent on drawing blood? :) Shock prods are just a jab and touch, but I thought from the "pike" in the name that it worked more like a spear.

Hi Oggy! First off, I love your creator. I've been running a Star Wars tabletop game for nearly 2 years now, and converted from Saga to EoE about 6 months ago. I've been using your creator to manage the game ever since.

One of my players and I ran across a weird issue with XP calculation. I exported his character so he could spend XP, and he spent until he saw 0 XP available. He then exported again and sent back. I deleted my version, and then imported the new .xml he sent. When I import it, I show -20 XP spent. We compared side by side and can't see a difference between the two.

Any ideas? If you need me to post/send anything, let me know!

Thanks!

What version of the software was he using? And what version are you using? It'll show the version on the bottom left of the launcher app.

With the Force pike, I've read stuff that goes both ways on whether it's a big fancy shock prod or if there's an actually spear-point at the end of it. So for the moment, I'd go with whatever works best for you as the default in the program. If other folks using the program disagree, they can certainly change the file in the Data Editor to reflect how they think it should work.

Hi Oggy I'm trying to Create a German Translation for your Creator using the SW Data Editor. Is there a possibility to Change the Emded Texts? ( For Example: In Characteristics , "Brawn" translates to "Stärke", I could change the Description but not the Text Value Itself)

The Defensive training isn't adding to defense when I have the lightsaber equiped.

Heavy Battle Armor is calculating encumbrance correctly at six, but the display text on it shows Encumbrance 3.
