Another Character Generator

I've just tried to reinstall this great character generator after getting a new system but the dropbox link brings up en error;

"Error (509) This account's public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled!"

Is anyone else having this problem? I've been trying for the last few hours but without any luck :(

I have the Char Creator on 2 computers and tried to update them both last night but the auto updater didn't detect an update. I checked the Dropbox link and got the same error message you did. I uninistalled both and reinstalled it fresh from the copy.com link in OggDude's signature and they both are fine now.

DropBox is picky about bandwidth usage. If too many people are accessing it, it will suspend the links for a day. As far as I know, Copy.com doesn't do this, but who knows. Either wait a day or two, or try the copy.com link.

Noticed an error when you add the Paired Weapons attachment. The character generator is charging the full 300cr for each weapon instead of 300cr for the pair. There is a work around however. You can click "purchase" and buy it at 50% cost.

I think I'll actually keep the price the same, since you have to buy them in pairs, but maybe add a note to the description that tells you to just do an Add on the second one, to clarify.

I love this program. Thanks so much for making it. I was wondering if there is a way to display cybernetics as weapons, such as the Repulsor fist and the one with the blaster in your arm (can't remember what it is called). If not I'll just leave it in the notes for the item.

Just "Equip" the Replusor Fist and a new weapon called "Repulsor Fist" should appear in your weapon list. The same will happen for the Cybernetic Weapon Implant next release (I didn't make the change for it for this release). In the mean time, just add a light blaster pistol to your inventory and note that it belongs to the implant.

Just a couple of problems I've found or been made aware of (and fixed) for the upcoming release. If you find any more issues, please let me know!

  • If the GM Tools and the generator were open at the same time, there was a possibility that the generator would get an exception after the character was saved. This should no longer happen.
  • Accessing certain adversaries in GM Tools could cause an exception if they were saved before the innate skills feature was implemented. This should no longer happen.
  • Cybernetic Weapon Implant now includes an innate weapon Retractable Light Blaster Pistol, so you no longer need to add one to your inventory.

Is it possible for the user to increase the size of the text on the character sheet? I have a couple of players with poor eyesight and they are having difficulty reading skills and weapon information. Otherwise I love the program, great work!

Edit: I am referring to the character sheet that gets printed out. Much of the first 2 pages are taken up by blocks devoted to notes, so it seemed like I may be missing some option somewhere to increase text size to utilize that note space and make for easier reading on my 'vision impaired' players.

I want to bump this question as it was probably missed in the pre-holiday barrage of posts. Thanks!!

Sorry, no. But, the text should scale up if you use oversized paper stock, assuming that your printer accepts it.

Also, some text may appear smaller in order to make it fit in a particular space. By making certain descriptions smaller, you might be able to get the text to look larger. Off-hand, though, I'm not sure which text I do that to.

Noticed another error regarding Rigger talents. Prior to 1.4.4.0 the increases to a signature vehicle from talents were added in to the stats. After 1.4.4.0 that no longer happens. Also the Signature Vehicle talent is telling me I do not have a vehicle to choose from even though the character in question does own a HWK-290 and has it listed with the character..

Yeah, that one deserves a bug fix release. 1.4.4 was a double-whammy of new features to support Fly Casual, combined with an overhaul in the way I manage memory. Where those two collided, there could be potential problems. I'm actually surprised more issues weren't found.

Anyway, a new release is currently being uploaded and will be available shortly!

I'm looking into making it easier to localize cultures with the apps. I'll let everyone know when I do, since I'll need translators :)

you should update your signature :) Bug fix hasn't come through on drop box yet. but i suspect it is a timing issue...

Simple, dumb question I haven't been able to find an answer to...

I granted my group Piloting - Planetary as a Career skill since they are a swoop gang, which turned out fine since everyone already had it as a career skill until my Colonist - Doctor showed up. Anyway to toggle career skills as a GM grant?

About group career skills... the only thing that supports that are bases. So... what you can do is add a focus of "Swoop Gang" or whatever, and give it the Piloting - Planetary skill as its career skill. Then make the new focus accessible through either businesses or homesteads. Then, create a base with the new focus. It doesn't matter if it's a real base or not, although I'm picturing Teller-Morrow Automotive and the SAMCRO club house, just with swoops instead of hogs :)

Anyway, whether or not it's a "real" or "virtual" base, every group member will get the skill as a career skill.

First off, I love the generator. It's been incredibly handy.

However, I'm having an issue with Holocrons. Equipping a Holocron will correctly show the Career check mark on the Skills page, but the costs when upgrading the skills are as though it were Non-Career, and the new Non-Career column doesn't allow me to change how many ranks are/aren't Career in this case.

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

I have received this error for the DropBox link for 2 days and am unable to update from 1.4.3.0. I have also tried running the program for auto updates with a similar non-updated result.

Heh... Oddly enough, that's exactly what they have, but their Homestead gives them all Mechanics as a career skill... Is it possible to have two Homesteads? (And you're right... It's SAMCRO'esque down to the abbreviation... Twilight Motors instead of Teller-Morrow).

I'm not terribly worried about making a group career skill, I just want to be able to GM grant a career skill (like a toggle).

I'm probably the only one who wants this, so while you could say it's a Feature Request, I wouldn't pay it much mind.

EDIT: AH! Nevermind. I figured it out. Perfect. Thank you. I created a new "Base" and made it the Club ("Speeder Gang"), giving it both Mechanics and Piloting - Planetary as Career choices. Brilliant. Okay. Nevermind all the rest. That works beautifully.

I just checked my own install which uses copy.com and it upgraded just fine to 1.4.4.1. Remember, if you accidentally hit "Skip" when it comes up for an upgrade, it won't ask you again for 2 weeks.

Nice catch! Yeah, that's a bug. Basically, it made some final checks on skills before items were applied, so it was still seeing the skill as being non-career. So if you got a career skill from any other source, it would work correctly, but if you got it from an item or an attachment, it would jump the gun and make it function like a non-career skill.

I modified the code to do that check AFTER items and attachments are applied, so it works now. Next release :)
