Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So I was looking at the GM tool and the categories. I have some new categories that i think would be useful.

Droids

Criminals

Force users

Imperial officers

Imperial troops

Rebel officers

Rebel Troops

Civilians

Pilots

law enforcement

politicians

nobles

It gleans the categories from the setting in each adversary, so you can redo the categories however you like them by just editing an adversary. For the CRBs, I make the categories the same as in the books. For the other sources, I tend to just leave them as the source name.

Can you have multiple categories? Because it is useful to search by book and category. But it is also useful to search by category across all books.I am thinking treating categories like keywords that you have a lot of different ways you might be able to pull them up would be good.

So I have been messing with the GM tool and it would be nice to be able to print the stat block out instead of saving as an image.

I think you missed this post Ogg :)

FYI, OggDude, I just had an issue where Google Chrome warned me about the Dropbox manual install link, saying "SWEoteCharGen.zip is malicious". When I downloaded it from the Google Drive manual install link, Chrome didn't complain about the file -- and a quick check of various hashes (MD5, SHA1, SHA256, etc) shows that both files were identical; the file on Dropbox had not been modified. And when I later re-downloaded the Dropbox file, Chrome did *not* complain about it, even though it was the exact same file as before (again, all the hashes were identical -- MD5 was 8b25713fd7f134935d46e6af7430a5a5, SHA1 was c52503d536911ed347041702fb24c43d1532cc7e, and so on).

So there's nothing you need to do about this as far as I can tell, but I thought you'd want to know in case anyone else sees that warning and gets scared off by it.

If anyone else sees this -- there's probably nothing wrong with the SWEotECharGen.zip file. But to be on the safe side, if Google Chrome warns you about malicious software when you try to download the character generator, I recommend downloading something like http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/hash_my_files.html and double-checking the hashes against the ones I just listed. If it has the same MD5 and SHA1 hashes as the ones I just listed, then you can be positive there's nothing wrong with it.

(Do note that those hashes are for the 1.3.0.0 version, released on September 4th, 2014. If you have a different version than 1.3.0.0, then the hashes will be completely different because the .zip file is completely different. So if you're seeing this in October or November and OggDude has updated the link in his forum signature to point to a newer version than 1.3.0.0, just ignore this post entirely.)

Big thing I've noticed is that the Keldabe is listed as an Airspeeder, not a starship. Easily fixable, but thought I should mention it. Also, I can't find any place to do the homestead building.

Homesteads and businesses will probably end up as a new pane in GM Tools. They'll be attached to a group, you'll be able to spend group obligation on them, buy upgrades, etc.

However, this will be in a future release.

More donation thanks go out to Jason Hunt, Christopher Hooker, and Pawel Kubriki. Thanks, guys! As always, I really appreciate the support.

I seem to be running into a glitch where the buttons to get extra stuff in exchange for more obligation are always grayed out.

it's not a glitch. Read the FAQ, it has a lengthy explanation of how the Obligation/Duty options work. In a nutshell, you need to add Obligation OVER the set starting value before stuff starts to show up.

Oops, my mistake, I was putting things in the wrong order (starting size first then bumping up the number). I withdraw my comment now that I look in a manner reminiscent of a dumb person.

Interesting Proposal: allowing the player to select ONE (still limited to one) signature ability from the specs he/she has completed as appropriate. I have an Explorer Trader who wishes the Colonist book was out sooner so he could have started as a Colonist Entrepreneur and have access to the colonists signature ability. As a GM I am considering allowing him to choose the colonist signature abilities even though he is an explorer.

It took awhile for me to understand it as well :) There's also another caveat that says you can't benefit from extra Obligation in excess of the starting size. So, if your starting size is 10, you won't get any benefit for Obligation over 20 (start size, plus another 10). There's an option to turn this off under Options, if you don't like it.

For Duty, it's the opposite. You need to buy down Duty so it's under the starting size.

Here's the latest bug fix release. Again, give Google Drive about 20 minutes to update (don't ask me why...):

Release 1.3.0.x Bug Fix
  • The new campaign sorting from the Character pane would only show a single character when filtering was turned on. It should now work properly.
  • The campaign setting in the Description pane would display the previous campaign value when a new character was loaded that did not have a campaign. It will now properly show a blank campaign.
  • Fixed the price and restricted flag for Armored Robes.
  • All apps will now check for valid installed printers before printing is allowed.
  • When upgrading a vehicle weapon to a weapon that intrinsically has the linked quality (such as the Quad Laser Cannon), the cost would be based the linked quality as an upgrade, rather than taking into account the original linked value. Costs should now be calculated correctly.
  • The vehicle list in any vehicle pane will now default to being sorted by name.
  • The weapon list in the vehicle upgrade dialog will now be sorted by name.
  • When you choose a vehicle weapon to upgrade, when the vehicle upgrade dialog is displayed, all settings will default to the weapon being upgraded. You can then make any changes you like to it.
  • When copying a PC adversary in GM Tools, the copy was not saved and did not show up the next time the app was launched. This was because PC adversaries, by definition, do not persist, so the copy was not persisting either by default. Copies of PC adversaries will now be saved correctly and treated like normal adversaries, rather than like PC adversaries.
  • Collar-Amp (Upgraded) from Far Horizons had a user key. It has now been given an actual key (COLLARAMPUP).
  • The FasClean Atmospheric Reactive Damper's name was incorrect. This has been fixed.
  • "The Local Leader" was missing from background hooks. It has been added.
  • Changed Unmatched Expertise signature ability to include two versions of Activation and Reduce Difficulty.
  • The Keldabe battleship had an incorrect "type". It should now be properly set to "Battleship".
  • When printing an encounter sheet with a minion group with a count over 10, it would only show the 10's digit for 2 digit counts under "Remaining". Now, 2 digit counts will use a smaller font that will properly show both digits.

Woot. Downloading auto install from google drive. so that should be working now.

Yup, the icon isn't spinning anymore, so it should be good to go :)

Hey Ogg did you see my post about printing stat blocks?

Bug Report
Move power. In the power trees and character sheet it has the edge of the empire info.
In the Data editor I put in the Force and destiny descriptions in. But those are not showing up on the sheet or in the character editor.
I have all the core rules and books included in the options.

Hey Ogg, can you let me know how to add a new weapon quality? I can't seem to see it.

Thanks mate.

Yeah, I'll have to think about it a bit. Because they're generally smaller than a full sized piece of paper, it's going to need placement options and the like.

Did you put the first ones in as a data set, then the FaD ones into the default custom data? If so, data sets overwrite changes made to default custom data. That might be what's happening.

Check out this message , it'll explain how to do it.

If you added the EotE descriptions from a data set, then yeah, they'll write over the default descriptions. However, don't just remove the data set or you'll remove all the other descriptions in there as well :) You might just want to modify the EotE data set to the new Force power format (with the black/white force points). I'm guessing that's what you want to do?

What happens when 2 datasets conflict? IE Force and destiny and Edge of the Empire.

Well.... it depends on which one is loaded first :) In that case, remove the old Force descriptions from the EotE data set, and then add them to the FaD data set. Don't just select the text and hit delete, actually do a Remove.

I don't want to remove the dataset as i want the other edge info. :P Maybe setting a priority order on datasets might be a useful thing to do...

I didn't mean remove the data set, I meant remove the descriptions. Select the EotE data set, go to Force abilities, and find the ones you no longer want with "DescOnly". Click Remove on them to remove the custom descriptions. Then, select the FaD data set, and add the new descriptions you want.
