Another Character Generator

I'd like to be able to define the number of initiative slots there are avalible. I have a large group and usually find that I am one or two slots short. Maybe make it so you can add columns so it widens it instead of makes it longer?

I had this tonight with my usual group, I used up all the slots plus 4, so it would be handy to be able to set how many slots you'd like.

Here's something that I run into. When everyone rolls for initiative, they tell me their triumphs, successes, and advantages (order of precedence) and I write it down. I'll then roll for the adversaries and write down the same thing. Then I'll go through and assign initiative slots.

What I'm finding myself doing is writing the rolls (T/S/A) in the margins of the sheet, then eyeballing them into the right order by just checking "PC" or "NPC" in the init panel. This is telling me that I need another work area on the encounter sheet for tracking rolls before assigning slots. Unless, of course, I'm doing it in a really screwy way :) How do you guys roll initiative, and how do you put it in the right order?

I actually have a Initiative Tracker posted by torquemadaza (post #166 of the Compiled Resources List) that I laminated and use to track all of my combats.

I only use the tracker on the encounter sheet if I want to document what happened so I can reference it later.

That's actually very close to what I was thinking (having T/S/A, then ordering them), but I don't have an entire page to play with :) I'll try to come up with something a bit more condensed.

Dude! This is awesome! You should see if FFG will buy this to be their official character builder.

Just one problem though, the radial buttons don't work for bonus XP and bonus credits by taking bonus glory. You can do it manually, but thought I'd point it out.

Thanks a lot!

Are you referring to obligation options? If so, I have a long description of how these work in the FAQ. Go ahead and read that and let me know if you still have questions.

Where's the FAQ? Nevermind, I found it.

What if you were to just spit it out to a separate page?

A possible request for the GM tool.

The ability to sort the adversaries by planet, creature, imperial, criminal, etc. Maybe as check boxes so one could check nemesis and creature and get appropriate creatures. Or Criminal and tattooine. or creature and tatooine.

I did fine one error that isn't in the FAQ, I wanted to put the oversized external weapon attachment on a silhouette 4 freighter so that I could add a light turbolaser, but it doesn't give me the silhouette 5 weapon options.

I just checked it and it was only expanding the high limit and not lowering the low limit. It'll be fixed in the next version.

I found a problem. i have stim packs on my character. And i used one but do not have the ability to use one. Same with things like Grenades.

Nevermind. But could you remove the dialogue box between. You click remove then click ok then get the dialogue that says how many.

Look at me, I'm helping!

Hi there.

Using the Data Editor, I created a custom ship basing off a stock one (YG-4210 - I wanted it to be the original YG-4210/YG-5000 hybrid, since it looks just like it, engines and all).

Now I'm opening GM Tools, go to Stock Vehicles, click New, and find the new ship. The gray silhouette on the shields / defense diagram is one of a YT-1300, not of the (original) YG-4210.

Is there a way to circumvent or fix it?

(sorry if it's already been asked, 81 pages of posts is a bit too much to scroll through...)

It doesn't copy the images, just the vehicle itself. If you want to copy the images:

  1. Go into Data\VehicleImages and find the image with the same key as the one you copied.
  2. Copy (don't move) that file and add it to DataCustom\VehicleImages (or DataCustom\DataSet_whatever\VehicleImages if you created the new vehicle in a data set)
  3. Rename the file so that it uses the key of the vehicle you created (i.e., XXXXX.png, where XXXXX is the new key)
  4. Repeat for the silhouette, found in Data\VehicleSilhouettes

Thanks, that worked out correctly. Your tool is simply great.

Man, I am having no end to crashes trying to run this in a windows 7 vmware virtual machine.

It would probably help to send Oggy the first few lines of those crashes so he can tell you what you need to do to fix it :)

Is there a way to search through gear when purchasing? (or has anyone suggested a Search feature?)

I don't know how difficult a search is to add, but that would be great.

(This program is so fantastic, that I feel like an a-hole even asking for more.) :P

Search would be nice.

Folders for characters would be nice for organizing characters. =)

If it gave me a few lines, I'd be happy to share. Since nobody else is reporting an issue it's likely local to me and not really worth chasing down.

First (although I may have said this before)...Thanks OggDude..this program is fantastic. My games would be lost without it.

Now...onto my nonsense...

This may have been covered earlier in this thread...my search-fu is clouded by the dark-side...

Is there a way to give characters a pet? One of my players adoped a Nexu...don't ask...even I don't want to know...and I was there. And is there a way to add your own custom switches...so we can customize the program for our home-brew rules?

Thanks.

Create an adversary for them in the GM tool. Then ad them and the character to an encounter. Print and now you have everything you need.

Anyone running into issues printing encounters when you have all of the adversaries imported? I have a bit over 300 adversaries and depending on what else I'm running, I'm getting memory issues printing long or complex encounters, including blank pages and even exceptions. It doesn't happen all the time, though, so it really depends on free RAM. I'm running 32-bit so I'm limited to 2 GB (even though I have 6 GB installed), but I know most machines now have more. Not sure if I should waste more time with this, or release the new version.

Edit: This is bugging me sufficiently that I'm working on a database-based solution that will serialize adversaries, characters, encounters, etc. into a local SQL Server Compact database, rather than caching them in memory and taking up gobs of RAM. I just discovered that binary serialization can retrieve these items from the DB without much of a performance hit from the memory cache. So... I'm going to work on this some more (not this weekend, however; it's our anniversary and we're going away until Sunday) and do the release sometime next week. Hopefully, you'll notice that the GM Tools takes up a LOT less memory, especially if you have a bunch of adversaries imported.

Another modest request. Something I realized would be useful...

A box on the Equipment page that shows the character's current total credits.

It actually lists that in the summary panel at the bottom.

I just discovered this resource, it's awesome! Thanks OggDude!

Hehe. Funny how I never noticed that before. Thanks!

I don't do advantages for skills, only dice. I'll check to see how common this is.

The following races get a free advantage on the following checks:

Zeltron, charm/deception/negotiation

Ugnaught, resilience

Verpine, perception

Devaronian, perception

Duros, astrogation

There may or may not be more races like this in future books?

I just wanted to say thanks for making this program. The saveable stat blocks for NPCs, complete with dice pools, are an awesome feature.

I don't know what would be required, but my work computer is a Mac (darn my work for making me use one instead of a decent PC). Is there any possibility that this program could be ported to run on Macs so that I can use it while at work? Would that be too much trouble?
