Another Character Generator

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The Zeltron race get a free advantage on charm/deception/negotiation, but it's not showing when I look at the skills section.

Maybe you aren't charming enough to play a zeltron...lol :P

I don't do advantages for skills, only dice. I'll check to see how common this is.

A suggestion. I'm a newbie of photoshop, but you can really create almost-equal-quality png using less hd space. Also you can reduce resolution in half for those image previews in the application. This way you can go from 600Kb pic to a 100Kb one.

I have changed all pics from /VehicleImages folder from the original format to indexed colour mode (default options) and 50% resolution (now all are 346x346px) and the folder went from 47MB to 7MB (the .zip went from 100MB to 60MB). If you want the folder I can send it to you.

Yeah, that's just me being lackadaisical with creating images. I took a look at the character sheet, and they only really need to be 196x196. I'll go through and resize them all.

Try also to save them as 8bit png (256 colours) for even more space savings.

With the Age of Rebellion Core Rule Book being released in a few months I am wondering if you are going to add the ability to turn off the stuff from the Edge of the Empire Core Rule Book. So if i just want to use things from AoR i can easily just see that information.

Yeah, this is something I've been pondering about. Basically, I wrote this as an EotE character generator. Therefore, everything from the EotE CRB is always present ("base" data), no matter which additional sources you select. With a new CRB coming out, what I'm going to have to do is change my concept of "base" data into data that is common in all three books. Then, I'll need to add an EotE and AoR source for everything that isn't common.

Another issue is that "base" data won't be enough to allow the generator to run. For instance, if you don't include any sources other than "base" data, you won't have any careers, because no careers are common to all CRBs. This could also be an issue with species if there's no overlap, or even Force powers or any number of things. So... I'm also going to have to flag certain sources as "CRB" sources and require at least one CRB source to be selected. This will ensure that there will be a minimum amount of data present to create a character.

Once I do this, you'll be able to create a plain vanilla EotE character, or AoR character, or F&D character (when it comes out), without having to include any data that isn't from one of those CRBs. You'll just be required to select at least one CRB source.

I like it.

I also like it, if you want to go the presentation route, you could even have the 'skin' of the generator change. For example the characteristics in EotE are green, but in the AoR beta book they are a reddish orange.

Just a thought.

Edge would be white age reddish force and destiny would be green or blue depending.

I've got a humble suggestion:

Equipment > Owned Gear List: The ability to reorganize or sort our stuff. Maybe a "Move Up" & "Move Down" button to the right? Something to help keep things a little more organized on our character sheets...

One more request:

Anywhere that lists things on the character or vehicle sheets, it would be great if there was an option to list things (like talents) alphabetically. For example, in the options there could be a checkbox to sort alphabetically.

Right now If I make a character or nemesis the order that I add things to the character is the order that it shows up on the sheets. If I add talent A, Talent D, Talent C, Talent A (improved), I would like to be able to sort it and have it display on the sheet as talent A, talent A (improved), Talent B, Talent C, Talent D.

A global move up/down as ccarlson and others have suggested, anywhere there is a list of things might also solve the issue.

Tapeworm supreme, goto Oggy's website forum. Some of us have shared stuff there.

So, I have gone to Oggy's Website Forum and checked out all the files, and while the files I got were amazing, I was more thinking along the lines of general stats punched in for say Stormtroopers. Everything I saw was for the main character builder, with the exception to Oggy's: Enemy of my Enemy adventure information. Any Ideas?

Aren't Stormtrooper minions in the basic data set for the program?

P.S. - The files I add are only for the GM Tools. I haven't added all of them yet, but I have a few minions, rivals, and nemesis.

A question and a suggestion/request for the GM Tool Encounters.

The question, I know that this is going to be something obvious, but I am just not making the connection here. On a printed Encounter sheet, are the two sections named Enemy and Others intended for something specific, or just as a handy way to track boost/setback/difficulty dice that may be applied against/for the NPC? I'd attach a pic but they apparently have disabled that feature here.

The suggestion/request. In the GM Tools Encounters dialog, you can filter by Campaign and Adventure. But printing the sheets has to be done by selecting one encounter at a time. Would it be possible to allow multiple selections or include a print all button for the encounters that are visible? That way one could filter to Adventure One and just print all of the encounters associated with that name, rather than having to manually print each individual encounter?

Not something critical or anything. But it would have sure been handy today. I just back-fitted all the encounter data for my upcoming demo so I could use those nifty encounter sheets. And then had to go back and print everything individually. ;)

The install includes an Imports directory that has just about all of the published adversaries, plus encounters, stock vehicles, and more. In fact, I'll be including a new set of adversaries and encounters for "Jewel of Yavin" in the next release.

Actually, I'm trying to think if there'd be a good reason NOT to sort talents. Force powers are displayed grouped, and it would be totally confusing to sort them, but talents... I'll sort talents on the character sheet and in encounters.

The "Enemy" and "Others" columns are for keeping track of boosts, setbacks, and difficulty upgrades. "Enemy" is for the adversary (what boosts, setbacks, or difficulty upgrades he currently has on him), while "Others" is usually for PCs, but could be allies he's giving boosts to; that is, setbacks or upgrades that he's inflicting on a PC, or boosts he's giving to an ally. For instance, an adversary spends some advantage to give a PC some setback. You can keep track of it under "Others".

Now, maybe this isn't that useful, I don't know. When I actually started using my encounter sheets, I do notice that I hardly ever use those columns. They seemed like a great idea when I designed it, but it could be that something more useful, but similar, could be put in its place. I'm always open to new ideas, so if you have them, I'd like to hear them :)

"Print All" could be dangerous if you have all of your encounter sheets showing :) Plus, it would take awhile for the print preview screen to show, since it would have to add bitmaps for all pages in all the encounters. I'll think about how I could do that without totally rewriting my grid code. Maybe adding checkboxes for print and export, something like that...

I'd like to be able to define the number of initiative slots there are avalible. I have a large group and usually find that I am one or two slots short. Maybe make it so you can add columns so it widens it instead of makes it longer?

I had this tonight with my usual group, I used up all the slots plus 4, so it would be handy to be able to set how many slots you'd like.

I'm the guy all PC users hate. Unless it's a very special occasion, I'm always on my iPad. The Mac in my back room is really just a hub for the rest of my house at this point.

Are there any plans, by anyone, to make an iPad app? Are there any apps already available I just don't know about?

Thanks.

Here's something that I run into. When everyone rolls for initiative, they tell me their triumphs, successes, and advantages (order of precedence) and I write it down. I'll then roll for the adversaries and write down the same thing. Then I'll go through and assign initiative slots.

What I'm finding myself doing is writing the rolls (T/S/A) in the margins of the sheet, then eyeballing them into the right order by just checking "PC" or "NPC" in the init panel. This is telling me that I need another work area on the encounter sheet for tracking rolls before assigning slots. Unless, of course, I'm doing it in a really screwy way :) How do you guys roll initiative, and how do you put it in the right order?

When I roll initiative, everyone rolls (everyone at the table has their own dice)

I then go through it, asking who got the most, so I go:

"Okay..who got a Triumph? No one? Okay...who got 5 success'?....4?"

Matt and Ruth raise their hands.

Matt: "4 Success, 2 advantage."

Ruth: "4 Success."

Me: "A minion group got 4 Success as well, PCs take initiative so they will take slot 3."

And so on, I go through lower and lower degrees of success until all slots are defined.

It doesn't take long, which is surprising given that I have 8 people in the group. However it means that I only have 2 slots on the sheets to allow for adversaries and I usually have more than that, most I've ever had is 8...so that's 16 slots in total.

However not everyone needs so many slots, so I think people should be able to define how many slots they need.

Cool, I thought that was what they were for, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

I can see your point on "print all", how about just letting you select more than one via 'ctrl' or 'shft' click?

I actually have a Initiative Tracker posted by torquemadaza (post #166 of the Compiled Resources List) that I laminated and use to track all of my combats.

I only use the tracker on the encounter sheet if I want to document what happened so I can reference it later.

Hi. I'm having a problem and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I used the Google Drive web install and it seemed like everything was fine, but when I go to start a new character and use the drop-down box to pick a stock portrait...there's nothing there for me to pick. I'm not sure if I did something wrong during the install to cause it to not install the portraits or something.

Dude! This is awesome! You should see if FFG will buy this to be their official character builder.

Just one problem though, the radial buttons don't work for bonus XP and bonus credits by taking bonus glory. You can do it manually, but thought I'd point it out.

Thanks a lot!

Finally! Someone discovered this bug :) I was beginning to wonder if anyone used the stock portrait combo. Yeah, it got broken when I moved the data directory out of the app directory. It also never worked with DataCustom or the new data sets. The new release will fix all of these problems.

Are you referring to obligation options? If so, I have a long description of how these work in the FAQ. Go ahead and read that and let me know if you still have questions.
