When I tried to transfer my files, I got an error that it didn't have anything in the "new" folder so it failed.
It's very possible I just had no idea what I was doing.
It does seem to have worked to point the Data Path at the generator folder.
Another Character Generator
Still having problems, some of my players are not very computer literate and so despite laying it out in easy steps where to direct the data path to...they are still having problems.
With that in mind I'd like to suggest for the next release a third option in the data path screen:
1) Use the Standard Data Path - C:\Users\<LOGIN NAME>\AppData\Roaming\SWCharGen
2) Use the Character Generator Folder (Dropbox friendly) - C:\Users\<LOGIN NAME>\Dropbox\Character Generator Folder
3) Select Your Own Data Location.
I really don't want to code for a particular cloud solution, since people could be using just about any of them out there. Couldn't you just call them on the phone and walk them through it?
In case anyone notices, I changed the Google Drive links to Bitly links so I can track them. They still point to the same place, though.
Theoretically they should work for any file sharing program since it just uses the character generators root folder, I just used dropbox as an example.
As for phoning them, I will see what I can do about that, but my group don't really know me very well, they only met me 3 weeks ago at the store where we hold the sessions.

Different cloud services use different local syn directories. DropBox uses "C:\Users\<loginid>\DropBox", while Google Drive uses "C:\Users\<logind>\Google Drive". Now, I could have a default to the user directory, since that seems to be a theme with these services. That might be helpful.
But grats on finding a group at the store
It's great meeting new fellow gamers. I met a couple of guys at the last Con I went to and they've been coming over now for the past month or so for a game as well. It's fun getting new blood in your games (figuratively, anyway, unless you run powerful adversaries
).
Edit: Actually, I played around with it and defaulting to the user directory is almost silly, since it's the first folder down from the "Desktop" root that's displayed anyway
Having a checkbox would actually just overly complicate things. Just tell them to look for their login name in the list, click that, then look for "DropBox", click that, then point them to the directory you use.
Yeah, thankfully it looks like most have managed to fix it, also I was operating under the assumption that you could just have the launcher target its own location directory so that it wouldn't specifically look for a dropbox folder. It would just take its location from the properties and plonk it down in the data path. However I'm not even sure that's possible.
Yeah, I was as well. I only found my FLGS a month ago and went there and started ordering the various books, although I had gained the core off Amazon. The owners actually asked if I'd be interested in running a game, they usually do DnD encounters on Wednesday. I showed up, asked them all about Edge of the Empire, by the end of their session we'd arranged to meet up every Tuesday at 7:30 pm and game until 10:15 pm.
Recently had my second session, didn't go as well as I would have liked, but they seem to be enjoying themselves.
I basically have given them all access to the generator via dropbox so they can print out their sheets and make changes to their characters whenever they wish.
Oh, also I noticed some 'Species Abilities' weren't contributing to the dice pool. For example one of my players is Arkanian (part of the Unofficial Species Menagerie) and the Arkanian ability is to add a boost dice to all knowledge checks. Not sure if this is an issue but thought I'd flag it.

Oh, good catch. Yeah, I figured I missed some places where boosts were applied. I'm adding boost capability right now to species options, as well as adversary special abilities. If you find any other places where boosts aren't being applied, please let me know.
Oggy Dropbox is a 200Mb version and Google Drive is only 100Mb, wich one is the correct? Oh and when I overwrited the program my created chars disappeared.
Oh and nice add with the Boosts on skills

Yeah, an old archive got put into that one for some reason, so it doubled in size. Oops
The right one will be up in about 10 minutes.
The launcher should have an arrow pointing to the transfer button as a hint that you need to transfer your characters. You actually have two choices: transfer your characters from the old data location to the new one, or change your data location path to point to the old one. You can do both from the launcher.
Edit: It's actually not just your characters, it's all of your data. Just wanted to be clear
Also, Ogg, have you considered a 'Minus Setback' icon to go into the dice pool on the front?

The change I made includes adding setback, but I didn't put it into any of the editors because it would really only apply, maybe, to some attachments. As for removing setback... not sure how I'd represent that, other than using a minus sign, and that would be confusing. I also can't be too verbose since there's limited room in most of the skill dice blocks. Something like "Remove [_] [_] [_]" would only really fit in the adversary block, and even then it probably wouldn't look good. I do add setbacks on a limited basis in the "shown weapons" grid for, I think, the blaster actuator attachment. But that block can use two lines, so it's not a problem. I'm more cramped for room in the main skill block on the first page, so too many setbacks in too many skills would make the grid too large. So, I'd like to keep it to a single line.
If you have any ideas on how to do this and have it be clear as to what the setbacks are for, let me know.
Seeing as how a lot of talents remove setback die I can see how this would be useful....And minus setback does seem to be the easiest way to do it. Maybe have a not explaining it at the top of the skill section.
Basically I was thinking a unique icon for it. A black square as per usual but with a white 'minus' line in the middle of it to distinguish it from a normal setback dice icon. If you want to save space, maybe have a minus and a number in the black square to say "This represents that two setback dice can be taken away from your pool."

Looking at the list of updates, kinda wish I'd had this yesterday. Was very time consuming to have to hit Save when making several updates to the Force powers in my Ways of the Force supplement to make sure the updates I made to Force Abilities were there when updating the powers themselves.
Thanks again for this.
I'm surprised that nobody complained about it
It was one of those things on my "to-do" list, but there was always bigger fish to fry elsewhere. It finally bugged me enough that I just took care of it.
Could just be I'm the only person to really bother with adding the various Force powers as custom data, which was where the issue really became apparent, particularly if you tried to open the CharGen after adding that data and it not saving right and you've got one or more Force user PCs saved.

Yeah, sorry about that. I could also see it cropping up creating signature abilities or spec trees as well. Basically, anything that relies on other data being present.
Yeah...something like that!

Perfect.
I either found a bug, or I'm misunderstanding some rules.
When adding the attachments "Retrofitted Hanger Bay" or "Enhanced Carbon-Durasteel Armor," the program only charges 5,000 and 2,000 respectively, regardless of silhouette.
Looking at the descriptions on CRB 269 (armor) and CRB 271 (hanger), shouldn't it be 5,000 (or 2,000) x silhouette? So a ship with 5 silhouette should be 25,000 (10,000) and a ship with 6 should be 30,000 (12,000)... Or am I just missing something?

Wow. That used to work fine, but looking at the code, it was like I'd never put it in. That's scary.
Anyway, attachment pricing will work properly in the next release. And hopefully it'll stay that way
I have been trying to open this generator for weeks now but somehow I keep getting a message I am unfamiliar with... Something about a ".net framework update"? Did anyone else get this?
Yea, this program requires the .net Framework be installed for it to work, since it is written in .net
You can find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851
Oh.. so I'm pretty sure my work computer won't allow for this and I have a MAc at home so no luck for me there!

Most new windows installations come with the .NET framework already installed. It's a Microsoft product. If you ask your IT people to get the latest .NET Framework 4.0 installed, they'll probably do it without asking too many questions.
