Chapter VIII: The Force

Page 192-194: The specialization tree on page 193 is titled "Force Sensitive Emergent Talent Tree". Every reference within the text on these three pages refers to a "Force Emergent." Is the correct title for the universal specialization "Force Emergent" or "Force Sensitive Emergent"? Whichever, please make sure the correct version is used throughout the document.

Page 192: Under the subheading for Becoming Force Sensitive, in the third paragraph it is mentioned that a player with access to EOTE "may decide to use the Force-Sensitive Exile specialization instead of the Force Emergent specialization" (emphasis mine).

Is it the intention of the developers that a PC can have either the FS Emergent OR FS Exile specialization (and never be able to buy both specializations at some point)? The use of "instead" would suggest that a PC can have one or the other, but not both.

Page 192: Second paragraph, left column under the first heading, fourth line, capitalize 'force.' Suggest doing a search and replace through the document to be sure all instances of the Force are capitalized.

Page 194: First paragraph on page discusses how many Force Emergents develop some skill at martial arts. However, none of the Force Emergent talents are directly related to any combat skills (with the possible exception of the Touch of Fate talent). No specific change here; just the note that the fluff text doesn't really reflect the talent tree as provided.

Page 194-195: The section on Dark Side Force Users is presented as a sidebar in EOTE (page 278). Wondered if the intention was to do the same in AOR.

Page 194-195: The subheadings for Ongoing Effects and Force Power Breakdown as presented in EOTE (page 279) are missing in AOR. I presume they were omitted for the beta, but they need to be in the final, esp. since the Enhance power has a Commit element to it.

On the first one, I imagine it's a case of "you become Force-sensitive by taking either F/S Exile or F/S Emergent" rather than you can only ever select on or the other. Regardless of which one you take first, your character has become Force-sensitive, so taking the second one doesn't do anything more than give access to a new talent tree, since the character is already Force-sensitive.

Granted, could be explained a bit better perhaps, as I overheard one guy at GenCon erroneously express the belief that PCs could now reach Force Rating 4 (Force Rating 1 from taking Exile or Emergent, +1 for the Force Rating talent in the first spec, +1 for taking the other F/S spec, and a final +1 for that spec's Force Rating talent), having overlooked that both specs grant "Force Rating 1" and not "Force Rating +1" as part of buying the spec, and it's been stated by the designers that unless it's stated as cumulative (such as the Sixth Sense talent providing a +1 to ranged defense vs. some armors providing Defense 1), so the cap would indeed be Force Rating 3. He didn't seem pleased when I corrected him and a member of the RPG's design team backed me up on that.

On the second, it's probably a reference to the Enhance power, which has a Control Upgrade that lets you spend Light Side points to add Successes or Advantage to Brawl checks. Plus, "martial arts" is a fairly broad term, covering such forms of combat as Kung Fu, Boxing, Wrestling (particularly Greco-Roman and Freestyle) as well as different weapon-based forms, not all of which were developed in the Orient; European fencing could be construed as a 'martial art' since it's a disciplined form of combat that relies on more than just sticking the other guy with the pointy end (although that's still the core idea of most fencing styles).

Page 197: The Enhance power's Range upgrade states that a Force user can spend O to upgrade the power's range by a number of range bands equal to range upgrades purchased. However, there's only the one range upgrade available to buy. Is this an oversight or is this an example of forward compatibility, and a version of Enhance later will allow more range upgrades to be purchased?

It's probably an artifact of all the other Range Upgrades having similar verbiage, with Enhance being the only Force Power (to date) with a single Range Upgrade.
