Star Wars vs. Star Trek

By Sprolly G, in X-Wing

To be fair, if they put the Defiant to scale with some of these ships, it would be a blip on the stand. Now, that said, that is a pretty large difference in sizes. I don't know if it would be THAT much to turn me off from at least trying it.

I couldn't resist posting this picture:

While they say the game systems are not compatible, really it is just a matter of balancing the points and watching our for "broken" abilities. I'd expect the Star Trek game to have some crazy abilities due to the expectation that the game is about larger ships. I was watching five attack dices being rolled regularly and a handful of defensive dice. You'd need a tie-swarm indeed to get through that.

Heck, you could also combine Flames of War vs. Warhammer Space Marines if you want to play 1940 vs. year 40,000 battles. Same scale problem (though rules would be even more far afield)

On the table, though the whole thing loses the aesthetic, in my opinion. If it makes you happy, fly around and pew pew.

All this bile over it, though, is lame on both sides.

Amen. Happen to love both Star Wars and Star Trek. I also love a good red wine and Twinkies, but I've never soak a Twinkie in red wine and then eaten it.

A combination of things doesn't always make for a better experience.

Well said!

Stardestroyer.net makes a fairly convincing argument in terms of which fiction has superior military technology. Star Wars is the clear victor in most respects, and a lot of [on-screen] data would have to be ignored to claim otherwise. I enjoy both franchises, though.

Stardestroyer.net

Certainly no bias there. :P

No, yeah. He's pretty level.

If they put the Defiant in the game it would be as long as the current Enterprise mini, which should be as big as the Reliant mini. The Defiant is 120 meters in length.

Not gonna lie, this made me flinch.

Now everyone knows that Twinkies don't go with red wine. You use them to make a Twinkie Wiener sandwich.....

Wong is definitely biased, but objectively, you really can't argue against his data. The figures work every single time I try them, and you'd really] have to skew it heavily in favor of the Federation for them to even have a fighting chance.

You cannot make any factual comparison of different sci-fi genres because they are "fantasy". Too seriously say that you can is delusional. But if you really insist on a comparison, the only reasonable choice would have to be Star Trek. For the sole reason that the basics of a lot of their technology is based on science theory while others like Star Wars are completely the imagination of George Lucas (who could not write a good monologue if his life depended on it). That last part may be heresy here but it is sadly true. I give George his credit, he came up with a wonderful idea but he should have handed it over to some real writers.

I like all the genres mentioned in this thread, I don't see one as superior to another. They are just different flavors of the same thing.

I do love Star Trek more than Star Wars, but I have to admit that the components of X-wing are better than Attack Wing, Wizkids can do better miniatures, for example the Enterprise that comes with Expeditions is awesome, but for Attack Wing (and others like Fleet Captains and Tactics) they did a bad job.

X-wing:
Pro: Good Quality.

Attack wing:
Cons: Bad Quality.

Nagash is back again.

Well you have heard that the Undead have taken over the world yes ? They are every where, which explains all these necro threads.

This forum is so fluffy to include the flavor of the Warhammer End times.

What'll it be, fellas?

- How much for the phaser gun?
- For the phaser gun?

Sorry, Garfunkel.
We don't hock Trek here.

Well, then, Slim,
if you don't sell the Trek...

then why do you have
a phaser gun in the case?

We keep this one here to suss out
Trekkie bitche$ like yourself...

and tell them to get
the hell off of our land.

So get the hell off of our land.

Get the hell off of our land!
Get the hell out ofhere! Now!

Get out of here,
you Kirk-lovin' Spock-suckers!

Ok, I'm editing this post to clarify:

Star Wars: X-Wing Vs. Star Trek: Attack Wing

Both have similar systems, which WizKids apparently paid FFG for the rights to use (not what the thread is about). I want to hear from people who have any ideas of trying to play them against each other and especially from people who have actually tried to do it. I'd like to hear about your experience.

This is not supposed to be, "Would the Empire beat the Federation"...We know Star Trek loses...

Ok serious answer: there is no point in trying with x-wing. Now armada vs trek might be work since both deal with capital class ships rather than xwings small scale fighters (Tantiv IV excluded) Then there is balance issues. It would take a lot of work to match up the stats of the ships.

Also i wounder how well the scale would match.

And wizkids should do a better job on their models! X-wing is awesome, but in trek what you get for the same price is basically a gashapon toy!

Things to consider:

Trek fluff states that the enterprise' shields are impervious to lasers. A star destroyer has turbo lasers. This, asuming turbo in this case means rapid-fire, would mean that a Star destroyer has no hope of damaging starfleet ships.

Trek has (almost) no carriers or fighter squadrons, so i'd like to see how that would play out in the game. Can't we make it a threeway with battlestar galactica?

Trek has teleporters: teleport photon torpedo on enemy bridge, anyone? (srsly, why don't they do that on the show?)

Okay at first i was like "Highly illogical" or "i have a bad feeling about this"...

But then i realised we can have this:

species 8472 ships vs the death star!

Your ass hurt from sitting under that bridge?

While the sarcasm is strong in IG58 i have to agree with him. Just becuz some guy on a forum sez something doesn't make it gospel...

We must be getting hard up for things to discuss. I've noticed more than a few old threads resurfacing of late.
