Chapter VII: Combat

By FFG Andy Fischer, in Proofreading Changes

Welcome to the proofreading changes sub-forum for the Dark Heresy 2nd Edition Beta.

In this thread, you can list any proofreading changes you find in Chapter VII: Combat.

Slight typo in the crucial sentence on p 207.

Currently reads: "To determine the wound effect, the character takes the total damage dealt by a hit (damage minus defence value) and adds modifiers for each wounds he was suffering from prior to the attack."

"Wounds" in the last clause should be singular rather than plural.

Table 7-6

Entry 5 or lower: "these injuries from this attack" should be "the injuries from this attack"

Entry 10-11: "the is blinded for 1 round" should be "the target is blinded for 1 round"

Entry 12: "tries desperately to shields his eyes" should be "tries desperately to shield his eyes"

Entry 13: "burning and skin hair" should be "burning skin and hair"

Under Evade (pg 199-200)

"only one Evade reaction can be made in response to a single Attack"

So is this just saying that only one Evade reaction can be made per Attack? If so, why add the descriptor "single" to it? This makes it possibly imply that only one Evade reaction can be made per Round by a character. Is that the case? Or can a character potentially save all of his AP to get 4 Evades?

P216, 217, 218

The rending table results make several references effects as if the attack is melee based ("The slash", "The downward stroke", "The swing", e.t.c.). However, bolter weapons also generate rending crit results.

P210 -> Crit Result 13-14 & 15.

Suffers twice in the second sentence.

pg. 206 upper right

" Whenever a character is hit by an attack or effect, he has to determine which hit location on his body is struck by the blow. For attacks made in combat, the attacker compares the 1s digit of his attack roll to either the diagram presented here or Table 7-2: Hit Location (see page 202)."

I don't see any diagram on this page anywhere.

pg. 209 - The example:

Mentions using an iridescent staff as the weapon and later says "The sword does 1d10+5 Impact damage", so I'm assuming one of those should be changed sword or staff?

Could also add onto the end the result that would be added to the next time he is wounded (+5 for the wound and +10 for the critical, so +15 total next time correct?)

Page 200, the example for Evade:

"He has a Agility of 43 and has the Evade skill with 3 ranks, so gains a +10 to his Evade attempt. He rolls a 56, for a total of three degrees of success (one for succeeding the test, plus two more for rolling 10x2 points lower than her modified characteristic)."

I'm not sure how, with an agility of 43 + 10 for the evade, giving him a 53, a 56 is considered a success at all, much less with three degrees of success. Shouldn't this be a roll of 26, thus giving him the success, and 2 degrees?

Page 186 in the 2nd Edition V2 document lists difficulty modifiers.

The descriptor for a Size 3 target is given as "scrawny", but table 4-6 on p 107 lists size 3 as "Weedy"

p180: Knowdown: doesnt tell which defense value helps against the damage (only T ? T + Armour ?))

Also, it isnt clear, how Knock-Down can be combined with charge (and if the +10 are on top of charge +30 or instead)

p180: Knockdown: doesnt state if it can be dodged and/or parried

Dodge test modifiers need to be repeated in combat section if they are intended to be used in combat.

Seconded !

This goes for defending in cover especially, but also for dodging an attack that is known for 1 round (like full action aiming)
