a random idea that turned out fun!

By Nephtys2, in WFRP Gamemasters

just wanted to share that with you :P

i recently was empty when it came to new adventures for my players to play. so i decided to search the web for something new and started playing sme music.

suddenly i heard "hotel california" by the eagles and after listening to the lyrics a second time i came up with an awesome slaaneshi adventure that drags them into a dark chaos cult in an inn on the road between altdorf and ubersreik.

if anyone wants a complete plot-layout ill provide it, otherwise just listen to the song and get the idea yourself!!

i loved that....

how do you get your ideas when there are no more in your head?

cheers

neph

Very cool, now that I have the song in my head I can see the Slaaneshi angle. Heck, it sounds like a place he/she would have in their Chaos Realm.

Would love to hear more of your thought or plans for it. The sort of place that appears for Hexenacht jfrust when you were dispairing of finding a safe inn for the night?

For ideas, I plagiarize from earlier edition adventures or books I've read (e.g., my Favour for Fostenklauster adventure, I have some notes from Hangman's Daughter books), I leaf through fluff things like the army books for ideas etc. And I rely on people who post great thought like, oh, gee, this one right above!

well, my idea:

a little while before the action i will have the PCs at a festivity in some city. there they will listen to songs, some of them they know, like chants to sigmar or morr, a song about a bordello and stuff. and also some new songs, one of which will the called "the hotel reikland"

it will be almost like hotel california, just without the last part, but rewritten in a way that the players themselves cant quite make the connection to the song yet. it should not contain the word chaos, so it might just be the rambling of an intoxicated guy.

later, while they are travelling along the road, the night approaches. growing tired, they will see a glowing light on the horizon. it may even give them a little chill, but after a check they will be thinking "this oculd be heaven or this could be hell"

as they come closer they will taste a sweet smell, assembling a drink. that will be the equivalent to "pink champaign on ice". i made it white wine on ice, which will come in later on.

upon approaching the inn, they will read the sign "the reikland". maybe thatll give em a clue to where they landed, but make it long enough ago so they cant quite put their finger on it.

as they come to the doors a young girl will be sitting on a bench infornt. she lights up a candle and shows them the way.

as the group enters the inn i roll a hidden WP check for the PC with the lowes willpower and he'll hear voices in his head

"welcome to the hotel reikland, such a lovely place, such a lovely face"

when they sit down to have a drink one of the PC orders smething. something that rhymes with a number, as you will need the line "we haven't had that spirit here since 1969". in my case it was beer, as in german it rhymes with 2504 and thats a year that comes close ;)

of course, they will also be some drunk men dancing strangely, after asking why they would behave so strange the girl tells them "some dance to remember, some dance to forget".

later they will be offered the pink white wine on ice. if any drink it they will start sleepwalking later on, being drawn to the cult fiest that will be held in the msaters chambers.

if not, 2 PCs will also hear the voices in the night, being drawn to the ground floor where they will witness the beginning of the cult fiest. if the investigate furhter they will fin the master's chambers where they have the beast, any slaanesh deamon you deem appropriate. they stab it with their steely knifes but the just cant kill the beast....

from that ill let it play out. lets see what my players make of it! im thinking of awarding a bonus, not sure which yet, if they find out it is actually hotel california! :P

Sounds cool, but I suggest throwing in a few random elements and a couple of twists in the plot just to make sure that the players won't see through it and thus anticipate future events. Seeing that the song is so well known, there is a big risk that they will recognise your source of inspiration. If so, I suggest that you find a way to use this knowledge against them.

in my case i dont really have to since we are playing the game in german and i translated the lyrics freely and made them rhyme again. that makes it harder to actually get to the source

of course thats just the overall outline, the rest is made up while playing!
