handling mazes and labyrinths

By Nephtys2, in WFRP Gamemasters

hey all!

I cant help myself, i MUST include a maze or labyrinth in one of my scenarios at some point….but i can't come up with a decent
way to handle it the right way.

giving them a map of it and having them "draw" their way´through it is just totall off

having them have to fighure out a way by just wlking in and taking turns at any other corner until they find the center seems alot like busywork…

has anyone ever handled a maze? i'm totally lost here ;)

thx in advance

neph

Ah, mazes in RPG's:

Here's the best rule:

* No maps. Players make it through by identifying clues and making successful skill checks..not by the rule of lefts. Trying to track on a maps sucks as well for the GM.

* Throw in a couple of encounters and landmarks

* For research, go to a local amusement park and try out their mazes.

* Find a purpose for your maze

best of luck…

p.s. Why on earth would Morr create a maze?

great help, thx!

that sounds reasonable.

gonna go for the landmarks and checks, that will make it hard for them, and i dont have to go insane trying to draw a maze!

the maze is actually for a giant tzeentch quest, it is the way to his domain in the chaos realms. i have that huge campaign running for more than a year now in which the PCs evolved in such a way that they needed the most giant quest ever so thats it now, they will confront chaos itself

and a maze is mandatory for tzeentch.

i posted the plotoutline for that ages ago i think, i might update it to as far as we have come now, it has become an awesome story which will eventually revolutionize the old world….but not the way the PCs think hehe
**** im evil, might wanna work on that….but then again…NO! ;)

as for morr: well, dead people have nothing to do all day, lets let them have some fun in morrs maze…
maybe he's also just bored like f**k and thought it was gonna be fun to have people ask themselves why he would build one of these lol

A Morr maze is an underground cementery. Have you ever gone to a cementery where there are niches? imagine that for an entire town, having only that kind of grave. It's creepy as hell, and you could easily get lost (which is why it's a maze). If you add necromancers to lurk around a Morr's maze, you've got undead walking there.

;)

In warhammer I just abstract finding way through maze into a progress track of events, mishaps and boon, bane, chaos star effects etc.

At the end there's an example in "table aid" form for the "tunnels in the hill of bones".

This also makes it character INT not player INT.

Now some tables, old school D&D, like "player puzzles" in which case an actual maze is more appropriate.

Ah, that makes sense now :)
