I was wondering if anyone has worked out rules for auto-seances like were seen in the Eisenhorn novels? I think it would be a valuable investigative ability.

It's an ability from Eisenhorn.

Essentially, it requires an object that was in an area at the time that's being investigated for clues. It allows for a powerful psyker to draw out the resonance of key events that happened in the area and project them into the room/warded area. Basically, it allows those involved to view what happened in an area a short time ago, provided a focal object is present although the Eldar showed the ability to improve on this immensely.

The main things involved is obtaining something that has a strong resonance with what you're trying to investigate.

That would require probably some combination of telepath and divination powers.

I believe divination has abilities similar to this, and a telepath could probably show people what he was seeing.

But I dont think there is a specific power that does that by itself.

Considering how powerful this ability would be, I'd rather leave it for later ranks...

yeah, the auto seanse is what I thought of when I was reading through the divination ability 'psycometry'. though I guess that's a little more limited. up the PT or just make the effect an overbleed option, and maybe require knowledge of what you're looking for. After all, a library isn't going to help you if you dont know what book you want. (well ok it might, if all you want is a good read, but supose you're looking for a particular quote without knowing what it's quoted from. Much easier to find it if you know that it's from the book 'war and piece')

Just a quick draft of what you could do for the power:

Auto Séance
Threshold: 27
Prerequisites: Psychometry, Psy Rating 5, Discipline Focus (Divination), WP 45, Psychic Supremacy (Divination)
Sustained: Yes
Range: 3 x WPBm
A rare ability, possessed by but a few Psykers, an Auto Séance allows the user to look into the recent past of an object and project these events for all to see.
The user must possess an object of significance to the event being examined (a knife that was used to commit a murder, a ring used to propose to a lover, etc). If the power is successfully manifested, the user and anyone within the area (usually warded to prevent the escape of Warp energy).
The vision is centred upon the object in question and the radius is the distance from the object, not the Psyker.

Bear in mind that I only wrote this in about 5 minutes, so it's likely to need some modifications. Also, I realise that the prerequisites are quite harsh, but given that the only demonstrations of this ability in the Eisenhorn Omnibus were done by Eisenhorn with the help of at least one Astropath or an Eldar Farseer on his/her own, I think that they're quite justified.
