WFRP3 scenario order

By khaali, in WFRP Gamemasters

Hi,

I have several of the "small" published scenarios : an eye for an eye (main book), Winds of change (Winds of magic), Horror at Hugenhal (Signs of Faith), Mirror of Desire (Lure of Power), the witch's song , and " A Day Late and A Shilling Short" .

I may or may not play all of them with the same PC group, I would appreciate some advice from people who have played them:

- which ones can easily be be played in succession?

- Are there useful careers / background pieces for players when creating their character in order to have better involvement in the scenariis? For exemple, I intend to ask one to create a student at the celestial college of Altdorf (in anticipation of Winds of change ).

Thanks!

Eye for an eye, the gathering storm, and edge of night are related (being in the Ubersreik area). The rest are not and can be played in any order. Some scenarios have suggestions on playing them sequenced with other scenarios.

I've started my 'Ubersreik campaign' mid January 2013 and wondered myself how to best order the published 3ed material.

My PC's recently finished an Eye for an Eye. They unmasked the cultists. Piersson got away but had to abandon everything. One of the PC's, Periconius, is a young apothecary, newly arrived in Ubersreik and eager for an introduction with the town's aptohecary/alchemist community. Ashaffenberg, impressed with the PC's after Grunewald, instructs Vern Hendrick to arrange a meeting with Johann Brass, the current master of the Metalworker's Guild.

Johann is willing to support a new apothecary shoppe in town… but is currently preoccupied with the dissappearance of his nephew and guildmember, Florian Wechsler. Florian vanished in Stromdorf two weeks ago… -here I hope the PC's start The Lesser Evil (TGS, part 1). Florian is also the target of a Ostlander bountyhunter -a new PC, whom the other PC's will meet en route to Stromdorf. Very curious how the conflicting/analogue PC motives will play out…

I am very reluctant to run TGS part 2 -A Time to Mourn, though some of the themes and NPC's are top quality (burgomeister Adler's affaire, etc.) I do hesitate to have silly zombies and skelleton's overrun a Reikland town (especially this early in a campaign). Somehow it would conflict with my gritty low fantasy reading of the WFRP world.

At the time I am still uncertain what to do with the rest of TGS. I might skip all parts 2-4.

Gradually the PC's are bound (?) to make a reputation for themselves as investigators. From this point on linking the published scenario's seems quiet easy. I do not think that the order of the scenario's do matter that much.

After The Lesser Evil my plans are still vague:

Perhaps Aschaffenberg asks the PC's to intervene in to the embarassing affair of his nephew Maximillian -upon which The Mirror of Desire starts. Uncertain at the moment how to integrate Horror of Hugeldal. Somehow I think of the Edge of Night as an apotheosis for the Ubersreik Campaign. The Art if Waaagh seems like a good epilogue.

Horror of Hugeldal plays very much into the whole 'Von Bruners are always getting corrupted by chaos' angle, since the von Jungfreud woman is a Von Bruner by birth.

The order we played the adventures in was:

A Day Late, A Shilling Short

Eye for an Eye

The Edge of Night

The Horror of Hugeldal

The Harrower of Thanes

The Mirror of Desire

We'll go on to play TEW with new characters after that, but if we hadn't then The Art of Waaagh would be next. The others don't fit so neatly into a story around Ubersreik, at least that was my impression.

I started out gathering the PCs in Ubersreik and then had them run through an eye for an eye.. After unmasking the cultists and slaughtering them (literally) I had the Wargor beastman lure them into a glade .. "Accidentally" killed 2 of 3 PCs and the last one turned mad from the horrors.. Using Vern Hendrick as the new "bad guy" I had him stealing all the chaos stuff and run off.. Sven Bleuler (one of the guards) dedicated his life to sigmar and are now tracking Vern Hendrick through the empire in search of vengeance.. I had the new PCs stumble upon him telling the tale in an Inn while on the route to Eilhart where they met Father Anders (The Witches Song).. Will have to wait and see how it turns out..
