The late Gary Gygax wrote an adventure called "Necropolis" for his Dangerous Journey's system that, IMO, is everything a RPG campaign shoul be. There is a D&D version, and I won't speculate as to which came first, but the Dangerous Journeys version is the best written and more closely follows a WHFRP-like system (skill based versus class based).
I think a conversion to WHFRP3 would be awesome, but even an "inspired" version would be cool.
The Mythus (dangerous journeys) setting is an alternate, fantastic earth setting. Necropolis takes place in the mythical "Egypt" in the "Valley of Kings". The main protagonist is "Rahotep" a lich of great power. The adventure itself consists of getting to egypt and to the valley of kings, finding the "lost tomb" of Rahotep, breaking into th tomb and overcoming the deadly traps (think Acerak and the Tomb of Horrors), finding nine evil artifacts that contain Rahoteps spirit, and Finally defeating Rahotep. Along the way, evil gods intervene, desert nomadic cultists thwart, and the very desert hinders the PCs attempts.
The Old World and WHFRP seem a great system for this adventure. Travelling to Araby, and to the "valley of kings" could be part 1 (rank 3), Investigating the Valley and environs could be part 2 (rank 4), and navigating Rahotep's tomb and defeating the sorcerous Liche Rahotep could be part 3 (rank 5). I think the nature of travelling out of the empire into such a hostile environment, its costs, and the epic danger of a powerful liche call for it to be an adventure for the higher ranks, although a full 5 rank epic campaign would be cool too.
Has anyone else read this adventure? Is there any desire for adventures outside the empire? I am too new to the system to attempt a conversion or a full campaig of this magnitude, but I would love to be a part of a discussion on the broader outlines.
