Our new house rule: You can use ANY action card you want…by adding additional purple dice (including spells)

By Emirikol, in WFRP House Rules

Yes! You can use an action card you don’t have! For example (non-spells): double strike, Bribery, Flirt, Grapple, Disarm. Add an extra purple difficulty to the card (or add 2 if epic). If you can cast spells and want to use a spell that you don’t have, just add 1 purple for each rank of the spell while you unwind the fabric of the universe in your attempt.

== Anybody see any issues arising with this? Is it too easy to use them or is this about right?

We used it today so that the halfling ratcatcher can use "Fetch!" without having the action card. Well the action failed because of a sword on the purple die. So we know that it would have worked if he had trained/aquired the card before.

Actually I like this, as the guys from recless dice say that most of the social cards from lure of power simply look like they are common actions and there is no reason to buy the cards. Now there is a reason. Everybody can try "formal diplomacy" for example, but only if you have put an advancement into it you will be spared one purple die.

I suggest also giving standing to those having the Action card by not allowing those without them to get all the "best results" with multiple successes etc. Perhaps require "one more" success to trigger anything after first line and never permit comet outcomes or similar.

For example, I allow the (forget name) shoot into melee ranged action to be used without the card BUT you just get the basic "no risk of hitting friend" and "the misfortune dice modifier +1 extra" and none of the "better successes, comets, boons" goodies. Otherwise a chaos star means hit an ally.

So in principle, sure anyone can fake out, fight with two swords etc. at some greater difficulty if it's not their focus but only those who focus get the "ooh ah" best outcomes.

More generally, there are cards that are really "thinks anyone can try" like Grapple and then there are cards that really are "you know that's a thing you have to learn and train for", like a specific spell.

Thanks for the feedback.
