Hi
Has anyone converted any of the old classics? I would love to dust of some of my old warhammer adv. and run them with the 3rd ed rules.
It would be fun to run the old EW campaign before the new one is out from FFG

I've run the following 2e scenarios using 3 e rules with zero conversion difficulty:
rough night at the two feathers
pig witch and her lover
unfinished symphony
its a god eat dog world
spires of altdorf
worse than the disease
(probably more that have escaped me)
I'm currently prepping THE DYING OF THE LIGHT. That one should be easy. The "creatures" in there can easily be statted up using Beastmen.
Conversion of skills is pretty danged obvious.
Conversion of monsters is the same (Gm needs to use his brain during play).

I'm currently running the Enemy Within campaign. So far we're at the beginning of the Death on the Reik adventure. I convert the adventure more or less on the fly. The story is there and the 3ed rules are easy enough to use that little or no time needs to be devoted to actual converting. Take a while getting comfortable in the 3ed system, play an adventure or two that are created for 3ed to get you and your players used to the system. Then converting will come to you, easy as pie. ![]()
Thanks for your advices. Think I will playtest a little bit before running the EW campaign.
But if there are anyone who had done the work - I (and others I am sure) would be grateful if you would share the work.
You can pm me for my version of Rough Night at 3 Feathers if you want.
It was my first conversion. One thing I've found is that "straight conversion" misses opportunities for some 3isms such as a new location card, tracks etc.
Stat conversion doesn't also seem so straightforward, at least not when it comes to WS and BS training - giving anyone with a 40+ WS certainly isn't right if you go by official 3rd edition NPCs and monsters.

The problem with conversion of NPCs is mainly due to two things:
- ACE budgets in 3ed. A lot of the oomph in nasty monsters lie in large ACE budgets instead of in talents and ability scores and skill training. Some creatures still have training though. It's hard to find a direct correlation with any stat in 1/2e for ACE.
- WS/BS being skills instead of abilities. S and Ag affects both the chance to hit and the damage. A high WS low S character in earler edition could be built as a lowish S character but with training in WS and extra expertise dice. A low WS/high S 2ed monster is quite hard to make in 3e, best solution is probably to give it no training, low stance dice and no expertise dice.
I've already posted some of my experiences with running Shadows over Bögenhafen (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=149&efcid=3&efidt=669950), but I don't have any written notes to share (the ones I have are in half english half swedish, so perhaps not that useful). I suggest trying to use the 3ed creature cards for most NPCs, that has worked fine for me.
I use the following system for quick conversions. The monster conversion does its job for most encounters. For the more important encounters I put a bit of effort into action cards before the game and maybe a few adjustments.
Currency:
20 Gold → 1 Gold
1 Silver → 1 Silver
1 Brass → 1 Brass
Skill Checks:
Very Easy (30) → Simple (0d)
Easy (20) → Easy (1d)
Routine (10) → Average (2d) + Fortune Dice
Average (0) → Average (2d)
Challenging (-10) → Average (2d) + Misfortune Dice
Hard (-20) → Hard (3d)
Very Hard (-30) → Daunting (4d)
Monster Profiles:
Stats: Use full 10th
Wounds: Same
Soak: Body Armor
Defense: Number of Dodge, Parry or Block skills
Aggression: Highest 10th of WS/BS
Cunning: Highest 10th of Int/Fel
Expertise : Attacks
Thanks again for more great response.
