A party of Dwarfs

By master yoda, in WFRP Gamemasters

My party is thinkin g about an all dwarf group. which sounds like great fun, but I was hoping to run a Thousand Thrones or Paths of the Damned.

Can these work? I believe Paths would but unsure about Thrones.

We have an all dwarf group in the Old Worlde League but they are off doing the dwarven third edition scenarios. It can work very well if you design scenarios around them and especially of you create the scenarios yourself. I reckon a dwarf group can do paths of the damned but I'd have at least one of them in the group really into Sigmar to make the religious sections more worthwhile.

Don't know enough about thousand thrones to comment on it unfortunately.

Yes the 3rd Edition Adventures would be my back up plan, but was hoping Gm's that have ran either or both could tell me if an all dwarf party can work. I have only read the synopsis in the front and glanced through the first few chapters.

Dwarf's are partial to Sigmar because of the past, correct? So they would lend a hand in stopping a plot against the Cult of Sigmar.

Thank you, Fenderstat about the info on Paths of the Damned.

The reason why I said really into Sigmar (or Ulric for that matter) is I played the middenheim adventure as a myrmidia man and I didn't give two ***** about the fates of anyone in that scenario and did not feel any empathy for anyone. Basically I had a hard time caring because it's not my god, not my city and really not my problem and I was only there because I wanted to play warhammer, not because my character wanted to help the church. The only motivation my character had to do the adventure was that he was ordered to by his superiors. The other two adventures are better than the first but having at least one pious guy affilitated with the church will work really well. Having a dwarf not sympathtic but devoted to Sigmar should be the way to go in that, as they're most likely the ones who will wish to continue the quest in the name of holy good. Same goes for Ulric if your dwarf in inclined that way.

And boy is that group fun, I can't recommend an all dwarf party enough, from both a mechnical perspective (grudges grudges grudges!) as well as the obvious roleplaying perspective. However what makes playing a dwarf party fun is having dwarf-like things to interact with; if the adventure you're running through clearly hasn't been designed with a dwarf party in mind (and I'm guessing from Fenderstat's comments it might even be more human-centric?), then the fun of being in such a party is diminished.

Of course (and my lore-knowledge might be lacking here), there may be historical reasons why a group of dwarfs might feel compelled to help the Sigmarites, as you have already said. A slayer might have dishonoured himself in a way that is somehow related to the church; a Grudge Keeper might know of a grudge that is somehow connected with the church, etc. If there is something like that in your adventure, giving your dwarfs a personal connection might help make it feel more dwarven in nature.

Just saying!

As the GM for this group I can only say go for it. It is immensely fun to have an all dwarf group. However, I probably wouldn't run TTT as it focuses on Empire related business. We just finished Journey to Blackfire Pass and that was a lot of fun, however since Harrower of Thanes is really for a more experienced group we're gonna be doing som 1st edition content I think or perhaps some homebrew if I have the time (or a combination of the two).

I have reopened my full conversion of the Doomstones Nr. 1 Adventure and try to finish it with some final stats. Maybe then I will post it.

Also I made a flowchart to make a sandbox out of the Yetzin Valley concerning the 5 Doomstone Adventures, but they are realy less interaction more dungeonslaying adventures. I have run recently a dwarf onyl group and using adventures from the 3rd Edition is not a problem.

Just give your dwarfs the right motivation. Our runesmith was on a mission from his master to gather rare ingredients, our valaya pristess was on her way back on her post at a dwarven outpost. Most dwarven careers can have a wandering motivation built in. Having a Grudgekeeper in your group is gold, rule and funwise. Writing up a grudge against almost everyone was more like a jounrey log.

"….may a grudge be noted against the men of the Three Feathers Inn for charging unreasonalbe high prices for food and accomodation."

Or if you have a group of dwarfs finding fame and fortune, almost all adventures will work, eye for an eye, gathering storm, etc. If you want some political powerstruggles in Übersreik, there is the dwarven guildmaster in the city with the contact to Karak Azgaraz and some political weight in the city. The dwarf group could be his party to interact with the humans.

A dwarf campaign mean that dawrfs don't have to allways interact with dwarfs, but let them lose on the imperial humans. Allways rumbling and swearing. But as I have said, give them motivation to roam the realm of man.

Nice post Glorian, I do believe they've made Ubersreik more Dwarf populated precisely due to this fact. Dwarves actually have some political interest in Ubersreik and the area around.

Unfortunately I think an all dwarf party in Thousand Thrones would be a bit of a waste of time, as you would lose quite a bit of the fun by not having Imperial humies in it. Paths of the Damned would be a better idea.
